The Japanese get very passionate about their video game series, that's why you see so many sequels with developers staying loyal to a specific series of game. Dragon Quest is a huge deal in Japan, much like Final Fantasy - infact any Square series.
After much speculation over what console the series will continue on, perhaps PS3? perhaps Wii? It's now been announced that Dragon Quest IX will be exclusively available on the DS.
"Square Enix held a press conference in Tokyo today to announce the next entry in the main Dragon Quest series. In a surprise move, Japan's most popular series will continue not on the PS3 or the Wii, as many had expected. Instead, Square Enix will be bringing the game to the DS.
The full name of Dragon Quest 9 is Dragon Quest 9: Hoshizora no Mamoribito. The surname can be translated to "Protectors of the sky."
Level 5 will be handling development on the game. The hot-shot development studio headed up development on Dragon Quest 8, before turning to a couple of projects for Sony. On the DS, the studio is currently working on Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village, to be self-published early next year."
When you think about it, it actually makes sense. At the rate DS systems are selling, Square would be foolish to ignore it. Although this news doesn't directly affect Wii, its great to see Square on good terms with Nintendo, after all they'll have other games console bound.

Yeah, lately I've started to really like RPG's on handhelds, it's fun to be able to take a plunge into an epic story wherever you go.
So I am hoping this will be a good game to add to my collection.
