Eastasiasoft has announced that the arcade-style shooter RXN -Raijin- will be receiving a special limited edition on Switch.
This vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up launched on Switch digitally back in December last year, harking back to arcade converts such as Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. We considered it a "flawed but nonetheless enjoyable straight-up shmup" in our review, being a solid, if not essential, game of its genre on the eShop.
The new physical options for the game will come in both 'Standard' and 'Limited' edition forms, with the limited one being limited to only 3,000 copies. The standard edition will set you back $39.99, while the limited edition costs $49.99. Here are all the goodies you can expect to find in that special edition box:
- A physical copy of the game (region free)
- Collector's Box with alternative art
- Full-colour printed manual
- 48-page full-colour artbook
- Official Steelbook™ with alternative art
- An individually numbered collector's certificate
Online pre-orders open for both editions on 30th August, exclusively on Play-Asia's website, with the games aiming to be shipped out in September.

The Limited Edition looks brilliant, but shame I'm not into these bullet hell shoot-em ups.
Wish more games came with stuff like this.
Noice!!
I was gutted when the game was removed from the EU eshop for quite some time. Was too expensive for a digital purchase but then thought I missed the chance. It returned but now this option has snagged my wallet.
Maybe they should focus on making sure the game is released properly first?
Did we ever get any reason to it being removed from the EU eShop?
Very intresting, pity its only via playasia with the heavy import / custom costs.
@XenoShaun
Actually, the game is back on the EU/UK eShop for about a month now. Simply search for "RXN".
A reason why it was gone for so many month was never given, but games disappear and reappear on the eShop all the time without proper explanations. According to rumors and the few games where we got an explanation, the proplems are mostly with the ESRB/PEGI/USK age ratings, or the games containing exploits that allow hacking the Switch.
@EmirParkreiner Really? I'll definitely have to search it out then. It's always annoying when we don't have transparancy on these things, or even a notification.
i think that a patch for the game is better than a phisical version. i bought it in japanese shop and the framerate is terrible....really terrible....one of the worst
3 shmups in a row from eastasiasoft. suppose we cant complain..
@Gowtu_Games
It's not necessarily too expensive to import.
From what i remember, P-A sometimes offers free shipping for their exclusives.
The custom costs are annoying, but you have to keep in ming that when you import something (from P-A or anywhere else) you get a fair currency conversion rate, while European branches of publishers often use absurdly unfair 1$=1€ conversion rates for the european versions, so it somewhat evens out sometimes.
@Auenegheps
Actually, the game got an update that made the framerate smoother (and added video support) about a month ago.
(Of course, the intentional slowdown like after pauses and during the bomb attack is still there, but it generally feels smoother)
@FX102A I bought the game sometime last month when it went on sale on the Japanese eShop for a mere 999 yen (about 75% off). I live in the US and only heard about the sale from someone commenting here. Totally worth it, but the short levels and (some) grinding aren't for everyone. I'll argue the grinding is nice for practicing high score runs and it's another objective to work towards. The slowdown does bug me, but it's not a game breaker.
Going to hold off on the physical version though, as I just spent $60+ on Mutant Mudds Collection and Dead Cells physical editions.
Ouch. $39.99 for the standard edition??? I mean, i like bullet hell games but even Dimension Drive and Shikhondo (which looks amazing) were only $24.99 each. Im a maybe on this one.
@MotionMan I feel like RXN was $40 in the eshop at launch.
@MotionMan
Let me put it bluntly as someone who has RXN and Dimension Drive digitally on the eShop and has the physical versions of RXN and Shikhondo preordered:
Dimension Drive and Shikhondo are 10$ download games at heart, that they are offered as physical versions at all is mostly for the sake of catering to collectors.
RXN -Raijin- is absolutely a 40$ retail game, it really should have been a retail release from the beginning, but sadly shmups have become a niche genre.
