The latest entry in the ever-growing Atelier series, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, has received a finalised western release date for Nintendo Switch. You'll be able to get your hands on it from 29th October.
The game sees the beginning of an all-new storyline arc in the series - if you can believe it, this new title will be the 21st entry. It follows the exploits of teenage tomboy Ryza, who dreams of escaping her mundane village lifestyle, alongside her band of mischievous friends. They stumble across an elderly magician who teaches Ryza the ways of alchemy, sending her on an adventure that leads her on a quest to save her hometown from a mysterious and deadly darkness.
Developer GUST Studios notes that the game features "more realistic shadows", said to make the world feel more expansive and filled with life, and "fantastical depictions of the game’s colourful characters". It also contains an all-new and evolved synthesis program which aims to make the process easier to understand.
As mentioned above, the game launches on 29th October. A special limited-edition version of the game will also become available through the NIS America online store.

Neat. I've only played the Arland games so far but have been really enjoying them and am keen for more. This being the first game in the arc means I'll definitely give it a go.
Oh. So that's where she came from.
Cool I'll get it
Yay. The more the better
This is the weirdest way to walk I've ever seen.
Still weirded out about her name in Japanese being the probably for them rather exotic "Louisa", but then it's romanized as "Ryza", which really implies more of a [rise-a'] pronunciation.
Maybe that's what passes as equally exotic around these parts?
@BenAV same here, been doing random things in Atelier Rorona for the past month and it's actually very enjoyable in a chill kind of way. Idk if there's a time limit in later games, but it honestly doesn't feel like I'm in a rush haha.
New game looks way better than the old atelier trilogy though, waw.
I really like the look of this one. It's beautiful. Also, it's the start of a new storyline.
I think this might be my first Atelier game.
@Pod Her full name is actually Reisalin Stout, which only creates more questions.
@PlickPlick
That IS weird.
I'm reminded of the danish translation of Ghibli's "Howl's Moving Castle", where the japanese pronunciation "ha-oo-roo" was prioritized over the english "howl". His apprentice retained this same quirk. But nobody else did.
Fire Emblem Three Houses would've looked better with these graphics.
Might pick it up someday if I could find it, I already had way too many Dynasty Warriors style games to complete as it is.
This one is in my wishlist
@Xelha I bet there isn't really a demand for English voices maybe.... such a pitty. I do love JP voices, but I prefer to play it first in English so I know what they are saying when I switch to JP voices. If you're missing the subs when you're distracted you do miss some of it ingame
She looks like Sakura Card Captor to me. Will be trying this one
Was not excited for the last Atelier. But this one looks good.
Always got them on VITA and they were fun on the GO. It will be even better on Switch.
It's kind of a strange thing to say, but I love how wholesome the Atelier games are. Kind of a rarity these days.
