Strategic, tabletop RPG For The King is just days away from release on Nintendo Switch. Available to pre-order right now, it'll launch this Thursday 9th May.
The game blends tabletop and roguelike elements in a "challenging adventure that spans the realms". Aiming to be highly replayable, it'll have you venturing forth into the lands of Fahrul and discovering that every playthrough is unique with procedural maps, quests, and events.
For The King’s most replayable aspect is said to come in the form of Lore, which is generated through battles, story content, quests and more. Essentially, it's a currency which is carried through each of your playthroughs, allowing you to purchase new characters, customisation options, locations, encounters and items.
Here's a feature list for you to check out:
Features:
- Procedurally Generated Maps - Explore a procedurally generated world, from maps to quests to events, where every adventure is made unique.
- Singleplayer and Multiplayer Game Modes - Explore the lands of Fahrul alone, or with friends in local co-op or online multiplayer. Stick together for protection, or split the party to cover more ground.
- Turn-based Combat System - Fight and die as a party in fast paced and brutal turn-based combat using a unique slot system for attacks and special abilities.
- Includes all free updates - Following the success of For The King on PC, the console version of the game will include all the existing expansion packs for the game - including the Dungeon Crawl, Frozen Expanse Hilderbrandt’s Cellar, Gold Rush and Into The Deep adventures.
The game will launch on Switch for £19.99 / €24.99 / $24.99, although a 20% discount will be available for two weeks after release.
Will you be picking this one up later this week? Let us know below.

Hmm maybe Ill buy this..
seems interesting...
@derty Agree very Interesting..
I'd love to hear from anyone who's played this co-op. My partner and I enjoy playing cooperative tabletop games and I feel like this might be a good introduction to D&D type games. How is the learning curve for someone with no experience with RPGs or JRPGs?
This one's in the maybe category for me but probably not unless I find it for the right price. I'd be more interested if I had people to play it with.
Interesting, might get it before the sale ends.
looks really cool
I will probably pick this up in a couple of weeks, to take advantage of the launch offer but also to have less time for it to sit on my home screen unplayed whilst I take my time with FFX-2.
I’ve played several hours of this game on PC and it has been a ton of fun (even in early access). Perfect for multiplayer - kind of like the lazy man’s version of D&D. It’s one of those games you think is pretty fun and then you realized that it’s 4am.... but decide to keep playing anyway.
@Tandoori - just realized I can direct reply. Yes, the game is perfect for multiplayer, especially if you’re thinking something like D&D. Very similar, just less overhead.
its on my list. my epic & ever growing games list
Is 'proceduarly generated' another term for 'Roguelike' ? If stats remain this could be fun. If it's a start-over every time then it's not for me. Roguelikes/lites should be killed.
@Solomon18 +++ same for me. God it's so long..
I've been excited for this, but $24.99?! Its regular price is $19.99 on Steam and includes all 5 dlc packs. It looks great and its been praised on the boop show podcast but I may wait til its a lil lower to test this one out.
@YANDMAN just because you like a certain genre doesnt mean it should be killed, its just not for you.
@pixel_jones I believe it is quite common to put higher price on ports. Its different when game is directly developed for said platform. When someone is porting it, you have to pay for the extra work it costs.
@Vepra I am the King. It should be killed.
@YANDMAN You wish
@Vepra I didn't wish for it, it was passed down to me.
I'm going to pick this up this weekend and play it with the wife. We have not played a couch coop game together since castle crashers on 360 and Baldur's gate dark alliance. For the king looks like it could be fun for us.
Alsoight pick up bastion for $8 in the sale this weekend because why not!?
@bolt05 You might pick up castle crashers again once it releases on the switch
@Vepra Nah we had our fun with that. I was looking at moon chasers though. Moon something anyway, can't remember I watch listed it though, top down co-op Diablo style but simpler graphics.
