The Genesis and the SNES versions were completely different from each other and great in their own ways. Which versions are included here is my question. If it's all of them then it would be 4 separate games so this is not clear. Still excited regardless.

@AlexSwitch10 I'd imagine if Capcom's Aladdin was on there, there would be a logo on the box. So I'm guessing Mega Drive Aladdin one and Lion King with both the MD and SNES soundtracks like the article says.

Then again who knows, maybe all the Lion King ports will be on there as unlockables. From, NES, Gameboy, Game Gear, Master System and so on.... XD

The Super NES and Mega Drive/Genesis received two completely different games regarding Aladdin. This will be the first time a Nintendo console is getting Virgin's game. The Lion King was released for both platforms, but the Super NES version had the superior audio.

I grew up with the SNES Aladdin, as For The Lion King I had that on the Game Gear. I think I did rent the SNES version at some point.

I'm not sure if I actually owned Aladdin, think I just played it on SNES.

I was wanting to play Aladdin since seeing the movie in a theater awhile back. I remember playing the SNES version, but I wouldn't mind playing the Virgin Games version as I haven't had a chance to experience it.

Great and unexpected news. Although it has yet to be clarified which edition of aladdin will be included. I 'm a fan of the genesis aladdin and i have it on physical too. But i wouldn't mind either of them.

Just so y'all know these are based on the Virgin version, not the Capcom version which is why Lion King is included as Virgin made both Aladdin and Lion King on the Genesis. The Super NES version of Aladdin is the only one not included here as that one was developed by Capcom. Both the Super NES and Genesis version of Lion King were made by Virgin so it make sense to include it. It's no big deal anyways as the Super NES version of Aladdin was ported before. My only complain is why they don't remastered the Jungle Book as well which that too was originally made by Virgin for Super NES and Genesis not to mention it also had a live action remake as well before Aladdin and Lion King.

I would love for the Disney afternoon collection to come to the switch too.

@MotionMan The Genesis Aladdin is the different one as the Super NES version came out first. The Super NES version of Aladdin was one of the few last Disney license game Capcom made before the license change hands to Virgin.

I'm waking up bright and early tomorrow and I had better see an official Gamestop listing for this game. I am so hype! I hope we get both versions of both games. I know Lion King is virtually identical and the SNES version has the better sound, but a few sound effects are different and I grew up with the Genesis version of both games.

Most importantly, please keep the cheat codes intact. I hate having to struggle with the lava level and I prefer skipping it altogether.

I still think the SNES/Genesis era is most likely my fave gaming generation. 3DS nearly beat it by having SNES/Gen games, plus remasters, and series continuations....

The movie is one of my favorite Disney soundtracks of all time, and chiptuning it made it even better.

I realize I’m in the minority here but I thought Aladdin snes was far superior to the genesis game. The platforming felt way better and I thought overall it was a better interpretation of the character. Aladdin wouldn’t be chipping soldiers to bits with a sword he’d be swinging from clothesline’s pouncing goons stupid is what he’d do! Much better music in snes in both games to. Even still this is a great release whatever we get. Also yes jungle book would fit nicely here. That game was tough as nails by the way!

If they're putting Aladdin and The Lion King together, why not throw in The Jungle Book as well and make it the full Virgin Disney Games collection?
Though I'm not certain how many unique versions of The Jungle Book Virgin made. I'm pretty sure SNES was a unique version, possibly Genesis as well. I think NES and GB were another game, and SMS and GG was another still.

@Dm9982 the snes/Genesis battle was indeed an exciting, epic time for gamers- if you didn’t yet, you OWE it to yourself to read the “Console Wars” Which tells the story of how Sega caught up to Nintendo in market with the Genesis! Great book.
The 3DS has its share of classics no doubt but I feel the Switch with its sheer amount of classic games now available has overtaken the 3DS by now by far.
Yea It’s a great week for us Aladdin fans with this game announcement and the release of both Aladdin movies in iTunes which I just grabbed tonight! 😊 Robin Williams still makes me laugh as the Genie still all these years later! 😁

I may be the weird guy that wants BOTH the Genesis and SNES versions of ALADDIN. The SNES version had some great platforming and both soundtracks are top notch.

