Update: While this initially sold out like hotcakes, many retailers have seen restocks recently. Pick one up while you can!
Alongside the release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Nintendo released a new edition of the Switch which launched on 12th February 2021. As you can see above, the Nintendo Switch – Mario Red & Blue Edition sports a two-tone colour scheme reminiscent of the mascot plumber's signature work clothes.
Contained in this brand new Switch bundle is all the standard gubbins you get with a new Switch console, and a couple of extras, too. In addition to a red Switch and dock, plus a red pair of Joy-Con with blue straps (well, the straps themselves are red and white with a little yellow button) and a blue Joy-Con grip, you'll also get a Mario Red & Blue Edition carrying case (with a little yellow zip) and a screen protector to keep your new console in tip-top condition.
It's a fetching design, and it's the first time the regular Switch itself (not just the dock) has been available in anything other than boring black. If this new livery proves to be even half as popular as the special edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch, these will likely disappear off shelves fast. To help you avoid disappointment should you find the new Mario Switch as irresistible as we do, we've collected below the best places to buy the Mario Red and Blue Switch that we can find in the UK and US. Act quickly if you want one, as these appear to be selling out quickly.

Yay...grabbed one!! I was surprised it is the normal price..I thought it would be more, with the case and being a special edition. I will love this!
I think it's absolutely hideous but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder
I find it funny that the the bundle with Super Mario 3D world is actually a penny more expensive than ordering it all separately because they put some joy-con stick covers in the mix.
I’ll wait before I leap as the pro could be just around the corner!
@Guitario I agree. Just ugh.
Anyone know how long till these are available at other retailers? I havent got £330 spare, want to get on credit
I like it, but not sure I could live with it.
@Guitario Agree,some people have very strange taste!
Seems weird that Nintendo barely mentioned it. They sent out one tweet 🤔
I don't plan to get it, but it'd also be nice to see some real photos, not just mockups. With such bold colors, it may look a bit different in real life.
Oh my god it looks so good. I wish I could afford to get it, lol
@Prizm It's because the stock will be so limited it will make the PS5 situation look plentiful. Same reason they don't overly advertise new amiibo, it's just a limited run situation.
Plot twist. It's-not-quite-a-me, Mario!
Sad this is not available in other countries to pre order. And the price will be a lot higher when it is.
Got one console and game pack.
Can’t wait for February now.
Also with steel book.
Much better value than GAME UK.
@JordyFI usually they will release special consoles in other countries at a different date. Might not get a chance to pre-order it if they do release it where you live, but you might still get it in stores.
If anyone in another country needs one please let me know and I'll gladly send it,(as long as you pay for the console and shipping cost of course)
This is where Nintendo has me by the short and curlies... If I knew this was just one of many colour variants hitting the market then I would think 'Hmm, red's cool... maybe' but because it's basically a limited 35th anniversary release, with no sign of any other colours coming, it's calling me. It's calling me HARD.
That steelbook puts the Korean one to shame.
@Toads-Friend wait from where?! The UK one?
@Redfield42 yes 😊
Lucky! I live in the US area and really desperately wanting this before it sells out 😞
@Toads-Friend 🙋🏼♂️
Now I wonder of these joycons will drift 🤔
Order now @ Fisher-Price.com
@GamerDad66 isn’t it that a store that sells toys for little kids?
@Toads-Friend I definitely want one and I'm afraid that the U.S won't get this bundle. Any idea how much it might be to ship this? And how do I know you are a honest person that wouldn't rip me off? I mean no offense, I am completely serious about this.
@Jlt667 hi.. No offence taken, I would ask the same. No way to know I'm afraid other than I have Nintendo friends worldwide that I trade with and am very honest. But its a gamble of course. Maybe wait til it turns up on ebay? Target may offer it, they usually have good bonuses
Ahhh! When will they put up US preorders? I’m anxiously checking all day! 🤣🤣
I bet 2 weeks after this launches the Switch Pro will be announced. Lol.
