Monster Train 2 Switch eShop
Monster Train 2 is a deckbuilder to rival Slay the Spire, says Pes!:
At a time where people have been clamoring for Slay the Spire 2, many have missed out on the incredible sequel to Monster Train, a roguelike deckbuilder that for me, had more staying power than StS with multiple clan combos, and better art & music. MT2 adds fun new clans, new Equipment/Room cards, unique Pyre Hearts, better balanced gameplay, a quicker difficulty climb... everything you'd want from a sequel and more!
Moonleap Switch eShop
recastanho keeps things extremely short and sweet for guselect's Moonleap:
A very cute Puzzle-Platform.
Muchi Muchi Pork! & PinkSweets Boosted Switch eShop
romanista nominates a pair of shmups with a title that's surely a frontrunner for Game Name of the Year:
Cave shooters seem to appear on the eShop about once a year. There are the masterful conversions by M2. There are those my Limewire which sometimes were a bit sloppy, but updated in the end. And there are those by City Connection which seem to improve everytime.
Cave games are brutal ofcourse, really deep shooting games for the specialists. Most recent conversions have some sort of training mode. These 2 as a double couple are from a different line then Do-don-pachi, by a different author. Pink Sweets looks lovely, a cute, but will hand you your *ss in notime. Mushi Mushi pork is maybe less well known, but is great too. The xbox 360 had this as a double pack, not sure why this needed to be a double pack in the eshop...
Neon Inferno Switch eShop
recastanho is back with Neon Inferno:
Cyberpunk Run 'n' Gun made by Zenovia Interactive (Steel Assault). Gameplay reminds me of Dick Tracy from SEGA Genesis.
Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution Switch
Nep-Nep-Freak likes Neptunia. Whodathunkit?
I would like to make a shout-out to Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution, an action JRPG spin-off of the Neptunia series that I love so much. Aside from a little management sim gameplay at Older Neptune's game development studio, it's just another great dungeon exploration Neptunia JRPG with a 20-ish hour main story that often goes on sale digitally without DLC for around $15.

No Longer Home Switch eShop
Genevieve highlights Humble Grove's No Longer Home.
No Longer Home is a short, narrative focused adventure game centering on two people in a relationship coming to terms with an important phase of their life ending as they are finishing school and both moving away, one of them leaving the country. This discusses nature of community and safe spaces for and within nonbinary and queer identities and how to say goodbye to a time of life that means everything to you. Haunting, very sad, and very overlooked, it does and says a lot and I would highly recommend it.
NO-SKIN Switch eShop
ChessboardMan gets us in the spirit for Halloween:
Another one for spooky season, this is a surreal retro-style horror rogue-like with turn based RPG combat that tries to freak you out, and will probably succeed. You start off with an introduction that ends with an encounter with a man with no skin, who demands you find his skin. You then choose a room each round after that, but you never know what is going to happen. Perhaps an encounter with one of your “friends” who are slowly mutating into monsters? Strangely compelling and very disturbing, and I’ve barely scratched the surface. The skin, if you will.
Pampas & Selene Switch eShop
AllieKitsune picks Pampas & Selene:
A tribute to Maze of Galious from the dev of UnEpic, and much more forgiving and less cryptic than something like La-Mulana (the standard-bearer for Maze of Galious tributes). The Quality of Life features make this one significantly less daunting to play than Galious, but no less enjoyable.
Parking Garage Rally Circuit Switch eShop
This one gets a couple of shoutouts. First, from Gassi The Cat:
Parking Garage Rally Circuit's name and eShop icon are easily overlooked as shovelware, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Retro-themed in appearance (think Sega Saturn) and resolutely arcadey in handling (drift for speed boosts), the courses have enough scope for improving laptimes and more character & variation than you'd think it was possible to imbue car parks with, making races against 3 others and your ghost very moreish even when the bouncy physics send you tumbling. A few spoiler-free highlights: giant boulders, snow ploughs, a lightning strike and a nod to the Rainbow Road. Great music, excellent value for the base game and DLC, 4-player splitscreen (but not online) AND a faithful promise from developer Tim ‘Walaber’ Fitzrandolph to bring the title to consoles this year are the icing on the multi-story cake. Just watch a video: it's as fun to play as it looks.
And secondly, recastanho keeps things characteristically concise:
Sega Rally but you race on a garage.
Wishlisted.
Path of Mystery: A Brush with Death Switch eShop
T-3 is a fan of Path of Mystery: A Brush with Death:
I’m honestly suprised how little exposure this game has gotten as it can absolutely hold its own against other popular murder mysteries. I’d say it most closely resembles the Famicom Detective Club games but it has its own unique traits like sending your mind back to the past to investigate (retro graphics included) or the whole game being structured like an anime show where each episode has an outro and a preview of what’s to come in the next. It also has great visuals and an amazing (Japanese) dub.
Pinball Spire Switch eShop
JJtheTexan sent a shoutout for Pinball Spire, "an enjoyable 'pinballvania' adventure that plays a bit like the NES title Pinball Quest."
It features three special pinball manipulation abilities acquired throughout the journey, like a charged shot, which are necessary for progress. A few areas can be a bit tricky, and I was occasionally stumped by a missed route that contained a needed upgrade, but otherwise it's pretty straightforward. It's mostly fun, though the endgame is a bit of a slog that requires replaying all boards, concluded with a lengthy final boss.
Pit Panic Switch 2
Nathan digs Flying Rat Studio's Pit Panic on Switch 1 and 2:
It’s a rogue-like platformer where you climb a cave. A bit like Spelunky. This game has barely any review, even though it’s addictive and very polished! A true hidden gem.