Clever idea both have had movies out this year and this is infinitely more appealing than a big budget tie in game. Which in the 3D era is rare to see a decent example of.

The Megadrive version of Aladdin was amazing and visually spectacular for it's time, I would really like to play that one again. Actually a lot of the Disney games were great back then and particularly on Sega's side

I would be down for this. Only ever played the snes version of either of these. I hope they are not limited to the point alot of folk cant get hold of it as I'd snap this one up if it comes to the UK.

I've played both the SNES and Genesis versions of The Lion King, and of the two, I'd say the SNES version was better. It had better music that sounded like it came from the movie, and it had great-sounding voice clips, whereas the Genesis version did not have either.

If they are remastering this game, using elements from both versions, I hope they use the audio files from the SNES version.

Fun fact: the main devs of the SNES and Mega Drive versions of Aladdin thought the other game respectively was better.

Pretty cool. This may be nostalgia clouding my judgement and my fondness of the original movie, but I think Lion King SNES is still one of the best licensed games.

I know it’s cheating but I’d really like it if we get the rewind feature in this set, as well as for the mega man zx collection that may happen. Aladdin snes isn’t too bad, I beat that one. Aladdin Genesis I’ve only played briefly so cant say but lion king is the harder game from what I can tell. I’m pretty sure jungle book on both consoles are another case of Aladdin, very different games. To me jungle book is the hardest of the three.

Great! It means the digital editions will be hugely overpriced. Games like this should be released as Limited Run games later so the physical obsessives can get what they want without those happy to be digital gamers being penalised.

Never played Lion King on either system. I was a staunch believer that Genesis version of Aladdin was the better of the two games, until recently. I played the SNES version again, and I found it a much more enjoyable game. Way better platformer than the Genesis game. I think I was taken by the "cartoony" graphics and music of the Genesis game back in the day, but the SNES holds up in the area, but I found it was way more fun to play. But don't get me wrong, I still really like the Genesis version, but I like the SNES version just as much now.

No SNES Aladdin makes me sad, although I never finished it admittedly. It was when I was still relatively new to gaming and kept getting my butt kicked in the segment with the flying carpet and lava and other such things. I don't actually know the name as it has been such a long time since I played, and I have never actually watched the film.

I was saying early today that I wouldn't buy this remaster, I have both games on Mega Drive, but now... man, depending on the price... It's 1080p, with museum, music player, a demo playable for the first time... No SNES version, though, which I consider inferior but still worth it.

Well this is a bit disappointing, I thought they were going to HD remastered both games like they did DuckTales Remastered and Castle of Illusion, instead it's just a collection of roms like the Disney's Afternoon Collection? Well at least it got physical copies unlike the other collections. I'm glad Capcom wasn't involve in this one, they would had put all the Lion King games as DLC and only included the Aladdin games on the cart.

@KingBowser86 That one was made by Capcom so it won't be included. They only included versions that were originally made by Virgin which is the Genesis Aladdin and Lion King. I'm surprise they didn't go all out and also include the SMS/Game Gear versions of Aladdin and Lion King as well since those look and play better than the Game Boy ones but then again those are probably made by different dev apart from Capcom and Virgin. Had they include the SNES version of Aladdin, then they also would had to include the SMS/GG version of those as well and the awful PlayStation version of Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure which was made by Paradox Development from Activision.

@Wavey84 Yeah it seems like an easy win for them, since they know the reputation of these games. Haven’t seen either of the two remakes, and I don’t even remember Aladdin that well. The Lion King I fell asleep through as a kid, but it’s a pretty good movie.

I would like to see an alternate ending where Simba just gorges himself on fruit in the jungle and returns to the kingdom 30 years later to find it is a horrible dystopia. Then he says “screw it” and returns to the jungle again to gorge on more fruit. The End.

This looks pretty cool! When it was said that it was going to be an HD remaster, I was under the impression that they would be using brand new hand-drawn graphics, so I'm kind of bummed that's not the case, but still, I think this is cool.

Always preferred SNES Aladdin, just had better level design for me and seems more playable now than back then.

The one made by Virgin for MD/Amiga/DOS etc, along with Lion King, I just cant get into nowadays. Just those games that you played a lot as a kid but when you boot them up now you lose interest after 10 minutes.

