L.A. Noire arrives on Switch on November 14th, and to build excitement Rockstar has released a new trailer in 4K Ultra HD resolution.
It gives you a good idea of what the game's all about - sleuthing, crime solving, flashing police badges, that sort of thing - but we can't help but feel that for Switch owners it's perhaps painting too rosy a picture; there's no chance of 4K on Nintendo's console, with that lofty resolution reserved solely for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
We've not actually seen what the game looks like on Switch yet, but there's not long to wait now. Are you keen to get your hands on this promising remaster? Let us know with a comment.

shrugs I'm just happy we are getting it. For me portability beats out resolution.
I can't wait to play this again. Not sure if I will get it on PS4 or Switch yet, but I definitely want to give it another go.
I'm willing to bet a lot of people buying on Xbox and PlayStation don't have 4K TVs. I have an expensive TV that is not 4K. I won't be upgrading for a while.
Switch is more than enough for me.
Not in 4K?!? Doomed!
But yeah, portability > 4K for me as well.
If they showed a trailer that's not the Switch version. Why make an article on it? Makes no sense.
Looks pretty good. Not my thing, though.
@MsJubilee because it's a good talking point maybe?
@Moon my issue is the lack of legacy ports on 4K tvs. I would have to daisy chain so many switches and converters to get everything to hdmi so.
If this is not what we are getting, why are you showing it to us?
From what I've heard 4k is amazing and that's great but the initial investment in a capable TV is still a big obstacle for me.
Between 4k and HDR, the price still seems too steep to upgrade.
No doubt when 4k is affordable 8k will be announced.
I don't remember upgrading from SD to HD being this expensive?
Just use the player's settings to change the resolution to 720p, and that will come pretty close to what it actually WILL look like on the Switch.
But 4K, 1080p, 720p, who gives a hoot? Only fools and horses...
This game has a great story, wonderful and engaging voice acting, and even a pretty decent replay value, due to all the choices you can make while playing.
Now, I'm not going to say that this is a must-have title, but if you're into this type of game then it is, and if you're not sure but this trailer did somehow intrigue you in one way or another, then I'd say it's worth it to give it a go.
Big whoop. Nice click bait there, Danny. Come up with a real article next time.
@otterskateboard Don't know what you paid, but I was pretty late to the game, having the same "problem" that many people have now, namely a perfectly fine TV that is still working as it's supposed to, so no need to upgrade yet.
As a result, I bought my first HD TV in 2011, and it's still the one I use today (42" Panasonic Viera plasma full HD), and back then, that cost me €999, so not really that cheap, but I figured it was worth it.
At first (and especially back then), the need for HD TV was also quite a bit lower, but having invested in my first HD console (an Xbox 360) made me realize pretty soon that I was at a disadvantage when playing online with friends, because my previous, non-HD TV simply didn't allow me to see all the details, which was making me lose nearly every multiplayer game that made use of tiny details, such as first person shooters: I simply couldn't see who was shooting at me or where they were shooting from...
Having said all that, I do think that 4K is a worthy investment, but ONLY if you have other consoles beside your Switch, and if you have media players/set top boxes that offer 4K material.
Otherwise, just wait until your current TV is truly in need of being replaced. That'll also give you some time to set aside the necessary money, although in a few years, prices will almost certainly have dropped anyways.
P.S.
If I were you, I'd keep an eye on what LG is bringing to the market. Currently, LG OLED TV's are the most highly regarded screens. They come out on top in multiple tests and reviews.
Much like what happened with FIFA 18, I still cant pre-order this on US Amazon. Aargh!
I'm still amazed by the facial animations in this game but then it already had those back when it first released on old gen platforms. And still I can't think of that many other games being released today that go through so much effort to make faces so realistic.
Day one purchase for me on switch as I never played it before. My money is saved for that and Skyrim already.
That's a clickbait-y headline, if ever I saw one.
Day one. My preorder is locked and loaded.
I see their tweet has generated a ton of interest among PS/Xbox gamers. Would be nice to see that kind of response among Nintendo fans once in a while 😉 This looks like a fantastic game and I've always wanted to play it- I couldn't have asked for a better platform than Switch.
Btw, that's such a lame headline. And to be frank it just comes off as unprofessional. I expect more from NintendoLife then lame attempts to rile the readership up. This is a perfectly fine example of what the game will look like for most, given the majority of people don't yet own 4KTV's, and the trailer will look practically identical aside from resolution anyways
L.A. Noire Switch $49.99 ($39.99 with GCU) I was expecting $60
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/l-a-noire-nintendo-switch/6115705.p?skuId=6115705
Swtich 4k confirmed. :/
C'mon NL. Get these headlines together.
Straight trash, homie.
