Yesterday saw the release of Ding Dong XL, a one-button arcade game that aims to really test your reflexes - and yes, it has a rather humorous name, too.

Regardless of whatever you were thinking, the name actually comes from the fact that you 'ding' and 'dong' between the top and bottom of the screen, hoping to avoid obstacles, collect points, and smash helpful power-ups along the way. It's said to have a 'just-one-more-round' kind of feel, which is hardly ever a bad thing.

Coinciding with its release yesterday, the game's creator, Adam Nickerson, has shared a lengthy Twitter thread which explained how the game came into being. As we imagine is the case for many of you reading this, Nickerson's life has been almost directed by a passion for and childhood full of Nintendo. From getting a NES at the age of five or six, to having his own game on a Nintendo console, it's been quite a ride.

The thread is a little long for us to share in its entirety here, so we've picked out a couple of highlight moments below.

If you're interested in checking the game out for yourself, you can actually go ahead and pick it up for just $0.99 / £0.89.
