Yay, stuff!
That case is $149, yikes.
Holy hell...$149??? That's half the price of the Switch itself! It would take a lot more than a free copy of cheap game to get me to buy that haha. I could buy 3 full retail Switch games at Amazon or Best Buy for that. O_o
Wow, that's an expensive bag!
Well I have been wanting a new case, this may be a way to save some money... $149?! Maybe not
The "PowerA Nintendo Switch Everywhere Messenger Bag" is £25 from Argos...
I do think $149 is pretty crazy for a case - but I do own their City Slicker cases for my 3DS, Vita, and now Switch. I can't comment on this specific bag, but the City Slicker cases are way beyond every other case I have ever seen in terms of build quality. I think those cases were $49 for the vita/3DS and $79 for the Switch. Still very expensive, but a little easier to swallow.
What a bargain.
... notices price tag...
Very weird.
Namco can provide a $149 of Switch bag, but CAN'T provide a retail games of Namco Musuem for Switch.
$149!?
I know Waterfield bags are really nice...but....what protection is a soft bag case actually offering Switch? For phones and laptops a padded bag may work because the device itself is either clamshell of has no protruding bits....but a Switch with sticks and joycons at the edges that, while solid, provide a flex/break point if impacted the wrong way....I can't imagine anything but a semi-rigid case for a Switch....and there are so many nice ones that are fairly cheap it's kind of a no brainer.
A free digital copy of a 1980's game pack isn't going to change that line of thought.
Lol free? Not really.
@Shiryu May want to remove that video, profanity is frowned upon.
I suspect that the cost of that Namco Museum download is hiding somewhere in that $149.
@Kalmaro I will let the mods decide.
@Shiryu fair enough.
Aw that's nic-149?!
Noooooope
I've seen these, they are beautiful quality, leather cases and bags...... They are indeed worth every penny...
So...what's good about this deal again?
aren't paying that much for a bloody bag! XD throw the switch in for free then your be talking. ;D
It's probably a good bag (I'd hope) but that price is crazy!
@NEStalgia not that I'd pay that for a Switch case but I'd bet the bag weighs more than the Switch. Even real firm fabric would likely be more than enough to protect the Switch in the case of a drop. After seeing several drop test videos it's easy to see the Switch is actually very well designed and quite tough. This bag is pretty nice but I'd rather invest the money elsewhere.
Not at that price !
@th3r3ds0x Yeah, a heavy bag can offer a lot of protection. I haven't used a waterfield bag, but I have some ThinkTank and Domke camera bags....and as a photo enthusiast I have a collection of bags that would make console expenses look like a bargain I love the soft flexibility of my Domkes and TTs with the inserts removed....but the structure of the camera needs only shock absorbtion. There aren't flex points, and the lens bayonet mount is metal on metal so it's pretty rugged. Switch has a plastic-on-metal rail (which is good, the joycon breaks away under a force leaving the console in tact) With a Switch I'd be more worried about incidental flex than about drop impact with a case, considering the case is likely to be inserted in another bag. Semi rigid keeps the joycons from flexing on the rail and keeps the sticks from being depressed. A soft sleeve bag, even if it's a stiff fabric, allows those flex points.
It's not that it can't be completely functional in most applications, and certainly it's stylish, but I'm just not sure the design is ideal for the application. And a $150 bag should be ideal when a $24.99 case can be more structurally ideal
I'm happy with my RDS deluxe travel case. I've brought my switch to work in it every day since launch and it's held up great. It's pretty compact which makes it easy to shove in your bag.
@NEStalgia definitely not ideal. I'm using the case that came with my Zelda special edition. Probably the only case I'll ever need.
You get what you pay for with this bags. I have had one for 3ds for a while and will have no problem picking one of these up, game included or not.
@chardir exactly!!!
I wouldn't recommend these to anyone. A shame that NL seem to be doing a TechRadar and using sponsored content. These bags are not good. The first pouch was poor... Your joycon analogues will be destroyed. You can't put it in your bag... The middle one is just... Yeah... I could understand if you were Rylan (Clark-Niell, Google him from UK X Factor) ... It's not even girly. Just... Meeeeeh.
