An update for the Wii U’s nifty YouTube application has been issued. While the interface remains the same, a scrolling sound effect has now been added to enhance the browsing experience. The colour of the application's launch icon has also been changed to red.
To receive the update, simply open the app from the Wii U HOME Menu.
Tell us in the comments if you spot any other changes, and also let us know what future updates you would like to see issued for the Wii U YouTube application.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for heads up!

I've been waiting for this.
It is a clunky app.. i use the browser for utube instead. I wish they would streamline the entire interface!
@Igetin Does that work with playlists, too?
@Igetin Yes it does work with playlists.
Reminds me I have to delete it asap.
The browser owns this rubbish.
The nice thing about using the Youtube app rather than the superior browser version is do use a phone to remotely control the playback.
I miss the cool 360 degree menu which was removed long time ago.
I use the Wii U Browser between three to six hours a day watching Youtube videos. You could have six tabs with one being the Subscription box and five being videos ready to be played. Once one video is played, I just go back to my first tab and "Open a New Tab" for another video. You could play the videos in 720p and even speed up the video by factors of 0.25, 0.5, 1.25, 1.5, or 2.0.
Cons: For some reason, it pauses each time I load a page after about 10 seconds. It gets annoying. Also, the video sometimes lags on 720p and needs to buffer. That is only sometimes, though. The last issue is that the Like button doesn't always seem to work, so I would need to refresh the tab and press "Like" again.
Was an update really needed? It seems a bit too minuscule to warrant the fuss.
The app is great and the update is a bit uncanny with the sounds it has
i don't use the youtube app, i just use the browser because I find it is so much more friendly than the app.
Still extremely choppy. I don't know why they can't get the frame rate to work properly.watching videos and the Wii U browser works better
It's useless, it made sense on the PS3 as that browser was crap so even the app was good by comparison, but this is just a waste of space. Plus on the browser you can skip ads. I don't know if you can do that on the app.
I actually watched a Youtube vid yesterday when I noticed the app had changed. Which, being the cynical person that I am, I always believe the main reason for these updates is to get people to use the apps more. On my tablet Youtube and Facebook apps update all the time. Seems like once a week at least.
I watched Seth Rogen and Franco play a Freaks and Geeks game, very nerdy nostalgia but fun.

Dom't understand people's problems with this app in the slightest. It has become my main way of watching youtube. The only thing missing is the commenting section. It's definitly 1000 times more convinient than the browser.
I can also skip ads and never had any problems with the framerate.
I noticed the update but have yet to start it again. The only headache I get from the app is the search function, but all of the video streaming apps seem to have serious issues when attempting to search.
Now if Netflix will just finally update their app to put profiles on it I can be at peace.
I use the Wii U browser for YouTube,i think its better,I don't like the app...
Why don't they update the UI to match the Android version anyway? The 3DS version is close to doing that, so why not do the same for Wii U?
The Wii U Youtube app is trash. Whoa, you added sound effects to make it more annoying while it's still terrible to navigate with!
Also the Wii U Browser has had Youtube videos capped at 720p for about a year now. I don't know what's going on with that or who's fault that is, Nintendo's or Youtube's.
I've always used the app... til now. Playback wasn't smooth this evening after the update, so I'll try out the browser version if everyone says it's better.
I think the main difference between the browser and app, is screen resolution. I think the app can run content in 1080p, while the browser is 720p. I haven't had any problems with the app, except the annoying activate device that happens after updates.
The YT app blows imo. I deleted it a long time ago.
The html5 web browser works flawless.
The 3DS, on the other hand, sucks donkey (both the incompatible browser and YT app). Still, I've somehow logged over 1500 hours on that craptastic 3DS browser thingy. Confession; I'm using 3DS browser right now, for toilet surfing...
I'm STILL waiting on the YouTube app and Web Browser to run videos in 60fps.
The UI now features beautiful aesthetics and runs very smoothly but where is the HD option? If Nintendo can run a web browser with 10 tabs open all while streaming 720p video it is clear the app is very unoptimised.
Edit new Youtube App switched from rubbish HQ to excellent HD video automatically when watching last night - it perhaps automatically selects the quality of playback - still I would like the option to force 720p as I never have any issue running HD video.
