C'mon when's it coming Nintendo, you know I'm starting to believe that this won't be a 2025 release at all despite all the promises that have been given, and some others now I come to think of it, I didn't watch the latest direct as I didn't believe it was mostly going to contain anything relevant to me but no first party at all! when the hell are we going to see them then, don't tell me we're going to have to wait another 2 plus years before Nintendo finally gets it's s*** together and brings out some new games.
The lack of a release date or general update about the game definitely makes it seem like somethings off. I could see getting a Nintendo Today notification with the release date now in August, but if we don't hear any news until September I'm assuming we won't get to play the game until 2026.
Don't forget that regarding the 2017 fall/holiday lineup, the only Switch release dates we knew at this point in this point in time were Pokken DX (September) and Mario Odyssey (October) which got their release dates in June. FE Warriors was given its October release date at Gamescom (August) and XC2 was given its December release date in the September general Direct. There's still plenty of time for Prime 4's release date to be announced, at current I think early August Prime 4 Direct/Nintendo Today drop for late September release.
@stephalear Age of Imprisonment is the game scheduled for this winter, Prime 4 is still "2025".
As of right now, I still think it can make 2025, but if it doesn't get a release date by the end of September, it's probably been pushed to 2026.

Well, let's think rationally. We have 5 months left in 2025. Metroid certainly has its fans, but it's nowhere near Nintendo's biggest franchise, so the typical 3-5 month hype lead up that they do for Mario and Zelda games isn't necessary here (plus there's been enough internet "hype" for the last million years lol).
The other rational thing to look at is Nintendo rarely delays high-profile releases once they've been shown in playable form. Again, though Metroid isn't a cash cow franchise, it's still a high-profile release and IP for them. If they felt the game wasn't ready, they wouldn't have been showing it so much in the Switch 2 reveal and least of all letting people actually play it at the Switch 2 experience events. When they do announce delays, history shows that they do it pretty early: Tears was delayed pretty much a year out, and Mario Maker was 6ish months out. I'm not a total stickler for "history" because we've seen them break lots of that, especially in the last couple years, but for them to announce a delay on Prime 4 at this point would be pretty weird regardless. But IF it would happen, I would expect to hear it certainly before the end of August.
All that said, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that we get a release date for it in the big September Direct, and that it's an actual holiday title - literally coming out in November or December. I think this is especially true if Age of Imprisonment is a Winter 2026 title. 2-3 months of hype time from release date to actual launch for a Metroid title is plenty.
I feel sorry for all the people who apparently have no memory of anything or else they would know that Nintendo will casually announce major things a couple of months before release.
Showing more gameplay or announcing a release date doesn't make a game come out faster. They literally just reiterated that Prime 4 is coming in 2025 in their financial report on Friday. Nintendo hasn't had any significant delays in recent times (at least as far as I can remember, correct me if I'm wrong), unless you want to count Advance Wars which was a finished game by the time it got delayed.
There’s nothing in this thread that couldn’t exist in one of the other Metroid 4 thread that are already around and are active plus the thread has an air of self entitlement so I review this thread as 3/10.

I give it +1 point for a funny title
I gave it a -1 as they couldn’t think of a clever replacement for a swear word to get around the filter. It would have been +2 if the replacement for the swear word was a witty NIntendo pun.

Yeah I strongly suspect it's delayed to 2026. This has been a long awaited sequel to a niche franchise that hasn't historically sold super well and they've barely showed us anything. If they're serious about changing Metroid's fortunes they can't just come out with a blowout a month before release or something, that works for IPs that are already household names like Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and DK (yes DK has been in a bit of a slump too, but DK is still one of the most recognizable Nintendo characters ever), but Metroid doesn't have the clout to get away with that. I suspect at this point they ran into an issue and it's too late to market it for the holiday season now so it's being delayed. Maaaybe if we get a dedicated Prime 4 Direct or a Nintendo Today announcement sometime in the next few weeks they could squeeze it in, but the odds of that are low at this point and I think Occam's Razor just says it's been delayed.
@Bolt_Strike Considering Nintendo doubled down on 2025 to their investors 3 days ago, 2026 seems unlikely. If they weren't sure they could have been vague about the year like they were with the Warriors game.
