Mario Kart Tour is celebrating our favourite moustachioed plumber's roots over the next couple of weeks, with today signalling the start of the Mario Bros. Tour.
This new tour will be active from today until 11th March and adds 'Classic' variants of Mario and Luigi into the mix. As you can see in the video above, these versions of Nintendo's biggest stars have their colour palettes swapped in a nod to the characters' original designs way back when.
The tour also brings back Mario Circuit, but this time you'll be driving and flying around a remixed version of the track you know so well.
Will you be checking out the new content? Do you still find yourself playing the game regularly? Let us know with a comment below.

I wish that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would have gotten those cool DLC items instead of that really crappy mobile game that just exists to scam money out of people.
Yeah, yeah, just give me Mario Kart 9 already!
You know the game is free, right? It is an okay game but to call it a scam because of OPTIONAL microtransactions seems to be a bit of a stretch. It's nice to see mobile games being consistently updated. I'm primarily a console gamer but there is nothing wrong with the concept of mobile gaming.
When will they add proper controls?
Let’s freakin’ go.
@tanaka2687 Theres nothing wrong with the concept, but the execution is for the most part horrendous, hence why people look down on mobile games as a whole.
I doubt people are inherently against the concept of games on a phone, it's actually extremely convenient in theory and with the incredible progress in what mobile devices are capable of it has so much potential...but the vast majority of mobile devs have and continue to release such utter trash with such blatantly anti consumer monetization schemes not just built into the game, but the game itself being built around increasing its ability to pry as much money from the hands of players as possible through various documented underhanded tactics.
I can’t quite put my finger on why I dislike the mobile version so much - I guess it is because I want them to add more to Mario Kart 8 - it feels like they’ve forgotten that this game still exists.
I played this game but an hour later i deleted it.
Come on nintendo give us Mario kart 9.
With the same treathment.
Been playing since day 1. Love it.
Mario Generations confirmed?
@Tao,
I think it's only the core minorities that look down on them, there are a lot of fans of the mobile pricing system, they do not see small micro transactions as an issue, and you can play these games for free.
If I say to my wife and daughter I have just spent $60 on a game they think I have been ripped off, all perspective at the end of the day.
It's a cute cup, but 19.99 for the 8-bit glider? More folks would make these kinds of purchases if they were reasonable
Well it's been about 6 years Nintendo...can I please get Mario Kart 9?
As long as they put this stuff into a real Mario Kart game, instead of just the money making scam
@RareFan its a nice mobile game, totally enjoyable without giving a cent.
But it get very repetitive while being very addictive... I just have uninstalled it.
@Max_the_German only people who bought a wii u which wasnt many really, its mainly for people with a switch who want a mk game but didnt have a wii u
I don't understand the attitude of some people - that this exists and continues to be supported and VERY profitable does not impact in any way on the development of console games.
The only thing preventing the release of Mario Kart 9 is the ongoing success of Mario Kart 8.
It's a very decent phone game, gets a few minutes of my time on my commute most days, never spent a penny on it.
@tanaka2687 In much the same way that giving someone some free crack is OK in the hope that you get them addicted. Almost every mobile game is free now because they know that the best way to make money is getting people addicted to a game and then offering them little incentives constantly to get ahead.
The lack of Mama Luigi in these comments severely disappoints me.
@tanaka2687 The problem is I want this costume, but the mobile game has awful controls and Nintendo has stopped supporting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe because this is their new money maker.
This mobile game can be fun, but I would never spend any money on it because the deals are crap. People that spend any money on Mario Kart Tour are ridiculous. Many mobile games become cash-grab trash. If fun content doesn’t continue in the mobile game, then it will become very repetitive. This is never good because spending money on those mobile games won’t make any of these games better.
I’m quite fond of Mario kart tour. I hope triple items and frenzy mode makes it to the console version one day, and combos to accumulate points adds real depth to the game. These new elements married with Mario kart 8 would make a brilliant game
no one plays these guys online. it's always the heavys. I guess it's for the kids
Mario comes to Mariokart...mind blown (yeah, I know there where different versions already)!
