I had made a topic of the WII U's gamepad range, but clearly a concern wasn't enough.
Today i received the worst range i've ever seen. I put my gamepad on the WII U console itself, and STILL it was asking to move it closer. Now, it isn't just my WII U's gamepad that is messed up. All of my friends have this problem. Yes, this error is on and off but come on, with the amount of money we paid for this system we shouldn't have to gamble on the days when the gamepad works and when it doesn't.
What really pissed me off? I went to play COD BO2. I was 100 points away (1 kill) from a swarm, then the gamepad gave me the screen, saying that it completely lost signal, and i lost the swarm. For those wondering, i play COD BO2 on the gamepad. Why? Because i love off tv play (one of the biggest selling points for the WII U to me) which is annoying since its a gamble when it wants to work or not.
After that i went to play mk8, trying to see if i can get a game in. I was in second place, very close to first and it was almost the end of the third lap. and AGAIN it gave me the same screen, making me get 8th place in the end. Starting to feel my pain?
Frustrated, i try to go on netflix, to watch some videos. Cant mess that up right? Wrong. The chunky frames and lag just ruined it again. And this is NOT internet lag (thats different)
I feel like since i paid so much for a system, i should get whats advertised. One of the selling points of the WiiU is not always working, due to a error that they should have addressed. They should have realeased an attachment, system update, or whatever possible to fix this. And im not against Nintendo or anything, i love the ds lite, 3ds , and the WII that i have.
Forgive me for grammar errors, as im trying this on the WII U gamepad, with lag >.>
1. No way the gamepad is asking to be moved closer when its on top of the console without being broken
2. No way your friends are having the same issue, I mean who has friends with Wii U's
3. The gamepad cannot have 'lag' independent to the TV image, its not WiFi the image is being sent from one source.
I'm partly messing with you but if your having these issues then your gamepad then its broken and you need to send it back to Nintendo.
I've never had a single problem with the range. Either there is something wrong with your console/gamepad in particular, or you're just to far away. If your not in the same room as the Wii U itself then there's your problem. If it doesn't work in the same room then the best thing to do is call Nintendo's costumer support, and they should help you from there.

I have never had a problem with my GamePad's Range. Maybe you should call Nintendo (I don't know if you have as I didn't read all of it)
I did, and they are asking for a hefty amount for the repair, since im out of warranty. And i did take VERY good care of this gamepad. The first one had the same problem, and i got a new WII U. This one has the same problem.

Hope you get it fixed soon.
Seriously? I wouldn't waste my time addressing this issue if it were fake,
1. It did, thus why i said it was one of the worst ranges i've seen so far...
2. Not all my friends have WII U's. Most of them are upper middle class, so they can afford it, and when i went to their house i've saw the same problem.
3. What are you talking about? The gamepad IS showing exactly what the tv is showing, BUT when the gamepad is getting 'too far' from the console, it starts getting choppy, making it loose frames, the tv would display it fine, but not the gamepad because of the range. My tv isn't always available, which is why i loved the idea of the off tv play feature.
Sadly i don't have enough $$$ for repairs. Maybe later on after saving a little bit

My Wii U is right under my tv (in a tv showcase) my couch is about 4-5ft away. I always play on the couch. I understand if it loses connection in the bathroom or kitchen, but not 5 feet away without anything blocking the signal
Any other Bluetooth devices active in your environment?
The only one i can think of would be smartphones but i just checked and none of them are turned on. I turned them on to check if thats what getting in the way and saw no difference.
Thank you all in advance for trying to help by giving me suggestions. I'm very thankful for all the supporters here at NintendoLife
Actually... My Wii U used to have really bad connection issues, too but they stopped when I turned the console on and off several times and sat close to the Wii U.
I came on here to agree the range is quite limited but i have to be honest the issues you are having seem more like somethings broken then a Wii U problem per say. I've never had the issue you're having and i don't know anyone who has which makes your claims of this issue being prevalent elsewhere seem odd, not that i'm saying it didn't happen either, i'm just saying it does seem far more uncharacteristic than you're implying.