@BongoBongo123 bro Nintendo just announced another new switch and it looks so good
@Redfield42
Lol, the monster hunter one? Yh looks good. I'm not a massive monster hunter fan though. I've played the rise demo an seems cool, but haven't ever really gotten into monster hunter. The Mario red/blue one looks good though
Great design for the kids who want a Switch.
It doesn’t even have any Mario branding/images, such a rubbish edition. Also they should start thinking about a next-generation Switch console
How is Nintendo of America's online store already sold out? Don't they have access to the mother lode? Having such short supply on hand is tantamount to hanging a sign on the door reading "Scalp me!".
Where are any logos or pictures? All it is, is colours! Could be the Spider Man edition or even the special Crystal Palace edition! Saves me money though.
That’s one ugly Switch. I have the AC edition and that One is, by far, the most beautiful Switch en n the planet. I don’t think they will ever release a more beautiful model.
This has to be one of the best variants of the Nintendo Switch I have seen yet, matching only the Animal Crossing one in my eyes. If I had extra cash laying around I would probably get it simply because I am still using the older sku with a lower battery life. No luck as it happens right now though.
too many versions. l just really like that case even though it might not hold many games.
The only things blue about it are the joy-con grip and the joy-con rails. It's literally all red. The console, the joy-con, and the dock. Red red red
@Guitario Finally, a Nintendolife user with taste
Good god that combination of colors is ugly.
@Guitario don’t buy one then kiddo
@E1000 they're not doing a switch pro it's going to be a switch 2 people need to get off that idea. They didn't even want to take a pass by the chance that they could splinter the user base, when your system is selling this well you don't make another version of it to confuse people.
Personally i think it looks like a happy meal toy but im sure lots of people will love it.
dont feed the ebay scalpers people lol. ive already seen on the ebay AU store that its being sold for AU$550 or more & theres already even more prices higher than this from the scalpers. dont get caught out by them. they are low life scums & already raging cause their not happy with how the media seems them & the scalpers works lols
@Lord I’ll wait before I leap as the pro could be just around the corner!
People have been saying that for 3 years. You guys need to quit with this Pro nonsense.
Here's a crazy idea.. find an online shop that sells custom shells for your Switch, and replace the outer shells to be the color your want, or even make them exactly the colors of this edition, and save yourself HUNDREDS of dollars.
A buddy of mine just bought this system and he is on cloud 9. Im just waiting on him to come down so I can whip him at mario kart.
While I'd love to grab one of these (they are in stock at Target one town over) I'll be saving that $300 and putting it towards the Pro, whenever that happens.
@E1000

@E1000 The Switch Pro isn't happening. Or at least not one with exclusive games.
@Jokerwolf Nintendo never did a "2" version of their consoles. It's not going to be a "Switch 2" just as much as it's not going to be a "Switch Pro". Next gen Nintendo console will have a new name, it will be similar to the Switch, but different. At least different enough that you can tell it's a new console. (See the whole Wii U problem)
The "Switch Pro" everyone now talks about will be called Switch 4K or Switch UHD. And that will be the only real difference, it runs the same games at upscaled 4K (docked). In the end it will be very similar to the XBOX ONE S, which runs games natively (up to) 1080p but it scales the image up to 4K. It will not be like the Series X or S for that matter, and of course not comparable to the PS4 or PS5.
They might also call it "Switch Deluxe" if the console itself has a better screen and ran the games up to 1080p (handheld). But it would also need a bigger battery for that.
On topic: I purchased the Mario Nintendo Switch, and it looks really cool. (and red)
Argos in UK still have some in stock if anyone still needs one. It is beautiful
How many people read the sub header and put on marios voice in their head whilst reading it?
@sanderev Switch 2 is just a placeholder I used, Whatever it is I am going to bet there will not be a more powerful base handheld switch but a new addition to their family of Switches if they do anything and it will probably be a non-portable console only Switch that is more capable resolution wise before they move to next gen which is probably only a few years away. Nintendo has no choice but to release new generations of their platforms before games start becoming impossible to port without huge cutbacks which just won't be worth it. 3rd party is very important and all the generations with the most 3rd party support sold the most systems and games.
