We're a day later than normal, but it's time for our summary of last week's Super Smash Bros. screens. The latest collection from Masahiro Sakurai showed some new items, improved detail on others, while also revealing what's sure to be a popular trophy among keen Wii U gamers.
Once again the offerings on the Director's Room Miiverse community included some additional images beyond the standard one a day; there's also a focus on the Wii U version, rather than the closer 3DS equivalent.

For a second there I was like "whoa! EVERYONE voted for bullet bill!?" lol
I'm still holding out for either Wonderful 101 assist trophy or playable.
Would have been Wonder Red if he was playable, but zipping across the screen as Bullet Bill with that smoke trail out the back takes it for me.

@kingston589 I highly doubt they would announce Wonder Red or any character as a trophy first before as a playable character. I think that several Wonderful 101 characters will act as a single Assist Trophy preforming some of the team attacks like Unite Fist, Unite Gun and Unite Sword.

Going with Dragoon here. DKhas not learned from the previous game how destructive that thing is.
Plus the redesigned target screen makes it appear more powerful.
Voted for the DK being targeted one. Can't help but admire his positiveness in the face of certain annihilation.

Including the Wonderful 101 in some playable form would have been the ultimate form of marketing for that game! I'm still hoping for Shulk and Lucina but I can't imagine we will be getting too many franchises debuting in playable form. Particularly those made by second and third parties.
Any chances of a Platinum character (Bayonetta) making it then? I wouldn't have considered possible up until now.

Wonder Red should have been playable. I haven't played The Wonderful 101, but the design is nice and it seems like he would have been a nice fit for the game. Anyway, I voted for Megaman and Bullet Bill, lol Bullet bill reminds me of a guy with a Napolean complex in that picture.

Unfortunately, W101 characters being playable would definitely not have been the ultimate marketing. I loved the game. One of the best of 2013, easily... but if you've taken a gander at the sales numbers, you'll understand why Wonder Red wouldn't have had much of an impact for advertising. Dedicated Nintendo fans like myself would have been freaking out over it though, that's for sure!

What I was saying is that including Wonder Red or the like in Smash Bros would do wonders for the visibility of the 101! I first heard about Earthbound and Fire Emblem through smash bros as I'm sure many others were. Far more people would take notice of the series if they were introduced to it in this way.

OH, gotchya... right! Ya, it would. It really, really would. I thought for sure they'd have included him for that very reason. Perhaps he is included still. It's possible to still have him as a trophy and be playable. Little less likely but hey, it could happen! COULD just be Sakurai trolling us (like with Zero Suit Samus in that Direct- what a clown huh...)
@JaxonH Maybe more along the lines of Toon Link in the spirit train map? The Zero Suit Samus was an instant reversal so I wouldn't get your hopes too high I'm afraid.
@AJWolfTill I agree. I feel that game needs some SERIOUS exposure! I love W101 and think everyone with a Wii U who loves action needs to put it in their library... It looks beautiful too!

Even as only via trophies, the game will get some extra exposure. Just obviously not as big as if WR was playable.
The Donkey Kong pic reminds me of Batman '89, when Joker stands in place, taunting Batman as he zooms in, targeting him in the Batwing! For Kirby's sake, I hope it ends better than it did for Batsy, as Joker had that FRIGGIN HAND CANNON on him! Except, I can't see anywhere that DK has to hide a coconut cannon to take the Dragoon down!

I chose the Wonder Red trophy.
Mega Man for me, because he still looks, just...so unreal in the Wii U version. (...meaning the graphics, lol)
@Xtremetdifan The 6th May pic is of the 3DS version. I just hope to hear how they are going to handle download play for friends who don't own the game...Yet.
What might be a smart move (not a nice one but smart), would be to have someone like Will Wedgewood over here to be DLC, along with other characters fans want along the way. W101 fans like my self would love anyone off the team to be playable, at this point in development it seems highly unlikely any of them would be In an initial roster. A good plan, though, would be a dlc roadmap with characters and stages they either didn't have time for or didn't think enough fans would care for it (the later seems strange since they have a precedent for including cult favorites and little known characters, but whatever).
This would help keep the game community alive and generate even more money with the money printing franchise that is Smash Bros. and allow some characters that slipped through the cracks a second shot.
The Bullet Bill with Mega Man pic is my favorite because it reminds me of the Bullet Bill clones from the first Mega Man game.
@PrincessEevee9 It's not about what you want, though. The Wonderful 101 is a Nintendo IP, while Viewtiful Joe is Capcom.
