Remember Gravilogic's stylish "Switchblade" rail covers/kickstand we shared way back in October 2018? The Switch accessory started out life as a Kickstarter campaign and was fully funded by the end of its first day.
According to an update on the Kickstarter page, the company is now working on a highly requested aluminum matte black set. Here's the full rundown:
We would like to thank you for your continued support in making our project, Switchblades for the Nintendo Switch, a success. Numerous customers have asked about Switchblades in all black to match the natural color and style of the Switch. We have developed a solution to make this a reality. We call this version of the Switchblade, Black Bird. They are aluminum switchblades powdered coated in matte black to give it a durable and tactile finish.
To help with funding, Gravilogic is running a Kickstarter-like campaign on its own website called Project Black Bird. Backers pledge for the product (priced at $35.00 USD), and if 1,050 orders are reached, it will go into development. The campaign runs from now until 8th May. If the goal is reached, all of the pledges will then be processed, and delivery is tentatively scheduled for October this year.
Would you back these matte black version of the Switchblades? Tell us below.

Looks pretty but adds no functionality. The stands look pretty flimsy.
Still can’t charge whilst using so....worthless.
Don't ever charge whilst using.
Just think about it.
Couldn't I just use a tin of beans and some blu-tack to achieve the same result?
Stil looks flimsy
Why are all these "stands"so damn flimsy ?
How about a charge and play dock ?
I'm sure they are around.
I use Wii U gamepad stand to hold my Nintendo Switch. 😉
I'll stick with my Hori stand, thx.
@Lordplops : It would look better too.
amazon has stands made from their basic line that work great and allow you to charge while using....this is literally pointless...they look flimsy and they block the rails for the joycon meaning if you wanna go handheld ya got to take em off and hope the dog dont chew on em.
can i just add this looks like something a 12 year old 3d printed!!!
Not going to lie, "switchblades" should have been what the joy-cons were named. Nintendo wasn't edgey enough.
I could see myself buy these.
Much better stand than what's there, and the rails are protected, if I were to bring it around without the joycons.
I have an adjustable tablet stand that I bought for $10 or so that'll work way better than this.
@Lord my point exactly 😟
@RogerFederer this is actually quite true.
Lithium batteries are not meant to be used and charged at the same time. Shortens their life down considerably. I've noticed the start of charging issues with my Switch, like it taking Farr to long to get to 100%.
But unfortunately you can't play docked without doing just that.
This is also why phones need to be replaced every 2 years. Because back when you can change the battery over, phones lasted for 5+ years. I still have my LG G5 in working condition as my gaming phone.
Like lord said, It looks fine until you want to charge while playing.
Neat idea, but does seem more complicated than necessary without enough functionality to be worthwhile.
Still can't believe Nintendo didn't at least put a kick-stand on each side... Hopefully the Pro model will have a larger screen (less bezel) and proper kick-stands.
I could print something similar in my 3D printer for only the price of what little filament would be used, certainly far less tahn $35.
I would never do that though because I see no value here at all. I have a nice little dock I can put my Switch in for a nice slight angle for tabletop play. The added benefit I get is that it also has a port in the back so I can charge my Switch while playing it in such a position if I desire, very much like the charging dock the Wii U GamePad had. Oh and I'm pretty sure this dock only cost like $10
The original kickstand is good enough for me, I never understood what the big complains is all about.
@Razer
My original Switch kept the same battery life for over three and a half years, so I don't think its that big of a problem, Nintendo obviously designed it very well in that point. Anyway, Switch battery is fairly easy to replace by yourself. Besides the battery being glued, you can take apart the Switch with only screws, so you don't have to ruin or modify anything to change the battery.
@KitsuneNight This one is my favorite one since I can still plug USB's into it.

Looks nice, has adjustable viewing angles, is better than Nintendo’s stand, and would be more portable than most other stands (if you are traveling).
I usually construct my stands with LEGO bricks, however, I am interested in this (but probably not at the asking price).
@gauthieryannick the original kickstand holds the switch just fine. Where is the added value in these things?
Seems... utterly pointless.
@Razer I dont buy that for a second. Sounds like a very neat excuse from manufacturers to me.
I do like the look of these, very clean.
@Chunkboi79 Yeah, but can I kill people with it?
That looks so cool. I would totally buy that.
Look ok but if one can't charge they Joy-Con what's the point of getting this anyway.
@gauthieryannick
@Razer
Basically, what Razer said.
Laptop batteries. Telephone batteries. You name it.
And just common sense, really :
why would you want to use (=empty the battery power) and charge it at the same time? Do you hit the brakes and the gas concurrently whilst driving?
Tu dois conduire bien mal, mec.
@RogerFederer How is it any different to docked use? (honest question)
@TryToBeHopeful
The battery should not be in use when docked. The power should come from the AC only.
@gauthieryannick
Yes, if you follow (this) logic.
Or we can assume my above point (battery not in use when docked) is valid, even in your particular case.
And to make things clear, I'm not frowning upon this product.
I was just replying to the second comment from this section, which was :
"Still can’t charge whilst using so....worthless."
Bisous.