POST VOID Switch eShop
AlienigenX enjoys the retro stylings of 2023's POST VOID:
Post Void developed by YCYJ is a delightfully short high, easy to learn but tough to master. It's so short you can play hundred of times trying to get better. Music is cool. Graphics are punk. Tarantino game!
Prison City Switch eShop
Solar Jetman returns, and this time it's..prison-al? Boom, nailed it.
What do you get when you cross beloved NES action games like Power Blade and Shatterhand with Escape From New York? A rollicking homage to the ‘80s called Prison City. Initial stages can be played in any order. Your boomerang-wielding Snake Plissken-looking hero, complete with eye patch, traverses areas from a nature preserve to an American football stadium, with set pieces that include a motorcycle section. Tight controls, great music and lovely NES-style graphics complete the package.

Overall great list, thanks to all those who recommended any of these games - already knew about several of them (haven't played them myself, though), but there are some I haven't even just heard of and that definitely appeal to me!
Still waiting for the Harry Potter review. It's a great AAA RPG that really pushes the Switch 2 in a number of impressive ways, imo. Neat list, though - I haven't even heard of most of these games, tbh.
Other than the game I recommended, I’ve only played Birth. It’s quirky, and its puzzles are inventive enough to keep you engaged. It just didn’t resonate with me long after I completed it.
I have Monster Train 2 on my wishlist, and I’ll be adding Berry Bury Berry as well.
Every time one of these articles comes out, it gets harder for me to contribute to one as my wishlist gets bigger and bigger with all these recommendations. I hardly have the time to find hidden gems of my own. Anyway, I added Dadish 4 and Moonleap to my wishlist, and Well Dweller was already added.
Cool to see my Silver Pines recommendation featured, thanks guys. Just finished the game the other day, after 15 hours or so, actually found the ending(s) quite emotional. It's largely inspired by Silent Hill 2, story too, but still so impressive from a small team.
Well Dweller all day, i throughly enjoyed it.
I got Flamecraft as I enjoy the board game, the game plays a little awkwardly on the TV unfortunately. The good thing is it definitely makes the game quicker
Well Dweller? Easily one of the best games I played 2026 to date. A must play for everyone who is into metroidvanias.
I would like to recommend Tenebris Somnia
It’s a survival horror 8 bit retro game with live action cut scenes (which are really well produced and not one ounce of AI on them)
I love how from one moment youre playing s retro game and suddenly youre watching a horror movie. The contrast is what makes it feel like something fresh.
https://youtu.be/UuvcepjC_dg?si=Pmld3oJIED7VLWCf
It just released last week
This is such an awesome recurring feature - thank you for doing them! And thank you to everyone that submits the nominations! I wish I could check out everything.
Out of curiosity, does the list of these games get whittled down in some way? I assume you couldn't post every game that is sent to you. So, does the staff give them a once-over to determine the "winners?"
I tried the demo for the Well Dweller game based on someone's (sorry) recommendation in a comments section. It is really good.
I was also surprised by how much I enjoyed the Marsupilami game, again based off of the demo.
How could you guys have missed Well Dweller? The creator's other games, like Crypt Custodian and Islets got reviewed. This might be his best one yet. I personally recommend it to people who bounced off Silksong. Not saying its a copy of it. I just mean the vibe of it and it being a metroidvania. But its heavy on an addictive loop of exploration without the insanely hard combat.
Also, shout out to Bio Menace Remastered. If anyone has enjoyed playing DOS games back in the day like Commander Keen or the original Duke Nukems, they would love this.
Thanks for the recommendations, everybody!
I'd like to second Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Shape of Dreams, and Urban Myth Dissolution Center.
I may check out Sprawl Zero and the Parking Garage one!
Parking Garage Rally Circuit is a masterpiece.
Depressing to think stuff like that execrable Bubsy collection is able to get a professional review but not any of these genuine treasures.
Your introduction to my shoutout had me cackling 😂.
Looks like a nice assortment of games.
Played a bit of the Well Dweller demo recently. Seems good but I found the sound design to be a bit underwhelming in the little I played. Didn't grab me.
Parking Garage Rally Circuit looks awesome! How does it run on Switch 2?
Looking forward to the physical release of Well Dweller, looks amazing, and Crypt Custodian was so good 😍
@Andy_Witmyer if they haven’t made one I’d have to imagine it’s due to the discourse surrounding Harry Potter’s creator
Hey, Shape of Dreams gets some love!
Post Void is a bit trippy, but the loop was good. Hotline Miami or something.
Riptide Renegade GP is a fun wave race esque game I bought the other day. Pretty, pretty, pretty good
I can also recommend Double Dragon Advance. It is like a greatest hits of all early DD games and plays great! I would like to try Parking Lot Garage Rally and Spy Intercept looks really well done also.
This is one of my favorite features on Nintendo Life. As usual, I found a few new games to try! Thank you to all who contributed.
@FishyS
"Dadish 4 is, as expected, the sixth game in the Dadish Series."
Brilliant opener!
Cool feature. I maybe had watched 2 vidoes for these games before this. I watched 7 or 8 more. So at least they got more exposure. Chrono Ark Deluxe might be the game I try... but backlog. I'm finally about to tackle Final Fantasy VI only, what 30 years after release? Great so far, as expected.
I'm adding moon leap, prison city, and Pampas & Selene to my wishlist. Well Dweller was already on there.
A lot of good looking shmups on the list but my shmup backlog is already infinite.
Marsupilami 2 is a game I feel like I should love but I tried the demo and it didn't quite click for me; not sure why.
Anyways, lots of good looking games and fun to read the short reviews.
