As someone who played Batman Arkham City without playing Arkham Asylum, I can say that the story wasn't really hampered from my lack of knowledge. If you have the most basic understanding of the Batman universe like me (i.e. who the major villains are, who Batman is as a character) you should be fine. It's a very good game. Scribblenauts looks like one of those things where if you liked the first two, you'll probably like this one. Lego City Undercover looks really good too, since it's pretty different from the other Lego games, which is nice.

For future reference
1. I will be mainly playing alone since it doesn't seem as though the original WiiRemotes are incompatible with Wii U games and two GamePads is waaaay out of budget.
There are third-party Plus adapters which plug into the spot where the Nunchuck clips in. The Nunchuck then plugs into the Plus adapter. Costs around $15 - $20 on eBay. Thinking of getting a couple myself. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004V13D0I
Until this morning, Zombie U and NSMB were my launch day purchases.
However, after reading the positive reviews for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, I think I might have to pick it up too. It got an 8.6 from IGN and a 9 from Eurogamer. Just watched some videos, and it looks fantastic to be honest. I really like how open and creative the tracks look. The reviews didn't really touch on the Wii U specific features, but other articles have talked about how the gamepad can be used for single player play, and can also be used for map reference, a rear-view mirror and for close ups of your fired weapons. Sounds cool.
Ok. ZombiU it is then. I just go on the eShop, for one game, and see Tekken which would be my next choice, or Sonics more affordable price so I can get a/multiple-cheaper 3DS games too, but ZombiU is an exclusive.

New Super Mario Bros. U is so much fun! I really enjoy the courses and music, and the Miiverse integration is addictive. Also, the Baby Yoshis are adorable!

Batman Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City are two totally different stories its like saying you shouldn't see The Dark Knight without seeing Batman Forever they don't effect each other besides some cool little easter eggs (i have both games for the 360)
I bought ZombiU off the eShop, and 3 hours later(not the best internet), I finally have it on my console. I'm already stuck on the first mission, because I can't find the other IP camera box. I looked for an hour and stll couldn't find it. I think I'm just going to start the game over since learning how to play it was weird at first, too. Graphics are good, and same with audio from what I saw for people considering buying it. Gamepad use is really good too. I just can't believe I'm stuck on the first objective...
