Sega has revealed that Nintendo Switch exclusive Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix is launching in the west next month. You'll be able to get your hands on it from 15th May.
The game, which has been available in Japan for some time now, brings the series' rhythm action gameplay to Switch for the first time. It includes more than 100 songs that have been reinvigorated with anime-style graphics, as well as a new selection of songs never-before-seen in the Project DIVA series.
Today brings more good news, as you can now go ahead and try the game for yourself via a free demo available on the Switch eShop. You'll notice that you can already pre-purchase the game, and that there are two versions to choose from:
Digital pre-orders are available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop for both a base version ($39.39 - pronounced 'Miku Miku' in Japanese) and 'Mega Pack' ($59.99). The 'Mega Pack' comes with 6 DLC song packs, each containing 6 songs, for a total of 36 additional songs!
After the game launches, the 6 DLC packs in the 'Mega Pack' will also be available individually ($6.99 each) or in a bundle containing all 6 packs ($29.99). All pre-orders come with a 4-song 'Theme Song DLC Pack' containing playable versions of theme songs from previous Project DIVA titles. For anyone who misses out on pre-ordering, the 'Theme Song DLC Pack' will be available free for all players beginning on 6/12.
Excited for this one? Will you be checking it out as soon as it launches next month? Let us know with a comment below.

Is this coming out physically too?
It won't replace Groove Coaster as my main Switch rhythm game but I'll probably pick it up and play here and there for a while.
Played the Japanese version for over 100 hours, it's great. The DLC keeps me coming back every month as they add more classics
If you have Future Tone on PS4 I wouldn't bother (only 10 news songs, tons of others are missing), but for everyone else I'd recommend it!
I've been playing the japanese version since launch and loved it.
It has 6 DLC packs and 5 are already out in Japan.So i suggest checking the songs included on websites that gave the news about them,before buying the season pass for the western version.Aside from the songs there's also a paid unlock to all costumes,because its not like people will play the game and unlock them with in-game currency....
Well I guess the demo gives me a reason to care about Miku for once
Nice, I really don’t get the Vocaloid stuff but the games are great fun. I spent loads of time on the 3DS one!
Glad to see the wait for western release wasn't all that long. I was going to get Mirai DX before this one but haven't gotten around to it.
So if I own prior games will there be a lot of song overlap? I own the 2 project diva games on the vita, Project diva X on the ps4, and project mirai DX on 3DS.
What does this offer that's different?
Wasn’t future tone supposed to get a western physical release in the west on switch including all of its dlc?
Eh, maybe...I like music/rhythm games but I think I just like the more unique and simple gameplay stuff. Like Rhythm Heaven or Thumper, also not really into songs being an actual theme, yes I know I'm weird. lol
Very fair price compared to japan, the season pass only is around 40 euro over there and the base game is 60.
I have the physical japanese LE version but didn't get the season pass yet, I do think if I should get it now because that would be 45 euro for me for a JP eshop card while this game is full version for 60.
I don't mind if it is japanese or not because it's easy enough to play without knowing japanese, but Sega made a big mistake here on 2 points.
@sonicmeerkat Only 10 of the 101 base songs are new, a lot you will recognise from F, F2nd and Mirai (there's a DLC song from X as well).
I played all of those games too and still enjoyed them in this game, the animation in the background is similar but the notes are different, the extra mode and costumes are a nice bonus
@darkswabber I thought the English version was just getting the DX content as DLC? I don't remember them saying that we would get the physical copy...
But I'm also sure they added extra DLC costumes to the DX version, which defeated the purpose of a complete version.
Lost me at digital only. Will wait for a possible miracle LRG or something similar.
If anything, I'll just import it later.
yeah no the only way to play this is via a controller, the joy cons will suck and my up on the left one is broken, it takes 4 seconds to make it think it is pushed the whole way up.
I have the Japanese version. It's not bad, but there are better rhythm games on Switch IMO such as Taiko no Tatsujin. Sega also got a bit stingy with the song selection considering it's basically a future tone port.
@Kimyonaakuma Hmm maybe when it's on a deep discount I'll give it a try, thanks.
"beginning on 6/12"
Do we assume that all NintendoLife readers come from the United States that write the dates the opposite way from the rest of the world?
Huuuuuge Project Diva fan here. I will try the demo asap!
@Drac_Mazoku
Sorry for the ignorance, but what is Groove Coaster?
I do really enjoy Hatsune Miku games, but not sure that this is worth me paying full price for as I've already played most of the songs on Future Tone. Going to give the demo a try though and see what it's like.
@Drac_Mazoku
I'll check it out! Thanks! So weird that I've never heard of it, I love rhythm games.
@Cosats it’s a direct press release. It’s generally bad form to change press release when you are suppose to be direct quoting.
Awwww yeah.
Demo is great, can’t wait for the full game.
Gutted this isnt physical, hopefully the Japanese one gets an English patch so I can get it unless SEGA do ring it out physically but I won’t hold my breath
@wolvesboy It's not physical because of the state of the world right now. It is a lot easier to just release the game digitally and not delay the game because they cannot create physical carts.
There is at least one AAA game that was delayed until further notice because they could not make the physical copy of the game due to the pandemic.
@Cosats
I agree that using that format is a little weird on this site. That date format the US uses is an older British date format. If you happen across real old tombstones(prior 1920) you will see a lot of dates in mm/dd/yyyy.
I thought this was going to get a physical release. I'm kind of bummed about that. Too many games are skipping physical these days.
@Steven_the_2nd
Was there any indication that it would ever get a physical release in the west? Future Tone was digital-only on PS4...
Oh! Yay Yay Yaayyyyyyy!!
Only a detail, digital game only?, well, but, ok, pre-ordened right now!!!! ^.^
@Incarna Even though DoReMiFa Rondo is not included, there are other 40mP songs, like Karakuri Pierrot, Time Machine, Mousou Sketch, Torinokocity, and Kyoudai Shoujou.
@Drac_Mazoku I'm pretty sure they're going to release it physically in the west after the major part of the pandemic is over.
Looks cute and I might give the demo a whirl.
Unfortunately for Sega, I've discovered the wonders of Yakuza and, for now, nothing else from them shall do.
(Except a Sonic Adventure port, of course.)
The only thing I know about this series is that there is enormous amounts of fan art, most of it quite good, and much of it NSFW. lol
@Cosats the article itself uses the european format, but it is quoting the press release which is geared towards NA readers. So no to your question but yes to the quote. Afterall it is bad journalism to modify the press release.
Only digital release? Well...minus 1 game, that I gonna buy in this year.
