For me, it was the Smurfs game yesterday, now it's this! My friend and I have been on a Mortal Kombat kick lately, we're both surprised by this. Recently got Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch (friend gifted me an eShop card), and I like it. I'm surprised how smooth the fighting is on Switch.

Recently, I've been playing MK2, MK3, MKXL, and 11 on and off. Always liked this fighting series.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

i just started playing Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance for my Gamecube recently which keep me busy this summer along with replaying Mortal Kombat X

I was thinking it was another reboot since it's called Mortal Kombat 1, but from the trailer it doesn't look that way more if a continuation. If that's the case why call Mortal Kombat 1 and not 12? I am guessing someone at WB/Discovery doesn't know how to count.

I would love a mortal kombat where you can turn off the gore. I’ll pick it up if my fighting game club puts it in rotation but I likely won’t play much otherwise. Samsho is just right on gore for me.

It seems to me the power of being a god has gone over Lui Kang's head. He wants everything perfect with no imperfections while maintaining order. It would be a breath of fresh air if NRS made Shang Tsung the hero. Trying to give the world its free will back.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Amazon leaked the first round of playable DLC characters.

I look forward to playing as Omni Man and/or Homelander. They'll feel right at home here.

@Tasuki Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I was expecting it would literally be the first game but with all the bells and whistles of today's game engine, some mechanics, etc. I really thought that would be cool to just completely start over with that. Back to its roots and basics. Like you I see this more as MK12 than "1" but I get the story concept behind it. Ah well.

This also crushes my hopes for any sort of re-release (enhanced to some degree would be even better!) of MK Trilogy. Or at least some sort of MK collection similar to the TMNT Cowabunga Collection. I wonder if behind the scenes they can't due to any likeness ownership expiring or something because they used actual actors for the characters? They'd have to renegotiate contracts or something which I'd expect to be a back & forth nightmare for the legal team. Wouldn't surprise me if true.

This fire is burning and it's out of control. It's not a problem you can stop it's Rock and Roll!!!

Tasuki

@Ganner I guess Ed Boon's explanation was that it's a new beginning for the MK series and won't rely on previous MK games. Think like what DC or Marvel does to comic series every so often. To avoid confusion he called it MK 1 since they previously had two games called Mortal Kombat (The original first one and then the Reboot). I guess he bad a Battlefield 1 moment for a second there. I don't see why they couldn't call it like Mortal Kombat: New Beginnings or Mortal Kombat: Next Generation. To me it falls in the category of Wii U. I am sure your are going to get alot of confused people thinking it's a Remaster of the original.

Speaking of the original, it wouldn't surprised me if the rights issue is what is holding up a Remaster. I mean they had problems in the past with the original actors and rights issues back in the early 90s, that's tbe reason Sonya wasn't in MK 2 and why they had a different actress play her in MK3 and Johnny Cage was missing from MK3 originally. I am sure that a release would open that can of worms again and they Netherrealm and WB just doesn't want to deal with it. At this point they would probably have to remake the game from the bottom up to avoid using those actors and the pretty much did that with Mortal Kombat (9).

Today the gaming retailer in my country put this up for pre-order and I wonder if the whole base game will be on the Switch cartridge. I can only dream I guess

Magician

@Zuljaras Considering both physical releases for the Switch (the standard and aftermath versions) required downloads, I lean towards the MK1 base game not being all on cartridge. Although the first box art images aren't showing a "required download" just yet, it's hard to be excited when I've seen it added later on with so many past releases.

Eshop preorders are live and show the game size as 31.2GB. Given 32GB carts are virtually nonexistent (Witcher 3 is the only one that comes to mind for Europe and US that used 32GB carts), it's safe to say that at least half of the physical version of the game is an internet download.

@Grumblevolcano I think Hogwarts Legacy might be the next one to use a 32GB cartridge.

So we'll be getting the first snippets of gameplay during Summer Gamefest on the 8th. But I hope folks around here intent on purchasing the Switch version aren't too drawn in by the razzle dazzle. For a game that's mostly a PS5/XBX/PC game (no PS4 or XBO versions), I'm already assuming the Switch version is going to look like butt. Considering the Switch version of 11 was muddy, chances are the Switch version will be a certain measure worse.

@Magician I’m hoping it runs at 60fps on Switch. If Netherealm are using Unreal Engine 5, Shiver Entertainment and Saber Interactive could implement TSR for better picture quality and performance. I think Fortnite on Switch is going to use it next season.

"What's your favorite Mortal Kombat game?"
"Mortal Kombat."
"Oh what, the one from 2011?"
"No, I mean Mortal Kombat 1."
"Oh what, the one from 2023?"
"Aaaaaaarghh!!!"

Let me guess, just to go all the way with being annoyingly confusing, they're going to call the next game in the series 'The Original Mortal Kombat'...
