CoroCoro, the Japanese manga magazine, will be offering some exclusive in-game Splatoon 2 gear to readers via a special download code with an upcoming issue. The 'Mecha Gear' is the result of a competition to design some new accessories for the online shooter, and as you can see from the pics, it's a green and reptilian take on a mech suit.
Nintendo will adapt this for the game, giving the design its own spin, but we very much like the look of that eyepiece and big, pointy mecha-claw.
This isn't the first time that contest-winning swag has worked its way into the game. The 'Traditional' and 'Moist Ghillie' sets both originated from a contest in gaming mag Famitsu.
The upcoming issue of CoroCoro with the code goes on sale on 25th April, and although there's no word on a western release, the previous contest-winning sets made their way over here, so we'd expect this to follow suit.
Like the look of this squid-based swag? What gear would you like to see added to Splatoon's wardrobe? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Hmm, so basically we can look forward to Super Saiyan, Wolverine, Deku Inklings to invade Splatoon 2? I'm up for it!
If the claws were made from high-pressure ink it'd be a pretty cool close range weapon.
Please post an update when this is released NL
Look at this kinda crappy gear that we won’t be getting!
Very cool for the kid that designed it (congrats!) but not for me.
THAT won? No offense, but I think that it looks like crap.
You people don't have to be mean I think it looks interesting.
@ThanosReXXX Looks good to me and I work as a professional designer/artist.
@MisterMan So, that would imply that you're better at forming an opinion about it than me? It's just my personal sentiment, nothing more, nothing less. And I don't feel like the aesthetics match the whole Splatoon 'feel'.
But as I said, that's my personal sentiment. No one has to agree with me, so that's perfectly fine, far as I'm concerned.
@ThanosReXXX Exactly. Just pointing out that I'm better at forming an opinion than you and that I don't agree with you.
@MisterMan Well, my point was that you aren't, regardless of your profession. And everyone is allowed their own opinion, so that goes for all of us. Nobody has to agree with everybody all the time, so I don't mind if people don't agree. What I do mind, is people thinking that they're better than others...
@ThanosReXXX calling something "crap" and then asking for me to value your opinion is about as dumb as you can get. In your second comment you actually gave a reason for not liking this design, but in your original comment you just called it "crap" so I responded to your dumb comment in a deserving manner. OK? Alright, we're done.
@MisterMan I don't ask you for anything, kid. I just expect people to respect other people's opinions (or at least allow them to have any), regardless of whether or not they agree with them, but apparently, that thought never occurred to you.
You know what? I'll adjust my original comment, to reflect the EXACT intention that it was supposed to have. Had I known before that it would safe me from having such an asinine and useless discussion about differences of opinion, I would have already done so in the first place...
It’s bad and you should feel bad.
headgear is nice. everything else is ugly
A note: April 25th seems to be a typo, as the orignal Japanese article says April 15th. (Plus, Monthly CoroCoro always comes out around the 15th)
While I'm not particularly impressed with the design, I'm gonna be disappointed if ANOTHER piece of Gear isn't release outside of Japan. I'm really getting sick of that carp.
Still waiting on the Ika Musume costume to come back :<
It would be pretty lame to not release the gear worldwide in an online game where you regularly play with people from around the world.
Kind of reminds me of the Homer car.
Dang. That looks dope.
Hope this does get released to Western gamers. Ideally as a download gift done through the Nintendo Switch News app (which Splatoon 2 and Breath of the Wild have done in the past for adding free content).
