Indivisible is an action RPG from the makers of the popular Skullgirls, and has just managed to secure over $1.5 million of crowdfunded cash via IndieGoGo.
Boasting a mixture of 3D environments and lush 2D animation, the game features platforming segments and turn-based combat, and is said to be inspired by the likes of Valkyrie Profile and Metroid. The music is to be supplied by none other than Hiroki Kikuta, who crafted the sublime Secret of Mana soundtrack.
Currently slated for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux, developer Lab Zero Games has indicated that it is interested in bringing the game to other platforms - including NX:

...it's like Afterbirth all over again =w=
I think it's reasonable. If they want to get it running at 60fps, it might be really hard to make the game for Wii U while developing for systems which much higher specs.
And I know this is (partially) 2D game but they also can be very demanding. Look at something like Child of Light, which had severely lowered resolution for its Wii U version, or an Xbox platformer Ori and the Blind Forest which was visually stunning and still struggled at the most intesive moments to keep the framerate rock-solid.
I don't know much about this game, but from watching video and reading up on it, I don't believe for one second that it's technically impossible to bring it to Wii U. They should restate it as, "it's technically possible, but we aren't going to do it because it's too hard and costs too much."
Aww, man. That's a shame. But hey, at least they were clear about it right off the bat instead of raising false hopes.
@Beechbone I would actually be kinda surprised about that. Child of Light mostly suffered from lazy porting, and I don't know anything about Ori, but what I can tell you is that the Z-Engine, which was used for Skullgirls before, and is being used for Indivisible as well, is one of the most lightweight engines I've seen in quite some time. My outdated garbage PC (which cannot even run AC III at lowest settings) was able to run Skullgirls just fine, and Indivisible, while most likely going to be even more detailed, doesn't appear to require that much more.
What I wouldn't count out, though, is that the Z-Engine itself could struggle to work with the WiiU architecture...
At least they're not pulling a "Project Cars x Afterbirth".
It's a shame that the Wii U doesn't get more love, but with these kind of sayings about the NX, here's to hoping that nintendo is putting out a really top-of-the-line console! The buzz keeps going for the NX, and if it continues, I think nintendo will have a massive hit with it!
I saw the trailer for this on the PS4...doesn't look too bad, but it's just not one for me as I'm not a big RPG fan, but definitely one that I'd keep in mind if the price goes down (I'm sure it would be a $15 or more title).
@Splatburst Project cars was a dirty shame and the Watch Dogs game was just as sad. Hopefully, companies don't do this on the NX.
What a load of rubbish! Game doesn't look swell anyway, there just using the nx as an excuse now
@JLPick
If that system has enough power.
@Splatburst yep that's one thing I would not like a repeat of. It's one thing to be honest and upfront about your limitations, it's an altogether different one to lie and deceive people. That's why I'm happy to buy Indivisible on my PS4 or Xbox One but why I'll never, ever buy Project CARS or its sequel(s).
They can't pull THAT off on Wii U? This game reminds me of some of the Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia games… on DS. Hell, I could swear that the DS games had more sophisticated animation, collision detection and a higher frame rate than this.
They could have at least refrained from saying something stupid by stating that a Wii U version is "not planned at the present time" instead. They've only made themselves out to be utterly incompetent as developers.
"But will consider an NX version" This seems to be the popular quote now from developers and publishers alike.
In my opinion this has ruined the NX before its even got here as it's going to repeat the the lessons not learned by the WiiU, that is on launch the NX will be full of lazy ports of games at full price that have already been out on the likes of XBone and PS4 for over a year.
If this prediction occurs then I for one won't be purchasing the NX as I'd rather save my money than repeat history.
"505 Games" refused release anymore games on Wii U early 2013.
Wii U can handle this game, but since 505 is involved it wouldn't come to Wii U even if it was a Pong remake.
I guess I'll just get this on PC then. Game looks fantastic, and I can certainly see how the game might be a bit too demanding to run on Wii U at the same quality as other versions. And, well, I'm just glad this game got funded in the first place!
@sillygostly The best animation a game could pull off on the original DS was in Ghost Trick. Indivisible is leagues beyond that, from what I can tell. Sure, they could make a Wii U version, but it would be a gimped version of what their vision is for the game on PC / PS4. And after what happened with Watch_Dogs, I'd rather have them focus on making their game the best it can be on their target systems.
I'm calling this false. First, more details other than "it can't* just means they are too lazy. Second, if Bayonetta 2, a game where there is a lot going on and their is literally no slow-down, pretty much shows the Wii U is quite a powerful console. I'm sure the Wii U can easily handle this game.
