Zodiac Interactive has revealed Tale of the Ice Staff, a brand new 2D action RPG that is scheduled to arrive exclusively on Nintendo Switch in 2019.
Very few details have been shared about the release just yet, with Zodiac posting just a single paragraph about the game alongside the new trailer. Instant comparisons can be made between the title and classic RPGs like The Legend of Zelda series, with various moments in the trailer reminding us of Link's many adventures, but hopefully Tale of the Ice Staff can stand out with some unique ideas.
Here's that aforementioned description for your viewing pleasure:
"Embark on a stunning magical journey with Yersa and her companion Nick in this single-player 2D action RPG. Shape the course of the engrossing storyline, explore new lands, meet interesting characters, and uncover secrets about the mysterious world. But be cautious! Dark forces are trying to keep you from the truth. This gem by Kurimi Gaming combines its nostalgic pixelated style with state-of-the-art game mechanics."
We'll keep an eye out for more news on this one as it develops, but for now, why not share your early thoughts with us with a comment below.

Looks like it might be fun
It's not a Switch exclusive... It's PC and Switch.
And it's not kur" i "mi gaming but KUR" U "MI Gaming...
Don't look too bad to me, will definately have to put this on my radar
I like the vibrant color palette. Gameplay looks fun too. I'm looking forward to it!
Why do indie games have crappy character portraits?
@Cobalt Seems no one counts PC these days. It's just assumed everything goes there anyways so lets just say exclusive to consoles and ignore the elephant in the room.
Pixel art is pretty good, and it looks fun. Day one if it's priced sensibly!
@Spoony_Tech True, especially sonyponies.
@Cobalt I believe the PC version is cancelled when they changed everything. It is "exclusive" by attrition.
This looks like it's really going to be good. So count me in!
@Agramonte
No, no, no !

@Cobalt oh, Thanks. I was going by the info they posted on steam some time back - guess it is back on.
well, if we stop counting PCs... the Xbox1 just got a bunch of more "exclusives" 😉
Considering action RPGs are almost non existent these days, I'll closely keep an eye on this one. I'm interested
This looks excellent, and I'm loving the old school Sega-CD/TurboDuo-style fullscreen sprite animations.
Urusei Yatsura on Sega-CD was the game that used that animation style to its full extent (plus got around the color limitations of the Genesis) IMO.

@Cobalt To be fair, with PC emulation at the level it is at, no game on console is really "exclusive", just watched a vid of some guy running God of War on his PC.
But yeah, they should defo change the title as its a bit misleading
Gives me secret of mana vibes. I'll keep my ear to the ground.
I’m liking those colors alot! It reminds me of link to the past meets crusader of centy. I hope it stands out of it’s older peers. I don’t think this kinda 2D action RPGs come that often, or atleast are that good. When I play oceanhorn for example, I’m a bit annoyed by the graphical style they went with it. This is the way to do it!
Looks pretty good. On my radar for sure
Retro style games can be great. But they can also be over done. I feel like this one leans more to "retro because it's easier to develop" rather than "retro because it's cool". That is the impression this video gives me.
Hmmm i'll await full judgement, but at this point Blossom Tales looks far superior.
Lady Palutena, is that you?
Haha, those character designs. I get a feeling the artist would rather sit around drawing hot girls all day.
