Area 6’s boss is all that stands between you and reaching the end of Star Fox's Hard Route, with Venom 2 and the True Ending just round the corner.
As you might expect, this boss - named Gorgon - is pretty challenging, and with its health not depleting in the first phase of the fight, also initially confusing.
This page explains how to beat Gorgon in Star Fox, including tips on avoiding its variety of attacks so you can come out the other side as unscathed as possible.
How To Beat Area 6 Boss Gorgon in Star Fox
On paper, the boss is pretty straightforward. To damage and beat Gorgon, you must:

- Destroy the three tentacles to open the core
- Destroy the three energy balls inside the core
- Repeat this until Gorgon deploys a powerful laser attack
- From here, the inner core can be finally damaged after the ‘destroy three energy balls’ step
Essentially, you have to repeatedly open the core and destroy the energy balls until the core is finally vulnerable: you’ll know this is possible when the boss can charge and fire a huge screen-filling laser.
All the while, you have to avoid a variety of powerful attacks. These include:
- Tentacle swipes (dodge to the side of the screen in the opposite direction they approach)
- Fleets of rockets and ships (move to the outer edges of the screen, or destroy them with a volley of fire, with a chance of silver rings dropping to refill your shield)
- A massive laser that can wipe out your health pretty quickly (sit at the edge of the screen then move in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction - whichever way the laser isn’t approaching)
Gorgon’s attacks are powerful but, with some practice, are telegraphed enough that you can dodge them the majority of the time.
