Version 3.1.0 of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate goes live today, and will add support for the Labo Toy-Con VR Goggles.
The new 'VR Mode' will give you a whole new perspective on the action, and will, of course, require you to already own the Labo VR Kit.
Version 3.1.0 will also allow you to send your amiibo fighters on training missions:
Now you can send your amiibo off on journeys to train via the Games & More > amiibo menu! Send your battle-hardened FPs out into the wide world to spar with other FPs! amiibo you’ve sent on a journey will relentlessly pursue their training until they come home! FPs can now join Battle Arenas. Show everyone the power of a trained amiibo!

Oh God.
How in the world does this work with VR
With no head straps how are you supposed to use the V.R and play the game?
I have to try setting up the PSVR with my Switch.
while the VR is pretty good for the cheap price they need to sell a strap that works.
Hmmm this should be fun. Will give it a try later. The fixed view point should hopefully reduce the nausea. I might even be able to last a full hour! (Notice I only said “might”)
@RyanSilberman VR does not equal first person view... -_-
@RyanSilberman Probably in the same perspective as usual, but now you have a life-sized view/scale of things. Though the best implementation of some kind of Smash Bros VR game would be one where you have an avatar representation of your opponent so you can smash talk them as if they were on your couch next to you.
But...... why? What a waste of development time.
VR support in Smash is really interesting.
But what is more interesting is that new amiibo modes.
Looking forward to E3 to see the next DLC character, I'm even looking forward to mii outfits (hopefully plate armor returns).
Is this the one with the fighter balancing?
Hope it is good as this tweet:

Haha, fantastic! Look, I know not everyone cares about Labo, so I’ll just speak for myself; I’m glad that Nintendo is adding their own VR support to games beyond just the Labo VR kit. It’s a nice bonus for those of us that own the kit to try it with other games.
I am very excited about the amiibo part since me and my friends use them from time to time in our battles.
I don't have the Labo VR but I'm happy they are spreading it to more games for people that do. More bang for their bucks.
Looking forward to the Labo preview.
This is great and hope they add it to more games. Luigis mansion 3, pikmin 4
Yeah, the VR is noteworthy and all, but Amiibos are the focus here, y'all. I have a few fully trained up Amiibos and several that haven't been brought over from the 3DS version yet. I've got a modest collection, and will enjoy actually putting them to use.
Awesome about the Amiibo news! Nintendo actually hinted at online Amiibo support in the hidden files of the game, but it looks like they weren't exactly ready until now.
Ok so you hold the Switch which therefore holds up the V.R @graysoncharles? For some reason i had a picture of people playing with pro controllers and trying to hold up the V.R at the same time.
Seeing as you don't have a real source for this, it should be marked as a rumor
@RyanSilberman
I would say, basically the same as Mario Odyssey and BotW?
Looks at Smash amiibo collection
BWAHAHAHA...
it's all in moving boxes and will stay there until the amiibo of the last DLC character
Oh right...
I hope there is a function to sort out FP battles in arena, or just disable it like there is for custom stages. I don't want that poop in my smash.
why not attach the vr google on a baseball cap?
there you have your vr headset lol
I guess the vr aspect is like playing the game on movie screen at the theatre. Kind of cool but still hard to hold upto your face for long. Like others have said we need an official strap for no more than 9.99$👍🏻
As someone who gets motion sickness easy, I saw the video with Alex. I don’t want to get sick :c that would be me. However, all this VR support does make me wonder about a Pokémon Amie VR option
I don't have Labo VR, but the amiibo update could be useful!
Can't wait to try this.
Unless you have a strap, IMO Labo VR is best played sat at a desk: put your elbows on the desk to support the weight of the Switch - I've played BotW for an hour like that.
So many complaints. No one is forcing you to use the VR option. I'm just glad Nintendo is still doing something with it.
They need to make Nintendogs VR. Everybody and their mum would buy it. A virtual best friend
Oh god I’m scared it’s bad like botw and odyssey but I’ll give it a shot
Mario Kart 8 VR next please.
@Undead_terror hopes/fears? Joker is alright but it would be nice for someone bigger next time? I bet they could do something interesting with Noctis from Final Fantasy XV with his teleporting specials. I’m still hoping for ‘Default’ from Fortnite.
No wait what if it actually was the perspective of the fighter like in first person
Wait actually how would pirahana plant work
Is anyone else upset about amiibos fighting online? I go online to fight other players, not fight computers.
Pokémon Snap VR. Holding it up to your face would feel sooo immersive! (I think it would need a strap!).
@graysoncharles Exactly! This makes no sense. Even though it’s “cool”, fundamentally it should not be allowed.
Heck, it would be great if in Luigi's Mansion, you could play it on the TV, but when you undock it, it turns to 'ghost 'o' vision (or something) and you could virtually look around and see where ghosts are. That would be a nice touch using the docking feature. (would need a toggle if playing handheld obvs)
*edit. I'm actually fine with 2D games in VR thinking about it lol.
I think the most important part of Nintendo putting out additional support and content for Labo VR is that is tells me at least a few people at Nintendo are actually really getting into VR now and starting to see its huge appeal, and probably Nintendo as a company too, in a way that I think suggests it will in the near-ish future likely put out its own actual VR headset. And that would just be beyond amazing if it did such a thing--so long as it doesn't half-*** it and really goes in properly. Nintendo doing VR properly could be akin to what it was like when Nintendo first got into 3D gaming with the N64 back in the day--I mean a huge paradigm-shifting thing.
Honestly, once you've had a few great experiences in VR it's truly hard to go back to standard screens and the like.
So now we can whip out the popcorn and watch our amiibo do all the fighting for us. Nice!
VR: eh.
Amiibo Training: Yeah.
Amiibo in Battle Arenas: It's time for my R.O.B. Amiibo to show dominance.
yay! one of the games that i requested to get VR is happening.
now all we need is Animal Crossing
Great news about the amiibo support. I’ve wanted this since Smash Wii U. I imagine there will be some type of Battle Arena filter so players can avoid amiibos if they choose, similar to the spirit filter.
@Indominus_B Do you know where I could get that?
A well trained level 50 amiibo is so hard to defeat! I love them and I hate them.
Oh, and I guess I need to do some work with my Ness and Lucas amiibo.
I don't understand the amiibo journey thing. Seems like it should just be happening in the background while still letting me play other modes or something. I was excited when I heard about it, but just tried it and cannot really see myself trying it again. It just seemed boring and pointless.
@2legit2quit Yes. Patch notes are over on SmashBoards.
Diddy and Falcon got buffed! Pichu and Olimar nerfed! Good things happened with this patch.
Also, Little Mac got buffed, but I somehow doubt it'll pull him out of the gutter.
Yeah nah, still avoiding VR for Nintendo. Pretty pointless.
@RadioHedgeFund There are rumors of a Dragon Quest character coming, I personally don't care for the series, but it will be good for those that care. I would love to see another character or two made from a Western company.
