Launching on Nintendo Switch next month is Riverbond, a co-op dungeon crawler packed with "adorable" enemies in a voxel world.
Actually supporting both co-op and single-player gameplay, the Switch version of Riverbond comes with a brand new ethereal wonderland called Crystalwatch, a fantasy world full of precious gems and fearsome lizard warriors. You'll also find a number of crossover skins available to enjoy, including Raz Aquato from Psychonauts, The Kid from Bastion, Shovel Knight, and more.
As for what you'll actually be getting up to? Well, there are nine worlds to smash through, with players busting their way through hordes of enemies and making everything explode in a shower of cubes. Here's a little more:
Classic Single Player or Chaotic Couch Co-op!
Whether in single player or taking it up a notch in chaotic couch co-op, you can play this epic adventure your way. With drop-in, drop-out couch co-op, everyone wins together!
Cubic Combat and Awesome Voxel Destruction
With a selection of fast and responsive weapons, wreaking havoc on everything is always satisfying. Topple massive towers with a swoosh of your sword, get trigger happy on mobs of enemies, and explode environments into colourful bursts of voxel goodness!
Cute Characters and Deadly Bosses
Meet charming characters, make unexpected allies, and battle with cute (but deadly!) bosses. Choose from over 50 weapons to suit your play style and triumph over evil. Cue epic adventure music!
The game arrives on Switch on 10th December and will be priced at $24.99.

Always down for some good couch co-op
I wish I had more of these
I have played it. Guys... it's amazing. Like, it's a weird combination of plain co-op fun and the greatest use of voxels I have ever witnessed.
Nine outta ten, from me at least.
Voxel. No.
(Hope the people who can get past voxel graphics enjoy it though. I just can't deal with that.)
I’m a big fan of voxel graphics. Not all the time but done well, it’s a nice change. I might give this one a whirl if the single player is decent too.
I'm not interested in this game, but I did learn a new word: voxels. Interesting.
@AlexSora89
This does look fun to play with my sons, but at $25 we'll wait to see how the Minecraft game turns out. We also have Space Pioneer next week for $5 to keep us entertained for a while.
@k8sMum I think voxels is just French for ugly. 😉
While it looks pretty simple - and it is a pretty simple hack n slash game with no rpg mechanics involved - it is very fun. Not particularly difficult but quite engaging. And LOADS of skins and silly weapons to use!
This looks a lot like 3D Dot Game Heroes, which I would love to see ported over to Switch.
@Panopticon No doubt, I never finished it on my Ps3 and actually rebought it not to long ago. Got probably 15 hours into it.
This game looks incredible but I have heard some really bad things about it. I'll wait and see what is said about it.
@Chunkboi79 Same for me. I sunk a good 10-15 hours in, then I got stuck so I looked up online to see where to go next and I went down a rabbit hole of all these extras I had missed. "By now you should have all these weapons and all this extra health and if you've missed any of them you're a complete moron" and I felt disheartened and gave up
@rjejr
Totally recommended.
@AlexSora89 "Totally recommended"
Been a hectic week of cooking dinner for 22, shopping, and a nasty cold, so can you refresh my memory what game you "Totally recommended"?
If ti's Riverbond you can simply reply this one.
$25 isn't really going to work for me though, not around BF and cyberweek sales. I bought Astrobot Rescue Mission for $13.99 and Bastion for $3.50, thats about it. I do have Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Fire Emblem 3 Houses in my Target cart b/c they are supposed to be having a buy 2 get 1 free sale on Saturday. Those tend to exclude Switch games, but 3 games all w/ a "3" in the title gives me hope for a B2G1 sale.
@rjejr
Put it in your wishlist then. Yeah, imperative verbs aren't usually my thing, but Riverbond deserves a spot in anyone's wishlist, really - if it gets discounted below ten bucks, it's basically a freebie.
It's not much on longevity, but it's hella charming nonetheless.
@AlexSora89 Thanks, I will add it to the wish list and wait for a sale.
@rjejr
You won't regret it, pal! Aaaaand... uh... sorry for having been rude, or for having come across as rude anyway.
@AlexSora89 What, you're never rude, your one of, if not the, funnest and funniest guy on NL. I know my last reply was short but it was late and I've had a bad cold for the past week and it's really messing w/ me.
@AlexSora89 Good news - just for me, sorry - signed my son up for 3 months of Xbox Live Gold Ultimate Gamepass PC for $1 so I get to play Riverbond for free. OK $1, not free, but he's playing Bloodstained so it's free enough. Luckys Tale 1st though, unless I have to wait until my kid gets a new videocard for Christmas, which he is.
I'll let ya know how it goes. 😁
@rjejr
Keep me filled in, in either article I've been bugging you with Riverbond!
@AlexSora89 Riverbond so far...
Played for about 30 minutes.
Cant' find a map.
Can't find the 6th crab nest.
Can't find a save.
Can't tell how the 9 "worlds/levels" are connected, if at all.
Exited after finding 5 of 6 crab nests, looks liked I'd have to start over if I go back in, so I'm probably done w/ the game.
If it doesn't have save points, I don't play, I have no time for do-overs.
It was cute, but it feels like a beta. Like most indie games I try to play these days. Companies need to learn to put in save points, this whole "rogue lite", "rogue like" stuff just ain't for me, I have things to do.
@rjejr
The game definitely breathes an arcade feel, but it's unarguably best played in co-op. But I do get where you're coming from, so I'm still thanking you for having given the game a try!
@AlexSora89 No need to thank me, I'm just really glad I didn't spend any money on it.
Time to move onto Lucky Tale.
I'm also playing Bastion. You ever play that one? Nothing super new but I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, it's a very minimalist rpg but it's cute and fun. I got it for $3.50 but these days even for $15 it's not that bad when Super Boy is $40.I was going to buy that on sale for $20 but the NL review said it's hard and I don't do hard. Well not for $20, for $5 maybe.
I bought Astrobot for $14 and I'm really looking forward to that, demo was great, but I've had a cold and I don't want to be sneezing and coughing into the visor, my family uses it too. I also need to get Concrete Genie.
It's nice to have more than 1 console, and w/ Gamepass on PC it's like having all 3. 😁
It looks pretty nice.
