Topic: Can 2 Lites Play Together?

Hoping someone can provide some insight... the regular Switch is sold out so I bought 2 Lites for my 2 kids. I was assuming they could play games together when I bought the 2 lites, but I've read that they can only play together if they BOTH have a copy of any and all games. Can anyone confirm this is true? They are still in their packages so I might return them if thats the case. Thanks!

Eel

It largely depends on the particular game.

What games do they intend to play?

@Lynnkatherine Mario Odyssey can't, but the others can through wireless play if I'm correct.

@Lynnkatherine With Mario Odyssey and Mario U Deluxe, you can probably just buy two Controllers off of Gamestop or eBay for cheap.

For Minecraft, yeah you need a second game.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

@Lynnkatherine I recommend returning one of the switch lites and just getting a Standard Switch, with a dock, so on most games, they only need one copy of a game and a second controller, but when they're playing different games, they can play on their respective switches.

@HotGoomba okay thanks for the advice. I thought they could each play on their own device but be in a 2 player mode like they can with the old nintendo 2DS and their Amazon tablets. Thanks for the info!

@Lynnkatherine Yeah unfortunately the only game that can do the 2ds thing [download play] is "Clubhouse Games", but I don't think that you would want to blow $40 on 50 board games and bowling.

Since the games are usually much bigger than most 2DS games, it's not very common to have download-play multiplayer anymore.

There's a few games that offer free multiplayer-only versions so people can play without buying the game twice, but that's about it.

Still, both kids could find enjoyment in having their own individual system and sharing the games. I guess it could be worth asking them what would they prefer.

@Lynnkatherine Two consoles cannot share one game. Nintendo's system is designed that way. So, if you want to play using local wireless, you'll need buy two games (that support local wireless).

You can play split screen on a lite, but you'd need extra controllers (a pair of joy-cons or two pro controllers), but playing split screen on one lite is not ideal, because the screen is not big, and you'll likely want a stand for it.

The benefit of a regular Switch is playing split screen multiplayer on a tv, which the Lite can't do that. Lite has no tv output.(even though their plugs look the same)

@Eel ok, thanks! It's a christmas gift I've been slowing buying to spread out the cost. I'll have to think it over. Thank you!
