@Kermit1 Personally I'm torn. I think Xenogears HD is more likely because Square-Enix have been pumping out remasters frequently for the past few years. But deep down I would prefer XCX to arrive first.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,519 games (as of November 1st, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 2 games (as of June 9th, 2025)
I think Xenogears will come first because Square Enix decided to acknowledge the game via Theatrhythm Final Bar Line's DLC (Xenogears DLC pack releases September 20th 2023). All the games featured in the DLC except Xenogears and Chrono Trigger are playable on at least 1 modern system. As for ones not on the Switch currently:
Xenogears
Chrono Trigger
Nier (we have Nier Automata but not the first game, wouldn't be surprised if Square ported over the recent Nier Replicant remaster though)
I think Xenoblade X is more likely but I'm playing it on Wii U at the moment whereas Xenogears has never even been released in Europe, so that's definitely the one I'd rather see on Switch.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
I actually played Xenogears on my PSP earlier this year and I played Xenoblade Chronicles X last year.
Personally, I really want a port of XCX because I feel like there are so many things in the game that I didn't do in my first playthrough. I'd still be happy with a Xenogears port though. I don't think I've ever played a game with a story that melted my mind so much lol.
As for which one would release first, it's really hard to say lol. We have the story expansion for XC3 releasing late 2023 so I'm not expecting a port of XCX until like 2025 lol. Idk when square last acknowledged Xenogears
I think they'll save X for a full remake on the next system (who the **** has time for a fourth Xenoblade game on one system?).
I'm personally most interested if they'll put out a version of Xenogears that doesn't have to rush half its story. That's the main thing I know about Xenogears, that they had to recap in-game what would've been a large portion of the story because they ran out of time to actually make it.
Which will come first? Which would you prefer?
I'm bored.
Discuss.
Well I would want a XCX port first.
But at this point whats most likely is a Xenogears remake funny enough.
We're 5 years into the Switch's lifespan and we got every xenoblade game on it except for X.
Monolith have stated multiple times how they would "love to" port XCX but money is the core issue. And considering how many games we got in place of X, that just leads to me assume it's not worth it to them.
Xenogears depending on how it's remade could be seen much sooner than we think or a passion project years down the line.
Since Square owns the ip an HD 2D remake of it could be possible and probably the safest way to remake it while pleasing the most amount of people, however we already had multiple HD 2D games released from them and still have one on the way being DQ3, I think they would want to hold off on Gears (assuming thats even in their interest) to give DQ3 more time to shine or vice versa since DQ is Square's cash cow.
A full on 3D remake for Xenogears would be the most ambitious decision but would take the most amount of time.
So Xenogears remake is still more likely than a XCX port but the question is how they would remake it.
An HD 2D remake of gears would be the most likely but I'm not sure if I would prefer it to a full on 3D remake.
@iLikeUrAttitude I'd love to Xenoblade X but I think a full port of the game with maybe some added content could take as much time as making the next mainline (or spin-off) Xenoblade game.
We could get a Nopon spin-off where it's a dungeon crawler (but not like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon) where you hunt for treasure and food crystals (idk) and fight an evil bat overlord.
@Kermit1 Yeah thats why I said it's the least likely between the two.
I'd rather have a spinoff with anything but the Nopon, they're the least interesting characters in each respective game and for X's case the most hated.
For me personally I constantly think of a turn based Xenoblade game being a neat idea instead of the 50th warriors game that everyone asks for.
@Eagly It would be cool if Tiger Tiger was uploaded as a "free" game on the NSO.
I think Xenoblade Chronicles X will come first, but only on the next Nintendo plattform. Maybe after they create a Sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X? I don't think anymore Xeno related Stuff is gonna come to the Switch, except for the DLC of course.
Since i have already played Gears but not X, that would be my preference as well. Though a Xenogears Remake would be huge!
@Solaine I could see a sequel to X being a strong possibility. Monolith Soft has mentioned that X3 is the end of that story arc, but hinted that the DLC will give hints to what will be next. And whatever that ends of being...it'll probably involve mechs in some way, shape, or form. Aside from his wife, Gundam is the center of Tetsuya Takahashi's universe.
Which one has Kos-Mos, Xenosaga? If so that's the one (series) I'd rather see instead.
1. I'd love to play XCX, but after 3 (or 4 depending on how you count Torna) Xenoblade games on Switch, I'd be happy to take a break from the franchise for 3 years or until the Switch successor releases, whichever is longer.
2. A very shallow reason, but I find it hard to get into JRPGs made before the PS2/GCN era, where they could finally properly display normally proportioned characters (like in Kingdom Hearts or FFX). The sprite based or chibi character designs of previous era JRPGs are hard (though not impossible) for me to get into, so probably no Xenogears for me
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I'll have a Xenogears, the 3 Xenosagas & Xenoblade X, please ... I seem to remember reading XG was supposed to be the 5th of 6 episodes, so should we hope they'll do the rest of those, too?
I've never played either, but I gotta go with Xenoblade. The gameplay really intrigued me when it released and I'm not even a Xenoblade fan. I was really tempted to buy a Wii-U specifically for this game and the Zelda HD remasters at the time.
Tl;dr it's mostly okay (the only thing I really enjoyed was flying around in the Skell) until it's ruined by an absolutely atrocious endgame grind. To OP's point: Xenogears Remastered for sure, but if they do the 2D HD gimmick I would prefer to have a toggle switch for it.
There's man all over for you, blaming on his boots the faults of his feet.
