The retail version of This Is The Police developed by Weappy Studio and published by THQ Nordic was aimed to release on 5th December and I received my Amazon pre-order yesterday, one day late(r).

Having paused Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for a day, I started a file on this and after a 5 hour session (I'm 20 in-game days in) I have to say that this is a lot of fun.

It's a story-driven police-sim, almost a visual novel, with RPG elements, strategic and diplomatic gameplay, detective and puzzle elements, all very noir style, with a great soundtrack and a flat-shaded 'Another World' polygon-look.

The choices that you make and the people that you get involved with change the rest of the game. Your stats and a bit of rng mix up how things play out in the game: I replayed 2 days (I was in a game-over dead-end with a killer shooting my head, and I had to change the actions of my last 2 days to survive) and things turned out very differently, which was a positive surprise. If you mess up you can go back and start again from every day in your calendar - just be warned if you go back - because that will start a new timeline and all days after the one you reloaded get erased.

It's just fun to select your officers and send them strategically to a wide variety of crimes by judging incoming calls. And it's even greater to see the officers stats rising because of handling a situation perfectly.

It's simple to play, and the many little things you can do within the user interface, like managing officers/detectives and their shifts, talking to the mayor or the mafia, go investigating, etc. are easy to navigate. You can promote officers, ask for loans, salary increase and money for other upgrades, etc. etc. etc. You can even buy/get records to have your own office soundtrack.

So yeah, it's a great, stylish, unique, and mature game, definately worth the low price.
