Ok so basically I'm just going to sum up all the major and some niche games that came out this year and then share my thoughts. Forgive me if I don't add that many games or don't include some I may not think they're "big" enough to put on this list.

November:

December:
Danganronpa Decadence

So those were all the relevant games I could find/think of.
Overall I would rate this a pretty good year for the Nintendo Switch. There were some months where personally the games releasing were just eh like December and maybe some small droughts in between waiting. But for the most part I feel like games this year released for the switch were pretty solid and released in a nice steady stream.

I would rate the years in terms of quality games released like:

2017 > 2021 > 2019 >2020 > 2018

What do you all think of this year? And how is compares to the others in your opinion?

Personally i would rate it pretty similar to you, just swapping 2018 and 2020 maybe and putting 2021 and 2019 on equal footing for me
I think this year was pretty good, having Metroid Dread, Monster hunter rise and SMT V as big titles, personally i enjoyed a lot of the middle big releases as well, a little sad to see that Project Zero passed by so quietly, as well as Gris Tales though.

@Solaine Yeah I think the latter half was significantly better though.
Monster Hunter Rise was the big game for a while imo then came a bunch of other games like MH stories 2, No More Heroes 3, Wario ware, Dread, SMT V etc.

I rate 2021 high than 2019 mostly due to 2019 having a worst start to it. With the only notable game being like Animal Crossing. Meanwhile 21 also had Rise, 3D World, Persona 5 Strikers, Pokemon snap and more.

@YusseiWarrior3000 I heavily agree with it being than 2020.
But nothing will top the Switches first year imo.

@iLikeUrAttitude Agreed, the second half was almost always better though, with some exceptions.
Thanks for the sum up though, always fun to reflect a little on the year by the end of it

It's not been the best year for me in terms of Switch games.
In the first half I bought SM3DW + Bowser's Fury, the SMT Nocturne remaster and Skyward Sword HD. All were great but none of these were new games - the only one I wasn't revisiting was Nocturne, and it was an underwhelming remaster combined with some performance issues.
Apart from that I bought SMT V last month and it's one of the best games I've played in years! It's a little rough around the edges in terms of graphics but it's so much fun that I don't care

I would have bought Persona 5 Strikers and Little Nightmares 2 on Switch but I wasn't buying them on launch day, and PC discounts are almost always better. And Ni No Kuni 2 came out years after I finished it.

Hopefully 2022 is better. I know we had Metroid and Monster Hunter but I couldn't care less about those, here's to Bayonetta and Zelda (hopefully) next year!

@Kimyonaakuma I mean I don't mind if they were new games since barely anyone had the opportunity to play them.
Especially Nocturne.... I can understand if you already bought them on the Wii U though or on other consoles. And as long as said ports aren't overpriced Skyward Sword and maybe have some new content SM3DW + Bowser's Fury then in my opinion they're fine for the most part.

In order, 2017, 2021 and 2020 are the Switch's best years and I'm judging them mainly by the Nintendo titles that were released that I played. The biggest difference between this year and 2020 is the fact that Nintendo Directs came back and the Switch environment had more excitement as a result. 2021 delivered Bowser's Fury, New Pokemon Snap, WarioWare: Get It Together!, Metroid Dread and Pokemon BDSP. Aside from New Pokemon Snap, which I feel is a bit forgettable, I've really enjoyed this year's releases. Metroid Dread is at least within my Top 5 Switch games overall, and the year's best.

Definitly better then last year, But doesn't top any other year before it, Tho, I would give it a solid 7/10

@Snatcher I would argue its definitely better than 2018 too. That was the worst year for the switch imo.
I was just hard carried by smash.

Great year. For me, getting two new SMT games was a real treat. Been a huge SMT fan since getting into the series with IV so Nocturne was new to me. Still playing through V and it's already in my top 5 Switch games. Skyward Sword and 3D World were great remasters. I know SS didn't add anything new, but button controls and being able to play the game on the go was pretty significant to me. Bowsers Fury was such a well done expansion. Crash 4 is a solid game too, a nice and challenging platfomer. Metroid Dread was also a really good game, probably finds itself somewhere in my top 10 Switch games.

I've yet to play anything else yet, but there's plenty of good titles I'm interested in(Rise, the Pokemon games, WarioWare etc) My ranking 2017>2021>2019>2018>2020.

Solid, though I'm not sure if I'd say it's been better than the past few years or not.

As good a year as I could've hoped. Outside of some of the notable 3rd party exclusives stuff I've tried and not gotten into for previous entries (so didn't bother this time), this has been an absolutely killer year for my tastes. Inevitably next year will have a bunch of long anticipated, big games, but nothing will be as cool to me as getting a new Pokemon Snap, a brand new Warioware, a Metroid Fusion sequel, an N64 Mario Party love letter, a "Super Monkey Ball games people like" love letter, a No More Heroes 3, a new TWEWY and a Great Ace Attorney localization, in just one year. Outside of Pokemon Snap, all of those came out in the span of like 5 months. If I was into Monster Hunter and felt less hesitant to buy 3d World a 2nd time for a smaller 2nd game and Nintendo knew how to price and market their retro game service, this would've been perfect as far as I'm concerned.

I've had a lot of fun with the games this year, 3D World all the way through Pearl at the moment. Good times.

I became a bigger retro gamer during the Wii U era. I’ll just say that I’m glad to have had that to fall back on in the Switch’s mid-life

Plenty of kids games during year 2021.
I rated 8 / 10.
But in contrary, my mood to get Nintendo Switch during year 2020 and 2021 suddenly get eclipsed by my PS3 & PS4 games. I only got 4 Switch games during year 2020 another 4 Switch games during year 2021.

I think 2018 gets a hard time. It had Hollow Knight and Octopath Traveler, not to mention Celeste, Ys VIII and Into the Breach. The first-party stuff was a bit shaky, but I’d take 2018 over 2020. Just. I did love Hades.

This year was excellent. Best year since launch, IMO. Some top indies too, like Death’s Door and Overboard, but I think this was finally the year when it felt like AAA third parties were on board. Well, Capcom, anyway (developer of the year, across all platforms, I reckon). And Squenix made a real effort, with Bravely II, Neo and those weird games at the end of the year.

2017 > 2021 > 2019 > 2018 > 2020

Ultimately, though, none of those years was bad. In fact, all of them were good to great. But only 2017 had BotW, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade 2. Not sure we’ll ever see a better year.

7/10 3D World + Bowser's Fury, New Pokemon Snap, and Metroid Dread were good, but not enough. Was expecting more major 1st party IPs.
