We were big fans of Retro City Rampage on WiiWare and then in its DX form on the 3DS eShop, so it's fantastic news that Switch owners will be the first to play its successor - Shakedown Hawaii will arrive on the system in April.
This time around inspiration is taken from the 16-bit era, and as this is the work of Brian Provinciano through Vblank Entertainment, we can expect it to be packed with fun references and parodies.
From the boardroom to the streets, Shakedown Hawaii parodies big business and the white collar crimes that go alongside. Build your empire, monopolize the markets and collaterally re-zone the island's destructible sandbox.
It's not long until we'll be able to take this one on - will you be picking it up?

Awesome, co-op?
This looks like a lot of fun. Was there a co-op mode confirmed -seems perfect for it?
This looks gorgeous. Probably my favorite reveal of the Nindie Reel along with SteamWorld Dig 2, as my actual favorites were known quantities (Yooka-Laylee, Stardew Valley).
I'm like ultra totally mondo stoked for this one brah. Action-packed seaside surf shootin in the bit of 16? Yes Spam! Right up me alley, it is.
@SwitchFanatic didn't see your comment yet while posting, great question btw.
Will be buying this on vita when timed exclusive runs out
This reminds me I should really give the first one another go...
Man this looked great. One of the highlights from the presentation.
Finally something to do when I take my kids to the park. (Just kidding, play with or at least pay attention to your kids while you have the chance.)
Anyway, this could deliver on the promise of Retro City on a much higher level... I'm pretty sure this is the kind of 16-bit game a lot of us kids imagined finding in the back of some rental store on any given weekend. So hopefully the same amount of passion has been poured into Shakedown Hawaii, but maybe with a little more addictive progression structure and an emphasis on compelling individual levels (missions).
I hope that the first game will also release on Swith at some point.
Only 3 or 4 games really interested me in the reveal, this is definitely 1 of them!
My favorite reveal and definitely a day one purchase for me. Looks so dope!
This is heaven. Day one.
My favorite reveal, too, along side Blaster Master Zero. Looks like a lot of fun.
Yes. I've been waiting for the release date of this ever since it was announced. I loved the 3DS game and am still a bit addicted to its freeroam mode. Definite day one pick up for me. Just need to figure out which console I'll want it on.
So hyped for this game!!!!! This fast RMX, YookaLaylee and snipper clippers and Sonic mania and binding of Isaac and ....and... I think that's all I'm excited for as far as indies go.
Oh wait Runner 3!!!
And I think that's it. But still not bad. That's a lot of games I'm excited for. And I'm really picky. Like really picky about games.
Officially my most anticipated game
@Galactus_33
How is Sonic Mania "Nindie" exactly? SEGA doesn't seem like the independent publishing type...
This looks brilliant, is there 2p co-op? If so I'll buy it straight away fot me and my bff.
I like the fact that you can set the foliage on fire, like in Breath of the Wild.
wow this actually looks great. Good thing I got a 256gb microSD... looks like I'm gonna be needing it
Looks pretty dang epic.
@Galactus_33 Sonic Mania isn't an indie
Hopefully the 3DS version is still coming, awesome news nonetheless! This game already oozes charm and poops style. I'm in.
I cannot believe how adult this game is for a Nintendo showcase. It is definately giving me hope that developers will realize parents still want to play adult games on the console. I immediately tweeted Nintendo in hopes they will confirm a bobble hula Amiibo for it.
The palm-tree's remind me a bit of Metal slug.
This looks Gooood!
Great spritework and animation!
Looks like a ton of fun. I especially love the cover art... the overkill is strong!
Man, Switch must truly be epically easy to port to. Took Wii U years to get games that are all coming to Switch in the first year, many in the first few months
Look like a lot of fun. May pick it up if I'm not burnt out of "open-world game" by Zelda.
Going to be awesome to play this one on 3DS. Would've bought it on Wii U, but Mr. Provinciano never really got on with the Wii U development of RCR or Shakedown Hawaii.
This looks awesome
Awesome! I loved Retro City Rampage, so I'll definitely be checking this out. But the music doesn't sound very 16-bit... Vblank Entertainment should have used the C700 VST instrument to compose the soundtrack.
