...only the theme is not actually "Save The Virtual Console," but rather "help Virtual Console get a bit of momentum." (Unfortunately, others will still see this as "Save the Virtual Console.") After all, though I am rather worried about the state of affairs with Virtual Console releases, I do not think that Virtual Console will die or something. (At least Yoshi's Island is a given...)

As we know, the "easiest" releases are just about used up, though the more "famous" games are being held in reserve (though I think that, considering that Super Smash Bros. was released, all of the "famous" games are used up). Now, most of the release have issues on the realms of legality (and Nintendo does not want to bother with the lawsuits that can be peta-expensive, even if they win), hardware (In Super Mario RPG, when Johnny attacks Bowser in the middle, Mario's sprite gets messed up a bit), or translation (I already mentioned an article regarding the unfeasability of translations). Such is probably why petitions (who need much more organization) or boycotts would not be as effective as expectations lead (since they aim at the general amount of games and not the reasons why they are trickling). (Incidentally, the most popular solution is also the least effective: complain about the issue.)

So, what should we do to assist the service? (I am learning Nipponese, but...)

Actually, I like Bowser AND hairy bellies!

We could always try to buy as many of the games as we want when we get the money.

However, there are two problems with it:
1. If you don't have a job or too young to get one.
2. Some people might already have all the VC games they want and are waiting for more.

Because of these reasons, I don't think it'll help much.

However, I do think I have another idea.

IF Nintendo makes a Virtual Console next gen, they shouldn't just carry all the games the service has now. They should do an total reboot with new systems and slightly more games to ones that already were supported on the Virtual Console at launch of that particular system.

Petitions? Boycotts? I don't understand what the problem is. In the past few months, we've gotten classics like Rondo of Blood, Final Fantasy II, Sonic & Knuckles, Pilotwings, Super Smash Bros, Earthworm Jim 2, and Blaster Master. The Virtual Console is awesome! What exactly is it that you want?

(I only mentioned petitions and boycotts since petitions are the second most common way to fight back against this, and I once planned a boycott.)

This.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

The Virtual Console was the main reason why I bought my Wii. The decline in VC-releases concerns me though. I want at least two Virtual Console games being released again every week (not only during Hanabi festivals). When WiiWare was started I thought it would be nice to have an additional service. I didn't suspect that could lead to a starving Virtual Console.

Besides it's definitely not my fault that Nintendo supports WiiWare way more than Virtual Console nowadays:
Virtual Console downloads: about 40
WiiWare downloads: 0

Well, Nintendo makes money off the VC, but clearly they're being rather conservative on courting 3rd parties.

I'd like to see them do the licensing themselves, but maybe it's just easy money and therefore not something they see a need to put more effort into?

Of course people will see this as "Save the Virtual Console", you made it the title...

But you point out in your original post that most of the "easiest" games are already on there, and you say all of the "famous" games are already on there. You point out that much of of what's excluded isn't possible due to legality, hardware, or translation. It sounds to me like much of what's left would just be "filler".

Of course, there are games that I'd buy if they were added. But honestly, we've already gotten more out of the service than I had hoped for. Of the 350 games, I think about 200 of them are worth playing. That's already too many games for me to ever play. Is there a better legal download service for classic games anywhere in the world?

Most of the good VC games were released in 2008. After that, Nintendo reduced its major releases to "once in awhile".
I actually like WiiWare. SBCG4AP is a hilarious point-and-click. Drift Mania has the nostalgia of Super Off Road with a modern twist. I even downloaded Excitebike World Rally because I thought I'd like it, but wasn't interested in the NES version.

I think we all just need to come to accept the Virtual Console for what it is. That is, we should realize by now that not every game from our precious childhood memories is going to become available and we may have to wait a while for the remainder that do. I also find it hard to complain when a) both Wii retail and WiiWare games have really ramped up in quality lately and seem like they will remain steady for a while, so VC being on the back burner isn't really hurting our content flow and b) the VC games that are being released seem to be of better quality over all.

Future Wii purchases:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Zelda Wii
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Sin and Punishment 2

What would save the Virtual Console? NIntendo needs to start releasing more anticipated titles (i.e The Return of Ishtar, Solvalou, Ogre Battle 64, Earthworm Jim 3D, Out of This World, Doom, Stunt Race FX, Star Fox, Yoshi Island, Star Fox 2 , The latter four might not happen until the end of the year because of the problems with emulating the Super FX Chip.) instead of picking titles out of a hat. (i.e Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Samurai Ghost, The Legend of Kage, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, Rondo of Blood, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair, and Final Fight 3)

More 3rd party games would be nice. I want Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Bomberman 64, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack!, and Bomberman Hero very badly.

RowdyRodimus

@wiiplayer26 I don't want to be rude, but I'm pretty sure a game like Rondo of Blood was waaaaaay more anticipated than The Return of Ishtar or (what we would get) the SNES version of Doom.

The_Ink_Pit_Ox

It'd be nice if they'd release titles that were overhyped in their day. That is, most of the popular franchise games.

It's all good. We all have a certain game we want released so badly it just makes us wonder "why is XXXXXXX released when XXXXXXX isn't?"