I know that the MegaDrive version of Alladdin is better (I've played it back in the day on my friend's MegaDrive and emulated it countless times), but I've grown up with the SNES version, and I really want it. On the other hand, Lion King versions are virtually identical (well, as far as you can overlook technical differences of the platforms). I understand all the difficulties of licensing, but still...

This makes me really happy since I love these two Disney animated films. And I always wanted to play these games.

Genesis is a name used in North America. Is it so much callories wasted for the writer of this article to write "Genesis / Mega Drive" to make the rest of the world feel being included? Just 2 more words: Mega & Drive.

I could play through Aladdin on the Game Boy without any flaws back in the day. My partner loved the The Lion King videogame. So at the right price, I might actually get this.

Used to be jealous of the Megadrive version. The snes version was great, but the Megadrive version was a better movie adaptation. And for the time the visuals looked like the movie. Can't wait!

Remastered? Hopefully they are both also updated, by this I mean - more Diversity, pushing modern agendas and not sitting on the sidelines in the modern day Cultural Civil War.

I feel they are wasting so much space on those Blu-ray disc/Switch cartridge, seriously a PS4 Blu-ray could potentially hold all the NES, Genesis, SNES, Game Boy, Game Gear, SMS, Turbo Grafx-16, and GBA Disney games even if all them were upscale to HD. These roms collection feel more like a ripoff when you think about it. Also I play both versions of Aladdin one on my Super Nt and the other on my Mega Sg and they look and run much better than what was seen on this trailer.

@retro_player_22 Blu-ray capacity is irrelevant to retro games being remastered and re-released. Blu-ray fits thousands of books. That doesn't mean that we have to destroy our libraries full of old and new books.

@Dm9982 Same age man with 3 kiddos myself. I'm super excited for this as well. I never did beat Lion King. I beat Aladdin on Genesis and that was the superior version of Aladdin in my opinion. I had the Capcom version on SNES too. I was super bias with Super NES back then, but even I had to admit that the Genesis port was better.

@EmmatheBest It's just a default color palette it appears. Doesn't seem to use the Super Game Boy's features in any meaningful way.

Too bad the GBC remake of the Game Boy game isn't here. Isn't a simple colorization like some GBC ports, but rather is a full graphical and audio makeover while maintaining the level layouts/themes, gameplay, and dialogue between levels.

I woshedr so hard for that for the Links awakening remaster, but will not happen...

For those still sad because the SNES version is not included, the game is owned by Capcom, while Disney owns the rights to the Aladdin movie and characters, it was Capcom that made that game and they own the rights, Capcom can't sell the game without a permit from Disney, and Disney can't sell the game without a permit from Capcom, that's why so many videogames based on other forms of media go to limbo, they don't get a rerelease, and now, are removed from online stores.

The Mega Drive version however, is owned by Disney, so they can sell it whenever they want because they own both the movie and game rights.

This is great news. It once again shows that Disney is willing to provide the necessary licenses to rerelease their old games. Recently we've seen:

-Capcom's Disney Afternoon Collection
-Castle/World of Illusion on the Genesis/Mega Drive Mini
-And now the Aladdin/Lion King Collection

With that said, I'm not particularly interested in revisiting these games. They were decent for their time, but were always a case of graphics over gameplay.

I was watching these two movies (the 2019 versions) in the theater this summer and I found myself thinking about these two games and wondering why we didn't get any video games with these two movies. It's as if they read my mind.

Gutted that it doesn't include the megadrive/genesis version of Lion King. The first game I ever got angrily frustrated at and also one of the first games I ever played...I remember it being a good game though.

@Henmii The Disney Afternoon Collection contains 6 8-bit games. This contains 2 16-bit games, a second 16-bit version of one of them, 2 8-bit versions of the games, plus a bonus never-before-seen 16-bit tech demo. This seems like a fair comparison in value to me.

@BongoBongo123 Um, that version is included, although it's basically the same as the SNES version, anyway. The one that's not included is the SNES version of "Aladdin."

Now that you mentioned it: The afternoon collection is a 8 bit collection. So yeah, that's different.

And now we can once again argue about the Sega and Super Nintendo versions of Aladdin all over again. I'm still on the Sega Genesis version's side, but I think the SNES version definitely has a better final boss.