@otterskateboard Wait until the holidays; you'll find enough sales that something will be in your price range. I got a 4K TV for $299+tax in a flash sale last year, which since I needed a new TV anyway was a no-brainer.
@Moon wait your willing to bet people the majority of PS4 Pro owners dont own a 4K TV? now sure not all do but why buy the Pro when the standard PS4 is cheaper
Xbox One X + Switch is the best combo now.
@yuwarite That's highly debatable: the old PC version would obviously have a better resolution and/or frame rate, but looking better is about more than that in this case, since the graphics and textures have been overhauled, which is also why it is re-released on the other consoles.
So, the old version doesn't have that, meaning that this version, by all intents and purposes, is the ultimate/director's cut version on ALL consoles, INCLUDING the Switch.
EDIT:
Just play the video in 720p and you'll see it still looks damn good, and that's a pretty decent approximation of what it'll look like on the Switch.
I have the complete version on PC I got on a Steam sale for 7 dollars. Never finished it - it is a decent game at best. Being able to play it on the train wont change that.
Paying $50 for what is basically the PS3 version is a no go regardless.
@ThanosReXXX the switch version is not remastered - it is a straight PS3 port. The PS4/pro Xbox one have the remastered graphics. It is on the Rockstar site.
Might pick it up on my X but the Switch seems more likely. I like the idea of playing my Rockstar games on the go
@ValhallaOutcast the pro and one x preform better.
@BlueOcean I prefer switch + pc. But whatever floats your rock.
@otterskateboard Well when I got a PS3 when it launched, and started buying Blu-rays, I decided to get a HDTV. A 46" Sony set me back about $3000 at the time so yeah
Too many games...
@Agramonte It runs in 1080p, so it'll look much better than the PS3 version.
How about a positive story about how the reviews of Odyssey are astounding??
And we needed this video here why???
What's the difference?
@ThanosReXXX - We purchased our current set a year before you bought yours. At the time, we were living in a 700 square foot rental home. I sat about five feet from it, and the kitchen stove was my end table. It was perfectly adequate. We’re in our home now, and I find it to be inadequate for various reasons. I’m in the market, but I find TV shopping to be intimidating. I have no current use for 4K. I’m just curious why you recommend the LG OLED panels. I value your opinion, any further thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!
The game has great atmosphere but the gameplay itself was no fun.
@JaxonH "Day one. My preorder is locked and loaded."
NL should start wring articles about games you aren't buying, titles would be about the same -
"Jaxon H Isn't Buying This Game, Watch the trailer to Find Out Why"
Would be very few articles I think.
Oh well, I'm off to GS to pick up my Switch-Mario bundle. Now you can invite me to Switchworld to hang out during lunch.
@Agramonte Ah, that's kind of a bummer. Makes this trailer even more useless than it already was, then...
@yuwarite Depends on what you call expensive. The price that JaxonH posted in comment #17 seems quite reasonable to me for getting a hybrid version of the game, but of course that sentiment is personal, so there will always be people that still think this is expensive.
And nothing personal, but in general, this whole "comparing the price of Switch versions of games to the original versions" is becoming a bit tiresome.
They can't just sell it for that lower price of the other versions: there's costs involved in porting, putting it on cartridge and probably also in optimizing. I consider most people smart enough to know this, but a lot of people just like to cherry-pick the bad stuff and focus on that, which is a shame.
And besides, what you get in return is a version that is quite unique in that the Switch is the only console in existence that allows you to play the game both at home AND on the go.
Can't put a price on that, and I think that's a pretty decent trade-off, but of course, that is once again my personal sentiment...
You know what, I upgraded to a current gen console just last year with an XOne, I bought the Switch in June, yesterday I finished Zelda (not 100%), and in few hours my amazon courier should bring me Odyssey.
Oh, and I STILL have an HD Ready TV, I couldn't afford a full HD TV because I always gave priority to the games and I'm not swimming in gold...
But still, I'm happy right now, in few hours I will be playing with Mario, in November I'll grab Doom, and in December Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
It's a wonderful time to be a Nintendo enthusiast (as I always have been since 1986), I don't feel pressed to buy an XOne X and a 4K TV, I will surely buy them when I'll have the money, but I'm not in a hurry.
@bimmy-lee I recommend them based upon dozens of reviews, multiple awards, combined with my own research on what to buy.
My now 6 year old plasma screen is starting to show signs of it being near the end of its life: burnt-in channel logos and subtitles (visible as light blue smears on fixed locations) and every now and then, those same blue smears also randomly appear right in the middle of my screen from time to time.
I'm hoping it's going to last for at least 3 or 4 months more, because right now, I don't have the cash reserves to buy a new one, but I did do the research, and that is where the LG screens came out on top. And not the curved ones, by the way.