Just scored it yesterday at Gamestop! Going in the vault for the next 15-20 years lol
@Jokerwolf I don't think Nintendo will ever do a non-portable Switch. It wouldn't sell AT ALL in Japan. (See PlayStation TV) And oversees, well, I wouldn't buy a non-portable Switch. I really don't see the advantage, it wouldn't get exclusive games and I play around 99% handheld.
The Switch lite exists because Japan is mainly a handheld / mobile gaming market. Which the Lite actually encapsulates perfectly. It's smaller and lighter than a normal Switch so it's more portable. Also it's better for children.
The Switch Pro would be either a normal Switch with an upgraded dock that does 4K upscaling built in (is possible but would be quite expensive to over USB-C 3.0, the dock would be around the price of a Switch lite) or an upgraded Switch that does 4K output (DLSS) to an updated dock with HDMI 2.1.
@sanderev A Console only version of the Switch would be a great idea, plus Nintendo would have their fabled 3 pillars they always toted, Console, Handheld and Hybrid. Nintendo doesn't give a poo about Japan when making a consideration like that as the Switch market is much bigger in other territories where consoles are preferred. Nintendo also won't make a more expensive system than the base Switch as they always try and have they console the cheapest option as well, and dropping the screen and dock accounts for over 100$ of product cost if not more which they would use to add a more capable Tegra family chipset to do 4k.
@Jokerwolf 80% of all Switch owners play mostly handheld. Also I already said I would absolutely never buy a docked only Switch. It wouldn't have exclusive games. Just the same games upscaled to 4K, and ANY 4K capable TV can do that. A docked only Switch would be DOA, like the PlayStation TV.
And Nintendo is 100% after doing what works in Japan. It's the whole reason the Switch lite exists.
Also there is no Tegra chipset that can run any Switch game at native 4K. A 4K DLSS upscaler is the best we will EVER get in a Switch console.
For comparison, if you want to game at 4K60 on a PC you will need a RTX 3080 or better. And for one RTX 3080 (MSRP) you can easily buy 2 Switches.
@sanderev Oh I know about the tech side of things but the Xavier chipset and Beyond can definitely do DLSS and it would be within price range if they drop the screen and dock. all that I'm saying is there is quite a huge amount of people who play docked only I know some personally.what I'm trying to tell you is if they try to put dlss in a new switch model while keeping it hybrid it's going to be over $200 more than what it is now Nintendo doesn't like the price their stuff more than their competition.
@Jokerwolf Actually the current chip in the 2019 Switch can already do DLSS. And it does, for instance all games will output 1080p to TV. And DLSS 2.0 (the newer 4K stuff) would be a simple revision of that chip. I think a DLSS Switch (with nothing else changed) would be around € 400, or € 450 if they would add an OLED screen to it.
Also the LCD screen, battery and dock aren't the most expensive parts of the Switch. Those are the SoC and the bundled Joy-Con. A TV only Switch without a screen / battery / dock would be around € 50 cheaper. It wouldn't really make a huge difference.
@sanderev that's still hella pricey, the North American and Canadian price would be absurd nobody would buy it here lol.
@Jokerwolf People buy PS5 and XBOX Series X, both would still be more expensive. (499)
@sanderev I mean nobody can get them now but I guess so lol. The one main advantage they have though is that they're not going to get dropped in a toilet or their screens going to shatter because you dropped it or your kid dropped it or get jammed in the dock backwards or something stupid like that. As we probably both know people are very dumb.
“the first time the regular Switch itself (not just the dock) has been available in anything other than boring black” has everyone forgot there was a Nintendo Labo themed Switch that came in a cardboard colour brown all over? I know it had something to do with a competition but it does exist.
Anyway I guess it’s kinda cool but usually red Nintendo systems seem to look cheap and nasty, it would look better if the joycons were a denim blue with yellow joysticks.
