During Nintendo's 3DS press conference yesterday, one game that caught our eye was Square Enix's upcoming JRPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, set for release in 2012. The name may not sound like much, but now you can glimpse gameplay footage in the trailer below.
We previously announced that the title is a classic-style JRPG featuring Akihiko Yoshida characters; we've now learned that it will support augmented reality, a downloadable application reading cards presumably included with the game that have a girl get up, walk around and fall through the floor. You can view a few shots below and head to Siliconera for shots of the entire sequence.
There's no confirmation that this will head to the West, but hopefully we'll see this one outside of Japan. How do you think the game looks so far?

...wow... AWESOME!!!!
I'm sorry, but WORST NAME EVER. Even if it's in context of the game, it makes no sense to call a game Bravely Default. Bile aside, it could be good. But was anyone else thinking it was going to be Final Fantasy related in the beginning?
Will this be banned in Austrailia like DoA:D was? I think yes
looks good to me, i hope this gets localized.
don't make me start a petition nintendo >:[ i'll make one damn it! lol
this looks awesome so far. great music and art.
@5: Don't worry, before it ships overseas, Nintendo will change it to Tingle: Flying Fairy.
Sigh. If a name isn’t streamline and made for the mindless consumer it is automatically torn apart by the public. You don’t argue with an artist’s choice for a title of their work and you shouldn’t berate game makers on their choices. It is their work and their idea; they can do what they want. Have some class and view the name as unique or different. View it as challenging the norm of titled merchandise which is strongly rooted in an artistic expression.
I like what I'm seein' here! Kind of looks like if Four Heroes of Light had been a little darker and with better graphics. I could go for this.
Defaulting ain't brave.

...but I don't mind, absurd titles are fine by me.
I think we can all agree that this title will never see Western release with its Japanese name intact.
I want this so bad....there's no way the name will stick if it moves West though.
Strongly rooted in an artistic expression? How about strongly rooted in a language that didn't translate smoothly into an English title. Needs a change to make more sense, this was not an artistic choice, just a bad marketing choice.
could easily have translated to "bravely letting go", or "Majestic fallen Wings" or something. The English part of these kind of titles isn't taken too seriously until a localisation happens. No big deal, there, though.
Looks like an awesome game, too. Doesn't look all that "RPG", either, which is all the better for my taste.
Awesome!
"Take a Look at Square Enix's Upcoming 3DS JRPG" When will we stop using the term JRPG? Having the name of the country where a game is made in it's genre abbreviation doesn't make sense to me. How about just Role-Playing Game, you don't hear people saying WFPS do you? Having a distinction between Western and Japanese is totally unnecessary, and we've never needed it for the past 20 years.
The game looks good though. I wonder when Square-Enix is going to make a game for a Nintendo platform that doesn't have Chibi-style characters??
@Neram: JRPG means Japanese style RPG. There's a distinctive difference between Japanese and Western style RPGs, and a western developer could make a JRPG (although certain people might make a big deal about it). What you're saying is almost exactly like saying that "anime" shouldn't be called "anime," it should just be called "cartoons."
As if the name wasn't awesome enough!
I really hope that this game gets a world-wide release. And for Europe, just Japanese with English subtitles is great... so no need to translate into five languages! Just release it! Even in France, Italy, Germany and Spain people can understand English... so release this great game as soon as possible!
0-0 The world overview and fighting sprites reminds me of Ni no Kuni!! (Still want's Level 5 to localize it!!!)
I think the name is a political call on the U.S. to step forward, be brave, and default on its debt!
@15 yea i know what you mean an rpg is an rpg wherever it comes from.not that it matters anyway long as we get to play them
A Squeenix game that looks awesome, and with hot, stripper boots-wearing fairy? WIN! More likely to get this than Guitar Hero Final Fantasy! If it makes it to NA, that is. And Chrono Trigger was a goofy name too, so I'm not bothered!
This game looks nice. I will be buying if it comes out in the US.
I think Squeenix is just trying to top their personal best of Infinite Undiscovery for most ridiculous title for a game.
I'm gonna buy this if it comes out west. Gotta support Square Enix whenever they make anything that isn't Final Fantasy. ... and whenever they make anything that is Final Fantasy.
That caption photo is too suggestive. I'm not buying this classless game.
The name may not be that good but the game itself looks really good, so I hope it makes it to the west
Who cares about the name, if we don't get this released in Europe, I'll cry!
I actually like the title. Sounds pleasant.
I really don't want to get my hopes up for this coming to the US after the whole Last Story/Xenoblade/Pandora's Tower ordeal. But...I want it
Shout out to all NLifers that girl in the picture is claimed as mine. She is now my 93rd wife. Wish us a long and prosperous marriage
ripped off music from Kitaro!

BTW, if you havnt seen this movie, its pretty epic... Oliver Stone so, pretty propaganda-ish.. but well done. With Tommy Lee Jones.. but he doesn't show up til like half way into the movie.. and its very very depressing.. so, if you dont like depressing movies, stay away.. but the music is grand. aint it? too bad Square is running out of ideas and has to steal music now.
Looks very good! Also: YEAH for the girl!
yes.
Nice graphics, sexy legs, true to form JRPG, sweet music AND a completely retarded name?
BRING IT TO THE WEST!!!
This game had a very classical Final Fantasy, Seiken Densetsu, and Legend of Zelda feel to it. Might check it out if it's release in our side of the world.
I first thought this would be a sequel to FF: 4 Heroes of Light when i saw it in the conference. The trailer looks promising and the title as well as the girl make me curious about the story of the game.
Hope it lives up to our expectations and comes to the entire West.
Squeenix hasn't released a good game since Kingdom Hearts 2... Maybe this one is going to chance it...? Of course I'm joking, Square has completely lost their ability to make good games, so this one's going to suck as well.
Lovin the artstyle..
Not impressed by the trailer. Will still keep an eye out, however, since I like RPGs.
