Pokémon Sword and Shield might be the upcoming games getting all of the attention, but let's not forget that we also have a Nintendo Switch Detective Pikachu sequel to look forward to.
We haven't heard anything about the upcoming sequel since it was first announced earlier this year, but developer Creatures Inc. has today shared a splattering of job listings as it searches for more development staff.
The studio is searching for digital game planners, a game programmer, a CG engineer, several 3DCG designers who will work on things like character models, and an effect designer. You can see all of the posts for yourself here if you like, although the site is naturally in Japanese and all jobs are located in Tokyo.
The page also shows off some rather lovely looking images of stars from the game, however, which we've shared with you below. The sequel is said to conclude the original game's story and will feature a different ending to that found in the feature film which hit cinemas a few months ago.
Did you play the original on 3DS? Looking forward to a new game on Switch? Tell us below.

I'm looking forward to this equally as much as Sword and Shield. I really enjoyed the original and the movie. Hope this series really becomes a big hit so there can be more games in the future!
For that pun I'll see you never work in the industry again.
@AlexOlney Ouch. Guess I should have kept my Meowth shut.
"The sequel is said to conclude the original game's story" do you mean include?
@Bunkerneath Nope, definitely conclude. In the game you never found out what happened to Tim's father.
@AlexOlney Bewear. I'm sure there are plenty more Poké puns to be used.
@Matthew010 no way, isn't that kind of a broken game?
@Bunkerneath I think they probably always wanted to make this a series and theh couldn't think of any better way than to split the story. This is only my theory though.
@Bunkerneath
The original 3DS game was delivered episodically via digital releases, just in Japan. The intentional release didn't happen until all episodes were completed.
Due to the episodic development, I imagine what happened is they realised that the 3DS had limited prospects so they decided to wrap up production on the game early and conclude the story as they'd intended on the Switch. That's purely speculative though, they might've intended the cliffhanger ending for the 3DS title from the start.
I completely forgot this existed
Well I'm glad to see the art direction won't follow the feature film.
Even if that might have been an interesting challenge for the developers. ^^
@Xelha
I heard tell one such is underway for release this coming holiday season~~~
</suspenceful irony>
And no port of the first?
I suspect shenanigans afoot.
A HD port of the first Detective Pikachu would be nice.
I forgot how boring Tim was in the game.
Now this is a budget.
Detective Pikachu was basically a "my first David Cage video game" experience. You know, the guy who is responsible for games like Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human.
@Matthew010 Wynaut use Poké puns?
Wow those actually look like all new character models built from scratch!

Glad it's a sequel and not a port. Have the original but it's still waiting to be played.
@g_ruz ...you got me. I can't think of any more.
@Matthew010 oh, don’t be such a Slowpoke when it come to Poké puns.
...
Okay that made me cringe. It’s like an episode of Pokémon Sun/Moon the series with Samson Oak.
Edit: aaand I’m just now realizing how half of the Pokédex was named. It’s making my brain Exploud, but I have an Inkling of a suspicion that other Nintendo IPs contain naming puns as well. Anyway, I’m off to eat some CallieMarie...
I’m sorry. Please don’t Incineroar me for this. I’m excited for the new Detective Pikachu 2
I didn't play the 3DS title but I would play a port of it on Switch.
Sorry but I just find it hard going back to the much smaller, dimmer, 3DS screen now. #spoiled