Most likely they don't want to take advantage of the Wii U gamepad.
I know most is upset however can we not use any foul language guys and gals?
I'll just accept that us Nintendo fans will never get it on a Nintendo console and leave it at that. Honestly, I'm used to us not getting stuff.
I'm surprised the game got funded since it was very close to failing so congrats on that.
Lots of people claiming they know bether then an experienced developer lol. "But.. but it looks like.." That's not how it works. I have zero development knowledge and even i know that.
They should just admit they don't think it's worth the investment. How do all these 2D-developers get away with these poor excuses?
Don't be butt hurt guys.
The Wii U has weird hardware architecture compare to other plateform, and it's also not that powerfull So because Indivisible is running on a proprietary engine they would have to port the engine to the plateform. And let's be real, because of the weak install base and more than gloomy futur, the Wii U is not worth the investissement.
"Not technically possible" just means they don't want to put the effort into coding for a different type of hardware. Not unreasonable, but I wish they wouldn't word it like the Wii u is too weak to run the game or something. It's perfectly capable, it's just extra unwanted work for them to make the changes and they should just say so.
Bummer, though, I would have backed it if it were on Wii U. I have none of the platforms it is headed to...So I didn't bother to back it.
I don't see where they mentioned the system's power, instead they said it was technically impossible which could mean they simply can't afford to port it to the wii u and it's architecture, which could also explain why they might consider a nx release. It might be the same architecture as the others, and thus cheaper
I don't buy this excuse for a second.
If Xenoblade Chronicles X can run fine on the Wii U, a 2d game can run fine on the Wii U.
Guess which one of these developers is getting my money.
I think everyone needs to calm down. Technically the game CAN run on the Wii U. What it CAN'T do is run optimally on Wii U. And for an action RPG that has a platforming gameplay and battle system that relies heavily on timing, every frame counts. Unfortunately, as much as I hate to say this, power wise the Wii U would have trouble keeping the game going at a solid 60fps. Remember it's BARELY more powerful then a PS3 and Lab Zero/505 Games are more of PC developer then a console one so they wouldn't now how to get the best out of the simple architect that is the Wii U. There's more going on then just running 2D animation. There's a whole process that goes on while a game is running and gamers, understandably, forget that.
@Uzuki Thank you for mentioning that to everyone.
The game looks great, the news is bad but I think if Xenoblade was running at a solid 60, then we could have a point. The system is powerful but sadly not powerful enough. This generation of gaming has been underpowered in general. Nintendo wanted to make a system that was powerful and power efficient. Some sacrifices had to be made, though I am sure Nintendo can make a PS4 like system with similar power consumption to the WiiU.
Sigh... surely with enough work and enthusiasm it can be on all current platforms including the 3DS. It doesn't mean it should be on all platforms but I just hate this 'we can't do it' attitude... just be honest!
@Usuki Heh, makes pretty good sense now that you mention it. Dont know why they cant say that themselves or more details or something....whatever I guess. And those people who does the usual "no wiiu, no money for u."deal just because its not wiiu bound may be doing yourselves a disservice. Since that demo was fantastic.
I really hope Nintendo is seeing these kinds of comments and that they actually listen to make a system compatible with current gen and not last gen.
I don't believe them when they say they can't make it on the Wii U. Look at Xenoblade Chronicles X - and then look at this game. Then think about that whole "I can't do it" thing. No way, Jose.
Looks possible to me. But, considering they have 5 other versions to work on, it's understandable they don't want to put a ton of time and money trying to get the game running on weaker and stranger harder.
Only negative for them is that they have to suffer from harsh comments claiming laziness from your typical entitled Nintendo fan whose desperate for vidya games on their system.
NX will probably have launched by the time this game is finished, so pointless to put it on the Wii U. Plus even once finished, it takes time to do the port, especially if the engine hasn't been ported to Wii U before. There'd also be no certainty it'd perform up to the same standard as other versions.
I think devs come out the "It's technically impossible" line as a sort of cover-all reason. It's just way too difficult to fully explain this stuff (particularly on twitter!), and lot of technical details are covered by NDA's anyway. I wouldn't read too much into that.
The game is set to release in 2018 at the ABSOLUTE least. The Wii u would be lucky to survive past 2017 at this rate. This doesn't account for the inevitable Murphy's law delays that they themselves admit are possible. Optimizing their game for the relatively weak Wii u would just unnecessarily delay the release longer for a possibly dead console.
