Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a fantastic game, but what would it be like as a television series in the style of Dwarf Studios' 2019 stop-motion animation Rilakkuma and Kaoru?
A fan-made project directed by Gabriel Salas explores this idea, and the results are absolutely stunning, even if it does only last for 41 seconds. Gabriel shares some more information in the teaser trailer's description:
This fan made project stems from my appreciation of Rilakkuma & Kaoru TV series and the Animal Crossing games. After playing New Horizons for a few days, I wondered how merging both universes would look like & thought it’d be fun to expand on Isabelle’s character a bit. This is what I imagine a TV show or short film would look like in this style.
While there has never been anything official like this, there was an animated Animal Crossing movie released back in 2006 titled, Dōbutsu no Mori. It's about a girl who moves into a village filled with talking animals - it's just like the games.

This animation is perfect. Imagine all the [censored] that could be made in this style...
joke, joke, It's a JOKE, I'M JOKING
Cute but I think Nintendo might not appreciate this. Even with the extensive disclaimer. Granted it is in character so they may let it slide.
That style is so awesome! I love how stiff and fluid it manages to feel simultaneously...fantastic stuff.
@Ryu_Niiyama Well Starter Squad is another fan series that is a dark comedy twist on the Pokémon games, and Nintendo and the Pokémon Company let it slide (to be fair, Pokémon Company and Nintendo had different standards on copyright), so this series might be fine.
Totally not inspired by Rilakkuma and Kaoru in any way
I think inspiration is nice, but why not push it a bit more? No? ...okay
@HotGoomba___Rebrand I’m sure there are a lot of factors involved to provoke a c&d. I was merely speculating.
@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, but let's just hope that Nintendo doesn't pull a Nintendo.
The cute fluffyness of the stop motion would TOTALLY fit into an animal crossing movie or show. Love it!
@HotGoomba___Rebrand I wouldn’t call it a “Nintendo” as they have a right to protect their IP. I know it’s popular to demonize companies that do so (barring patent trolls) but I see nothing wrong with that. That being said usually if no one gets hurt, makes money, steals code/game scenes or tarnishes the rep of their products they don’t care.
Nintendo should invest in an ACNH show
I would be so happy.
I'm not even a big Animal Crossing fan and I love it! In the next game they should give the option to have everything in this style.
Coffee? Nah, man, she always has a glass of scotch on the rocks next to her during announcements.
I'm down for an AC movie or show in this style. Fits it perfectly
I now have a strong urge to become a furry.
@GrandScribe This is how I feel about Animal Crossing. I love the cheerful aesthetic and the colorful cast of characters... But I don't love the games themselves. I have New Leaf, but I get bored so quickly that I never get anything done. And I usually go so long between play sessions that my town is always covered in weeds and the animals are all mad at me for not being around.
Oh, this is super cute! This would make a great TV show ^^
this needs to be done! If only Nintendo was more open to this fan made ideas, like Sega.
This short video is so well made. I can only imagine a TV series. Yes, this old man would watch it!
In the next episode a Nintendo swat team sweeps the town and arrests all the villagers for copyright infringement.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand
WELP rubs hands together let's get to work boys
@Kienda in the third Tom Nook’s lawyers are summoned, they’re mafia lawyers.
@TheFox the whole be there or it all starts falling apart always bothered me its part of why the games are just kinda meh to me.
Really wonderful animation! Would love a series like this
Really cute style and I would love to see some longer episodes of this, but only if its properly voice acted - the gibberish in the game drives me insane and I have to play it muted.
im still suprised the Mario movie made by Ilumination is the only endevour so far by Nintendo in movies/TV series, i expected Nintendo anouncing a TV series or movie for the Animal Crossing franchise and it others franchises, given the sucess of Animal Crossing New Horizons so far, and this video show amazing a movie or TV series for Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild could be.

WOW!!!! That’s incredible
Beautiful and tonally perfect work. This should be a regular short show or way to announce new upcoming events - maybe sign these people up Nintendo!
Totes adorb? This is not 2011, please speak like a normal person.
I wonder if nintendo are going to come after whoever made this.
@DannyBoi Sadly we know they will. Nintendo is far too over protective when it doesn't need to be.
