We know what you're thinking. Super Mario Odyssey – great game that it is – came out ages ago. Surely, releasing an art book based on the game now would be a silly idea, especially when the spotlight has fallen on Mario's sibling and his latest adventure?
Putting aside any debates on launch timing, Dark Horse's latest tome is a welcome release any time of the year, because, within its 368 pages, it packs in a truly astonishing amount of detail.
What we have here is a comprehensive archive of every aspect of Super Mario Odyssey's design, from concept doodles to promotional tweet artwork, and much more besides. From enemy designs to stage mock-ups and logo templates, no stone is left unturned in this exhaustive book; it really does feel like you're getting a complete account of how the Switch title came to be, from a design perspective. There are also interviews with the core team behind the game, explaining some of the key decisions that contributed to the way it looks and plays.
Protected by a transparent slip-case which also houses the book's logo, The Art of Super Mario Odyssey is a lush and luxurious piece of work, and is pretty much essential for anyone who played the game and enjoyed it. We'd love to show you more, but that would be ruining the surprise. You'd better make some room on your shelf, then.

I agree that this is a odd time to release it. However, i might still order it
That's a nice thing to add to a Christmas wishlist anyway. I'd enjoy unwrapping that and giving it a good read.
I don't see any problem with this releasing now at all. Art books are totally unrelated to whatever release schedules a console has, so it doesn't have to be an art book about a current game at all.
And far as I'm concerned, they're always welcome.
To add some more "shock value": I recently bought the art book "Commodore Amiga - a visual compendium". And that SO many, many years after that particular system having disappeared from the market altogether.
How about that one for not being appropriately timed, aye?
SMO will be talked about for years while LM3 will be forgotten in under two months just like it’s predecessors.
I wish this game would get an expansion. I sometimes have the urge to revisit it but I’ve 100%ed it and I don’t feel like retreading they same ground, some new worlds would be amazing.
Oh, this book is coming soon too? I took a look at Splatoon 2 art book's release date last week since I was wondering if it came out yet. It's coming next month as well. The first Splatoon art book is one of my favorites so I'm going to grab the second one soon. I could also get this one while I'm at it. It looks nice.
If you want this in Digital form then you can get it from the iBook store on Apple devices for £20.99.
Bought it back in March
Had this preordered since early this year! Excited for it!
Can we really call it a classic if it isn't even 10 years old?
Um... it was the two-year anniversary of this game a couple of days ago.
This looks lovely. Started a second play through of the game recently and wow, what a game.

Is the Amiga book good? I’m tempted by that.
@electrolite77 Well, as an avid Amiga fan, I'm obviously not objective, but I'd say that it's an Amiga lover's dream. Everything you could possibly think of is in there, and then some.
I also haven't read or seen a single bad review of it, before I bought it, so I'd say that besides my own opinion, it comes highly recommended for anyone that knew and owned (or still owns, like I do) the Amiga computer, so it's a must-buy/must-have in that case.
Here's a trailer in true Amiga demo scene style, to wet your appetite:
Nintendo Life used to have a separate review on it, but for the life of me,
I can't seem to find it. All that comes up, is the latest "best video game books" article, but that only has a link to the official book publisher's page. That might give you a little bit more of an idea of what to expect though, so here it is:
https://www.bitmapbooks.co.uk/products/commodore-amiga-a-visual-commpendium
Oh, and just in case you're wondering: no, the double m in "commpendium" is NOT an error, it's a reference to Commodore.
@ThanosReXXX
Thanks for the replay and sorry for being tardy with mine.
I’m gonna eat a copy then. I was quite late in getting an Amiga (early 1995) but had a brilliant time once I did with that incredible back catalogue. It was also the thing I listed after terribly as my old Amstrad CPC started to look dated. Such an iconic system.
@electrolite77 Definitely. Still one of my favorite systems ever (edit: I actually still own three Amiga systems). And no worries about the late reply. I actually wouldn't have minded if you haven't given me one, seeing as I had already answered your question.
I'm hoping you're going to enjoy the book just as much as I do, although I'm pretty sure you will.