Here, check it out for yourself:

I like the music in the Benelux version better:

And here's what the critics have to say:

@bimmy-lee To add to that, as a gamer (and as a film fan), you would want the deepest colors and the blackest blacks available, and these screens offer exactly that. (and not to mention low latency for all those timely controller responses... )
What you see in those commercials, is live footage, so not video footage edited in later on to make it look better, so it will look just like that in real life too.
@MsJubilee This trailer isn't specifically for the PS4 Pro / Xbox One X versions - it's the trailer Rockstar has released to promote ALL versions of the game.
I will get this but probably after Skyrim and Pokémon probably. I still have Mario to get through first!!
This is on a list of about 30 games across Switch and 3ds that have released/due to be released since September that I want to get.
A top quality 4K TV comes with many features which can vastly improve the viewing experience - wider colour gamut, improved contrast ratio, HDR etc - but the 4K resolution part is fairly meaningless unless you have an 80" screen or sit on the floor in front of your TV. At 9 feet from a 55" screen I believe 20/20 vision cannot discern the detail difference between 1080P and 4K. Like I said though, it is often coming packaged with other benefits we can perceive, but don't get caught up in the 4K part.
Now 4K projectors, they are exciting...
Amazon is really dragging their feet with opening preorders for this, we're less than a month away from release at this point and they still haven't thrown a page up for the game.
@otterskateboard True... and there are already 8K TV in Japan... all this race for the most pixels is just non-sense. And makes people (and developers) what is what really matters in the end: a game that is fun to play.
Console gamers aren't in a position to be graphic/performance imperialists. A lot of computers can stream directly to a TV for those wanting to play PC games on the big screen (and/or those who value superficialities over gameplay). If Nintendo weren't around to provide some much-needed balance in the market, I wouldn't be gaming on a dedicated console at all.
And I wasn't impressed with the trailer. While the facial animations hold up well enough, the body movements look quite mechanical and haven't aged well at all IMO. That said though, I'm really looking forward to playing this on Switch, where I think it will be more impressive as a high-end portable game as opposed to a console port with only inconsequential changes from the original.
@maruse : Considering that the vast majority of theatrical releases are prepared at 2K (that's only slightly wider than what a 1080p TV is capable of, resolution-wise), I don't understand why UHD TVs have been rushed out to market so hastily. There's almost nothing to watch that takes advantage of the increase in quality/resolution, let alone 8K.
I don't have a UHD TV at the moment, but I do have a professional cinema 4K camera, and I hope to someday be able to watch my footage at UHD resolution (I burn my content to Blu-rays for the time being, however, there are no signs of blank UHD Blu-ray discs or burners coming to the market, though I am in the extreme minority who would actually buy that sort of thing).
I have two TVs in the 50" range. One is 4K and the other is 1080p; both are high quality. If I push 4K content to the 4K screen and get as close to the screen as I do to a computer monitor there is, of course, a difference; but at normal viewing distances both TVs look equally great and I can't see a practical difference. In truth, the only reason I bought a 4K TV is because that's what all the good TVs come with these days, so you might as well. On the other hand, I don't spend a dime extra to pay for 4K content. Honestly, even 720p at normal viewing distance looks super on both sets, being only marginally inferior to 1080p--and only if I'm looking for differences. If you do sit really close (<5 feet) or have a really big screen (80"+), then 4K will just begin to become relevant, but at what I regard to be normal viewing distances, its just a feel-good spec.
@Spoony_Tech To compete with My Nintendo News on headlines, obv.
@rjejr
To answer your question from a previous post, I should be able to add you from list of Wii U friends. It's friend codes, but you can also add from Wii U friends, 3DS friends, mobile friends and people you've played with, I believe.
I enjoyed it on my PS3 with last gen graphics and everything. So I think it will be just fine on switch. 4K ultra hd does nothing to improve the story or actual gameplay.
@ThanosReXXX - I really appreciate you sharing some thoughts and research on the subject. I don’t typically struggle with decision making, but the number of options and rapid evolution of panels has thrown me off my game a bit. I grew up with a 13” Panasonic, so all modern televisions look great to me, and I’m struggling to form an opinion. Thanks again.
@JaxonH Ah ok. I actually found my Friend code and wrote it down meaning to send it to you on here, but now I can't rmemeber where the piece of paper is. Getting old is tough.
@bimmy-lee You're most welcome. Anytime. If you need some more info or help, let me know.
@Moon great transitive reasoning there, champ.
4K TVs are not that expensive. They were practically giving them away last Xmas, so I expect more of the same this year.
I already played the game on the 360 and I don't see any graphical improvements in this video. Maybe Digital Foundry will post a video that shows the difference.