And the bag... Wow... $150 for something that is useless... Just buy a messenger bag. And get a hori hardcase.
@nate907
Then you are a fool, sir. An absolute fool.
I have a plants versus zombies bag for the Xbox one that was around upon release. Still going strong. My Logic 3 game gear case from 25 years ago still going strong. And this isn't anecdotal. I know a lot. Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it is good. You're using the Apple principle.
It's so silly. So far my hori case has saved my switch when I fell onto it and my friends survived his Dad stepping on it. Tell me if the cheapest one of these can say they would do the same? I highly doubt it. And the bag you actually need to buy a case for... Their own doesn't even fit. And the bag can't really be used for anything else. Ahahahahaha
Dude, luxury or not I'm just not gonna drop that much on a case. Methinks they may have overestimated how much we cherish our systems. I'm happy with a basic thirty dollar Zelda case for the time being, and a hard one for when I travel.
@NEStalgia I'd say check out some video of the CitySlicker. It is a soft case, yes, but I feel like it probably offers better protection than my el-cheapo semi-regid hori case I had. It has rigid inserts along the side to keep things from smashing down on the joysticks, and there is padding in front of the screen to bulk up that area to be more flush with the sticks. Also, the leather flap and the nylon is pretty heavy duty - I've traveled a ton with my 3DS in a CitySlicker, and quite a bit with my Switch already, and I've not had any issues when tossing it in my backpack or luggage.
That said, I've got zero experience with this specific bag and I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on it either. Just wanted to point out that "soft" doesn't necessarily mean the protection is any worse.
@R4z0rGr1nd3r Again, I've no experience with this specific bag, but your argument of expensive doesn't mean good applies the other way around too - just because something is expensive, doesn't mean it is trash. I have all 3 CitySlicker cases, and they are absolutely very high quality products. Whether or not they are worth it to you, is a personal decision, but they are definitely not garbage products by any stretch.
@NEStalgia Oh, didn't realize you were also into Photo gear =) My wife and I ran a wedding photography business for about 5 years (Then, real work/finishing my MBA/having a baby got in the way) but if you've purchased ThinkTank gear, you know all about expensive bags. To anyone that thinks $150 is expensive (Which, it is, by the way) you could add another $100-$200 just by labeling it a "Photo Bag"... I think I paid close to $500 for my ThinkTank airport security case. It hurts thinking about how overpriced anything photography is =)
@AlexOlney Is that Super Metroid music in the background of the video??
For those already in the market for a high-quality case to hold all their Switch accessories for parties, etc. the MultiPlayer Pro/Namco Museum deal runs through this Friday, August 11.
@roadrunner343 what? You miss my point completely. If you are paying that price you'd want more. Speaking as someone that does buy expensive things. You judge on price if you have money. It's how you keep it. You spend wisely. These bags are very poor for their price. When you can get the same from a designer store (yes, designer. If I could post pics if I could) for a lot less. Debenhams in the UK has them. Then just buy Horizon case and there you go. These are created to capture mugs like you. Nothing to do with being expensive or cheap. I am saying when you pay more you expect better. That is the way it is. To say otherwise is stupid. You pay £1m for a car you expect more Rolls Royce than Honda Civic. [removed]
My points still count.
But sure... Pick up on price when I was talking about... Wait for it...VALUE. duuuh. Something that always applies. This stuff is designed to take advantage of people whom are posers. I mean it's not even fit for purpose. Ahahaha.
@R4z0rGr1nd3r Thanks for the hostile, insulting response. It is very mature of you. Especially considering my reply was in no way attacking you. Simply that Waterfield's cases are extremely high quality. Also "Designed to capture mugs like you" you say? Perhaps you missed the part where I said I did not own one, I have no plans of buying one, and I thought $149 was pretty crazy for a case? But hey, feel free to pick and choose what you read and make irrelevant attacks on arguments I never made.
My point was simply that my experience with Waterfield so far shows they have extremely high quality products - if you can get a better, cheaper bag elsewhere, of course that's what you should do. I'm not familiar with Debenhams or Horizon case, but I know that the City Slicker line is the highest quality case line I've seen so far. Based on that, my guess is this is also a high quality product, even if overpriced.
