My family loves our WiiU. Though I do agree that the WiiPad was underused for game mechanics. However, It is used daily by my son and daughter to either watch netflix or play games when the TV is being used. I'll never purchase an Xbox or Playstation. Something about them just rubs me the wrong way - I have two gaming pcs if I want to enjoy that sort of gaming. I have to say though, I have a wishlist of features I'd like for the next Nintendo console - If these are met, I will undoubtedly purchase it:
Name: Wii cubed(symbol, not word) $500 - 800? Less? More? As long as it's quality I'll pay. Spent $2000 dollars on one of my pc's and 1200 on my second. I've always wondered something, though: Given that it's been statistically proven that poorer people play games considerably more than rich people, would it not be in a companies' best interest to price things lower? Price it lower, and sell more, evening out profits for just the console, if not making more? Then with more owners, more accessories and games are bought?
Shape: Cube! I loved the shape of the Gamecube.
Processor: Equivalent to a sixth gen i5
Graphics: Equivalent of a Fury nano w/ dynamic scaling between 2560x1440, 2048x1152, and 1920x1080.
Ram: 8 gigs
Expandable Memory: SD card slot, usb 3.0 port for external storage.
Cooling: Closed loop watercooling on both cpu and gpu - rear exhaust - side intakes with removable hepa filters.
Games: Games should be made as 3ds sized catridges that are simply slotted in and out like on the 3ds.
Pro Controller, WiiProMote: Nintendo controllers need to evolve and be the standard controller- personally, I find the xbox controller to be the most comfortable and easy to use (stick/d-pad/button layout). I have to admit, having the right stick above the buttons is awkward. This coming from a non-biased PC gamer. I like the idea of having scrolling shoulder buttons (not triggers) be clickable, but also scrollable like a mouse wheel. MSRP: $50
"WiiMote": As standard, though they'd obviously need some extra buttons to provide the same functionality as the updated pro controller..
"WiiPad Controller": Essentially an xbox controller with a 3ds in the center. It would be the same as the proposed pro controller, except the sticks and buttons would be lower profile to facilitate the top screen flipping down to cover the face of the controller. It will be able to "stream" from the console while at home, like the current WiiPad, but the cartridges will be able to be inserted into it when away from the console for traditional handheld use (same games played on the console at home will be played on the handheld when away from the home). This would be sold separately for $200 and replace the 3ds platforms. The console will have a recess on the top to serve as a docking port for the Wiipad for charging and other integration with the console. Some sort of cloud system should allow saves to automatically be updated between the console and Wiipad. I know this might seem like it'd nuke sales from the handheld market, but I don't think it would do so. It'd be able to be bought separately and used just fine - I know plenty of people who don't own a wii u, but own a 3ds and either an xbox or playstation. But this would make the console/handheld SOOOO much more appealing and be a big selling point. All your games, whether you are at home or waiting at the DMV, so long as you've got the cartridge. The cloud computing rumors would still be viable, too.
Sports Bundle: Console, WiiMote, Nunchuk, Sensor Bar, and WiiSports.
Fitness bundle: Console, WiiMote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar, Balance Board, and WiiFit.
Mario bundle: Console, WiiProMote, Choice of one -physical- copy of either Super Mario World, Super Mario Maker, Mario Cart, Mario Party, or Super Mario Galaxy.
Super Smash Bros Bundle: Console, 2x WiiProMote, Super Smash Bros.
Legend of Zelda Bundle: Console, WiiPad, The Legend of Zelda.
I feel it incredibly important that all the Nintendo titles are available at launch. So people have a good choice of games from the start.
While on the topic of next gen stuff... With this new console, and the unification of console and handheld I suggest, I think it a good time to bring up Pokemon "NX"!
The current formula for pokemon is getting old. I've been playing it since It's conception, and I think it's time to let the title progress. What I suggest is a 3d open world non linear game in which you take control of the pokemon once it's released from it's fancy spherical prison. You run, jump, dodge, block, attack - whatever - in a third person view. No artificial limits on skills KNOWN, just skills active, similar to diablo 3, where you equip four moves, and have a primary and secondary attack. Maybe using resource gauges based on pokemon type. I also think that all pokemon should have at least one weakness and one resistance, though I can see some pokemon having multiples.. Using everyone's favorite Pikachu as an example:
Primary: Tackle
Secondary: Agility
Move 1: Thunderball (short cast time, hurls a ball of lighting in straight line)
Move 2: Volt tackle (Activate to enhance next tackle with electricity)
Move 3: Thunderbolt (cast time, calls down a bolt of lightning on the targeted pokemon)
Move 4: Thundershock (Calls a bolt of lightning down on pikachu and spreads out in all directions for a short distance)
Perhaps it's just me, but I think this would bring Pokemon to the next level. Might as well throw this out there, but making pokemon look and sound more like morphologically feasible creatures would be cool, but if I got a game like this, I wouldn't even mind the cartoony pokemon 'cause it'd be so cool.
On to Amiibos. I think Nintendo land should be turned into Nintendo's version of Skylanders/disney infinity/lego diamensions, it's a game that comes with two figures, but more are required to do different things. The central hub plays like Nintendo Land ,but you can go off an do story mode stuff. Make it expandable with purchasable missions packs.
The Amiibos would still be able to be used in all other nintendo games for their current use, and new uses.
Heck, you can even make a boardgame similar to golemn arcana that utilizes the amiibos. It would come packaged with a cartridge that you can insert into your console or the previously described WiiPad Controller like any other WiiCubed game to take the place of the Apple/Android tablet Golemn Arcana uses. Cool thing about this, is that it allows people who might have bought the WiiPad controller without the WiiCubed console for handheld gaming to play board games with their friends at a tabletop, appealing to another demographic.
So many things can be done with Amiibos outside of what they are used for now...
Contrary to other posters, I feel Nintendo needs to compete. It needs to blow them out the water. People will pay more for getting more. Toss in free online services along with all the aforementioned awesomeness, and I think people would be lined up to get their hands on this. Xbox and Playstation are horrible and rotten platforms. Bury them. With what I suggested, I think casual, family, and core demographics would fall all over this. Especially with a strong third party backing pumping out title. I salivate with the thought of playing Diablo 3 on my WiiPad controller with three buddies. Grand Theft Auto. Everquest Next. All the awesome stuff that Nintendo puts out! Throw in nintendo racing peripherals and get some good, serious, racing games.
