Rhythm fans will soon have a brand new way to tap along to the beat on Switch, as Super Dodgeball Beats will be grooving its way to the console next month.
Inspired by fan-favourites like Elite Beat Agents, Rhythm Paradise (Rhythm Heaven, for those of you in the US) and Taiko no Tatsujin, Super Dodgeball Beats is a competitive rhythm game featuring a campaign and local multiplayer. It tells the story of a group of friends living in a world where dodgeball has taken over the world of mainstream sport, so kind of like how the story works in Sushi Striker, except less sushi.
Here's some official info for you:
Forming their own team, three failing schoolkids band together to enter their first tournament and to their surprise, winning! Now staking their claim to be National Major League champions, they’ll have to defeat teams comprised of blood-thirsty vampires, electric-infused pensioners and mutated aliens to win the title and fulfil their dreams!
Featuring a unique manga art style and 18 unique tracks that pay homage to its Japanese inspiration, fans of the rhythm / music genre are sure to find their beat in the game’s single-player story mode and local multiplayer. Engaged in an energy tug of war with the opposing team, players will need to input correctly-timed moves through classic rhythm gameplay, albeit with a twist - battling opponents with an array of powerups and super moves, from grenades to donuts!
It arrives on Switch and other platforms on 22nd August; you'll be able to download a copy for £11.99 / $12.99 / €13.50.

Rhythm dodgeball? Could be quite fun. Here's hoping we get a demo.
They had me at Super Dodgeball
@Ralizah Agreed, demos are so good at convincing me to buy a game. Sometimes I play a demo and instantly buy it since I got to try it and liked it.
I like dodgeball and Elite Beat Agents so this could be interesting.
Rhythm...dodgeball? I can only see it as a WarioWare microgame lol
I love all the influences, so I’ll keep an eye on this
It's rare that just an article's title sells me on a game, but this one did!
But can I play dodgeball to the beats of Jumpin' Jack Flash?
This sounds like it could be a good idea.
I'll keep an eye on it, I'm fine with trying out new rhythm games....still hoping Rhythm Heaven gets a Switch game at some point, though.
(GIVE ME RHYTHM HEAVEN DIY ALREADY!!!)
I LOVE Elite Beat Agents. It’s criminal we never got a sequel (yes, I’ve played the Ouendan games too). Rhythm Heaven is amazing as well - can’t wait for this.
The art style looks amazing
OOF!! I had to read that title twice because at first I thought it said 'Chocolate-covered, bacon-wrapped $100 bills being sold for 1 penny by Charlize Theron who is currently standing at your door'! Thankfully the actual title (after I re-read it) is just as good if not better!!
@ryancraddock would be helpful to add developer and/or publisher
From the video I can see no similarities with any of the great games mentioned. Where is the huge quirkiness and genius content and variation in gameplay from Rhythm Heaven? Where are the stories and inventive gameplay and plot of Elite Beat Agents? Or the crazy sequential and simple two-ARMS gameplay of Taiko no Tatsujin, with pre-existing, popular songs? I see none of that.
HOWEVER maybe the game is fun on it's own. Should not have used the big names as click bait though; that raises the expectation bar too high. "New rhythm-based game on Switch" on the other hand, would have made the video shine on it's own merit.
inspired by one of my two fav rhythm games? ill keep an eye on this, not sure if im sold on it yet
@commentlife You can always find both of these in the 'Game Info' box.
If you're on desktop, that will be on the right-hand side of an article. If you're on mobile, you can see it by simply clicking on the game's name.
