Yesterday I spent an hour on the phone with nintendo because my hello kitty island adventure game came but wouldn't let me tell gold coins for it. When I called Nintendo they said as of March 24, 2025 they discontinued the gold coins program. Luckily the manager was nice enough to manually put the gold coins on my account. Went through alot rig a ma roll with giving them the console bar code number, the letters on the cartridge, even telling them the amazon order number when I purchased the game. The first guy tried to tell me because I purchased the game at 9 am & not 9:30 am they almost weren't going to give me the gold coins.
Did anyone else know about them discontinuing the gold coin program? Just baffled...
@Barbiegurl777 Yeah, unfortunately as of March 24, we can no longer get gold coins. Nintendo did indeed mention this a month ago. Any physical games that were released after that date won't earn you gold coins, either. It was really nice of the guys at Nintendo to give you some gold coins for the game you got, however.
What I should also mention is that you're still free to use the gold coins you currently have - I still have some left over. They do still expire a full year after you've acquired them though, so be sure to use them before that happens. To see if there's any platinum/gold coins that are about to expire, do the following...
1) Go to the My Nintendo main page
2) Pick "menu" (with the three horizontal lines)
3) Pick "point summary"
4) Pick "points expiration"
And there you go, you can see if there's any coins that are about to go away. You can use your gold coins towards games, DLC, or Nintendo Switch Online memberships. Those gold coins helped me save some cash for my NSO subscription. Hope this all helped.
True. Well the gold points were nice when it was around. Not going to stop me from buying games either way. Just got in a habit of getting gold coins when buying games~ 🤣 I don't think I have to worry about the gold points expiring. I already have a few games still on the "wishlist" in the eshop~ 🤣
@Barbiegurl777 Lol, I've been the same way! Anytime I get a physical game, I'd always redeem gold coins from them, unless the game I got is a year old or more. I think I had trouble getting gold coins from when I got Sonic Mania Plus years ago, but the folks at Nintendo helped me out. That's good, those gold coins will come in handy for the games you want at the eShop. I'll still be getting games too, regardless of the discontinuation.
Changing tracks, I also left Twitter a good while back. It got too negative for me.
