Koei Tecmo Europe and developer Gust Studios have today announced that Fairy Tail has been delayed from its original 19th March release date to the 25th June.
A press release detailing the announcement says the change of date is "due to the developer’s desire to further enhance the game for a more enriching Fairy Tail experience". The game's producer, Keisuke Kikuchi, has shared the following apology:
"I am truly sorry for Fairy Tail’s delay, and the inconvenience caused to our fans, partners and stakeholders who are looking forward to this title. Please allow us to take further time to polish the game to ensure it is as high quality as possible, so we can offer you a truly immersive experience.
We will be working hard to enhance the magic effects, event scene effects, improving the game balance and more! We will talk about the improvements in more detail in the coming months. This delay will allow us to ensure we provide you a much more satisfying game. Thank you for your understanding!"
The game is described as a "magical JRPG" based on Hiro Mashima’s best-selling manga and anime series of the same name. It follows the plot found in 'The Grand Magic Games' story arc, allowing players to experience the episodes of this fan-favourite storyline in game form. It'll feature never-before-seen story and quest elements, too.

Mildly disappointing, but at the same time, gives me time to work through all the games I am buying in February. Hopefully the game will be better for it.
As the saying goes...
I don't mind waiting a bit longer for this one. I'm still working on my back log and that means I'll only have to pay for animal crossing that week. And I just remembered I have the week after that off from work so this'll be my "vacation game"
Saw a trailer for this game and it really looked generic /bland.
Town with almost no npc’s and if you see one it’s the same.
Things like that give me no hope.
Uh.. Pumpernickel.. I was waiting for this one. I think I’m actually in a drought now. I guess it’s time to check my wish list on games I didn’t buy on the E shop.
gives me plenty of time to continue to hit my backlog og switch games.
Wow, this one hurts
That was the only Switch pre-order I had and that is going without a Switch game in February.
2020 is going to be remembered as the year of delays for video games
My wallet is grateful.
This looks so bad. I'm not the biggest fairy tail fan but it doesnt look like it gives the show justice
I'm kind of happy since I just started DQ11 and don't need anything coming along to distract me from that for a while. And I'm happy any time a dev think their game needs some extra polish.
@JasmineDragon ha ha, DQ11, that will take you a while. I bought it at launch and I'm still clawing my way through it.
I dunno if this was a better or worse idea. If Xenoblade Chronicles DE comes out at the predicted May/June timeframe, it's GG for the Switch version of this game. XD
I say it once ,and will say it again. Rather wait longer for an good game then see it rushed out the door and it be terrible. Take all the time you need
I really like Fairy Tail, I'd prefer them to delay it and put their best effort into it, than to release yet another mediocre anime game, like we've had so many of over the years from other studios.
Yeah, you'd better apologize for trying to make a game better. Everyone prefers a broken game that is barely playable for months before being patched.
And in case you lovely people lack humour, this was sarcasm.
@MS7000 I honestly don't mind delays, but you know what grinds my gears? Devs giving a release date and then be like " oh noe, who wouldve thought that this game isn't in a stable state " like don't give a release date in the first place. infuriating tbh
@JessicaSKY I can get that. Sometimes there are things that are just out of there hands however. To be fair, it could also be a business decision. On PS4 at least, there were quite a few high profile titles coming out around March, not to mention that a day later than the original date on March 20th is also when Animal Crossing launches. Now admittedly not everyone likes AC, but it is by far the higher profile launch of the two on Switch. It is not like they chose for all the other games to come out at the same time.
But yes, if devs know the game is definitely not going to be ready, then they should wait until they are ready to announce the date.
