Castlevania is a classic franchise, and we're not simply talking about the entries from the NES and SNES era. It's easy to look at the current status of the series and bemoan the loss of the 'good old days', but the IP was still receiving wonderful releases not so many years ago. The six games across GBA and DS are particular examples of gems that have graced Nintendo hardware, for example.

It was also a series that, for a time, was prominent on Nintendo hardware. That may have changed, but it's interesting to see how the franchise has evolved; from the adventure action platforming that lasted for a couple of decades, right through to attempts at bringing the series into 3D worlds.

The Game Theorists channel has posted a neat history of the franchise that's well worth a watch for those that love the series. With Konami behaving somewhat erratically of late it's unknown when Castlevania will return, or in what form, so looking back may be the only option we have.
