Towards the end of last year, Hamster added Konami's vertical side-scrolling shoot 'em up TwinBee to its Arcade Archives collection on the Nintendo Switch. Now, to follow this up, it has decided to release Bells & Whistles.
Although the two titles sound like they have nothing in common, Bells & Whistles is actually the fifth entry in the TwinBee series and is known as Detana!! TwinBee in Japan. The premise of this 1991 release is much the same - requiring the player to shoot everything in sight.
Here's some more information about it from the official PR, and below this are some in-game screenshots:
Collect bells to receive all sorts of power ups or powerful Charged Shots and use them to save Planet Mel from being invaded by the alien Iva. During co-op play, TWINBEE and WINBEE can work together to use Special Power Up attacks.
Bells & Whistles will set you back $7.99 / £6.29, supports up to two players and is due out tomorrow on 16th January.
Will you be adding this to your retro game library on the Switch? Tell us below.

Hmm... looks interesting, I’ve never heard of this one before. Perhaps I’ll take a closer look Tommorow?
Wow this looks exciting, I don't have any shoot em ups on my switch. Possibly checking this out tomorrow!😀
Of corse! 🙂
Always support retro Konami awesomeness.
Now this is more interesting!
Finally getting something that doesn’t feel too dated.
For anyone who would like to see it in action

Is there a way to set player defaults so I can play as the pink ship in single-player?
More Arcade games from the 90’s is a win for me. I’m getting this.
I dont want to hear anything about Konami unless it’s them dropping a Suikoden Collection on Switch or Suikoden 6.
Sorry, didn’t mean to go off topic but it burns me up.
Meanwhile I continue to bite my nails seeing all these Konami arcade games and left wondering "Could Sunset Riders FINALLY get a modern rerelease?"
Beautiful, just beautiful. Best release of the year so far for me. Twin Bee is one of the finest shooters
I’m so tempted to say the ‘thing’...so tempted. But I won’t. I don’t want to jinx this series by saying it
@Angelic_Lapras_King omg that would be amazing!! SR is One of my all time favorite arcade games! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
@Supadav03 Me too bro. Even though I have the entire collection on PS3, I really cannot be arsed to boot it up. Haha.
It's a nice little shooter, but the real star of the Twinbee series is the sequel to this one - Twinbee Yahho! I have both of them on the Saturn and I'd put them up there with the Parodius series (also from Konami) as the very best cute 'em ups.
Do we have to use the 'Shmup'
Was this released on the SNES? I remember playing a Twinbee game on that, it had great music
@Rodan2000 The SNES got its own game called Pop ‘n’ TwinBee but Detana!! is a similar looking game and got a really good port to the PC Engine back in the day.
I love TwinBee. Speaking of, I still hope that Konami World gets a Western release. It requires translation so I doubt if it will ever happen.
I really wish that Hamster could get some licensed arcade games into the mix (TMNT, Bucky O'Hare, X-Men, Aliens, etc.) - even if it means increasing the cost by a couple of dollars.
Also, I really wish Johnny Turbo would either update their titles with some more screen options or turn the licenses over to Hamster to get handled properly. I really like some of the games that have been released under the line, but the lack of graphical options turned me off.
I really like the color pallet, makes a change to the usual shooters.
“ vertical side-scrolling shoot 'em up” is it me, or does this not make sense?
Also, can someone PLEASE release Raiden , not V but the older version...thanks
The PC-Engine version was on Wii VC internationally (I assume it was also on the Wii U in that late-era PCE VC rush Konami did).
Sadly not on TurboGrafx Mini, but that already has enough shooters we can't complain too much.
Nice, i assume this means there might be also a chance we'll get a parodius soon.
Also, it's generally great to see Hamster bringing more 90's stuff.
One of my yesteryear SHMUP arcade classic. Bought the game from Jpn e-shop already.
Will this show up on a second Konami Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection?
Can you play this game with the screen switched to vertical mode?
Would love to play this with my FlipGrip!