I'll make sure not to buy it if it comes to NX. How insulting to us. Just say it. "We don't think a Wii U version would be profitable."
I'm curious if they even tried running it on the Wii U. With that said, I think the Wii U is only a 32bit system. Whereas the PS4 is a 64bit one. That makes a big difference if you want to design games in 64bit. Since you can't run 64bit software on a 32bit system.
@Rockmin
Yes because the above game looks sooo demanding.
The answer is, the game would require more resources to start development for Wii U, and since Wii U has different architecture to the more PC-like One and PS4, they decided to to skip out on a version that would require more resources. And then there is that whole thing about NX coming out. Why waste money on developing for a Wii U version?
It seems like the easy answer now-a-days is "Wii U can't handle it." Which is understandable for those big AAA games, but not small titles like this.
In the guy's defense: "technically not possible," doesn't necessarily mean it has to do with the Wii U being under-powered.
Technically as in the tech specs (adjective) or technically as time, resources, and knowledge (adverb)?
In any case games like this takes years to make. I would'n't be surprised if by the time this game comes out, the next gen consoles are out. That includes Sony and Microsoft next gen.
I would probably get it on Steam anyways since my laptop can handle my Steam games well and a lot of games go on sale often. Congrats to them reaching their Crowdfunding goal, it looked like it was gonna fail considering the amount of money was needed to fund this.
@SanderEvers But dev kits have been sent out, maybe they got to be shown one?
People seem to be really upset about someone insinuating that their precious Wii U might be a bit underpowered at this point. Though I do hope Nintendo sees these kinds of comments from devs and decide to make the NX easier to port to.
This game is really fun though, and I'll certainly be picking it up when it launches.
If Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night can manage a Wii U version I guess these guys are just too lazy to try to port it to the Wii U because it work differently than other systems. At least Igarashi made the effort to work on a Wii U version instead of being lazy like them.
@Smash_kirby What open world game has been able to run at a steady 60 frames per second? Honestly, Fallout 4 on my PS4 doesn't look all that great and the framerate still frequently dips into the low 20's pretty much at random. At least Xenoblade Chronicles X is able to hold a rock solid 30 frames per second while flying at 60+ miles per hour.
The Wii U could definitely run this game but maybe the architecture is too different for them to get this game out on time? Or if they simply lack the manpower to do so; remember, technical reasons does not necessarily equate to lack of power.
Seems to me that many of these devs just want to brute-force ports to other platforms now, so they expect far more power to be available than is actually required to compensate for their lack of ability to optimize.
But as others pointed out, this is due in 2018, where the NX will be available, so it sounds to me they are just giving an excuse because at that time, Wii U will have already left the building.
Ahhhh!! WANT!!
Impossible is just a word people use to make themselves feel better when they give up.
But seriously, their development is probably just going to rely on an x86 architecture SDK. (Which Wii U lacks, and everything else has) NX may have ARM, which would make it more attractive. They probably just have no interest in learning how to utilize any specialized SDK. (Including Wii U's)
@Discostew Yeah, many developers have given up on what is now the almost lost art of platform specific optimization. It used to be the norm, and now it is greatly resisted. Nintendo is pretty much the final bastion of it, and that may fall as well if NX has an ARM (likely) or x86 (unlikely) architecture.
I backed this game and definitely getting it on PC but if they make an NX version I'll for sure be getting it since I want to support Lab Zero and Nintendo indies.
@Kaze_Memaryu Of course I'm not developing the game, so I'm just guessing. Maybe it's because Skullgirls only had to handle one small area at a time, and Indivisible, from what I see, is a game where you travel through the levels and encounter many various enemies along the way? It's a bit of a shame, but it's good they are open to bringing the game to Nintendo platform at all.
@Luffymcduck I hope it does! I hope it becomes nintendo's biggest console to date!!!! Here's hoping that the NX will be huge!
@ikki5 current gen that its using 3 year old , yeah i hope nintendo goes even better than that, ps4/xb1 are extremely dissapointing in terms of raw power
I'm just glad this game got funded, regardless of what platforms it ends up on.
forgive my capitals but I don't want this to go unnoticed. WHY IS THIS GAME NOT POSSIBLE ON WII U. PLEASE GIVE A GOOD TECHNICAL EXPLANATION HOW IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. OR GIVE A AN EXPLANATION HOW ITS NOT POLITICALLY POSSIBLE. US WII U OWNERS DESERVE A PROPPER EXPLANATION. WHATEVER THE EXPLANATION IS AS LONG AS ITS THE TRUTH.
hoooo boy these comments are painful to read
