@Misima The gifts are the only reason why I was able to get characters to ranks that let me recruit them, so they're not useless. You are literally playing the game wrong.

The game is built to where you aren't meant to switch routes from the initial start. You're moreso meant to do a single route and then play the others afterwards because the stuff you unlock in the first route makes the other three go by much faster.

I doubt you'll see this, given I'm pretty sure you blocked everyone calling you out- but dude, please learn how to play this game and stop complaining about things that you have no idea about.

Also, anyone else reading this- please don't replicate anything Mishima is doing. If he gives you advice, ignore it. He constantly gets things wrong and acts like he's right.

Theodora is way more interesting than I thought she was gonna be. I really, really like her plot line. It's obviously not something that's never been done before, but I think it's brutally awesome.

(Just gotta say - some of you complaining about being blocked is pretty funny given your own reputations for blocking anyone who ticks you off.)

@rallydefault Thought it was a nice touch that she has such a different arrival into Dagsion in that even despite arriving in that grand procession and seemingly wanted there by the powers that be, the regular person in Dagsion doesn't respect her position at all, and treats her like filth cause of the wider tensions between Saramis and the places around it.

Also to that other person 100 hours into a game that has been out not even a full week is so utterly insane, no wonder you're fatigued. You gotta be playing like 15+ hours a day. Like do you just wake up, play the game until sundown, eat and go to bed and do it again?

I started Leda's story this morning and played for a couple hours. I've only had two real combat encounters but I really like her playstyle and that she can buff the other characters around her. I'm really excited to see what other buffs and supporting options she'll unlock going forward. Having gotten up to chapter six in Dietrich's story, it was a nice little surprise to find out that Mikaela is Mu's mother. I'm looking forward to seeing more interesting relationships and connections like that.

I'm hoping to sink a lot more hours into the game throughout the next few days and over the weekend.

@Pizzamorg He really must've been playing every hour of every day to be 100 hours into the game already. I genuinely don't get why he's creating this misery for himself and acting like it's the game's fault.

Did my first actual main games match on Leda's path. No spoilers, but really fascinated to see how this plays on the other route this crosses over, as the scripted mechanics of the fight are "everything goes against you and goes horribly wrong" and I sorta can't imagine it says that way when you're playing on the other side or you'll just blow through this?

df says fortune's weave runs internally at 720p, upscaled to 1440p docked.

...seriously what happens at intelligent systems that the remake of ttyd pretty consistently looks and runs fairly well even on switch 1, but a game that only looks a bit better than the average switch 1 game struggles to hit 1080p?

very confused by the people like "it looks amazing" like they didn't just sniff way better looking games within the past few months. then again, i guess a lot of people bought a switch 2 solely for fire emblem...

@squiddu-real Here's the thing.

Intelligent Systems have never been known for their graphical fidelity. Like, ever. They can make good looking games in their own respects but graphics are always a lower priority for them. If you are trying to compare Fortune's Weave with other games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Mario Kart World, yes, you're going to be disappointed.

But For Intelligent Systems? For Fire Emblem especially? This title is nothing short of a generational leap for them. It looks absolutely phenomenal, especially compared to Three Houses where its game engine is held together by scotch tape and prayers.

Before this video came out, I've seen people swear up and down that this was a native 4K game. I myself, thought it might be between 1080p and 1440p. And well, I was kind of right, it's just not native. Which is fine, because I honestly can't even tell that it's upscaled. Compared to say, Pragmata or FFVII Rebirth which can look soft at times, this game always looks sharp to my eyes. I don't even see artifacting in the capes like Digital Foundry claims. It is a masterful upscale technique.

Is 30 fps a bit of a bummer? Sure. But at least it's locked and it's not like an SRPG needs to be 60 fps anyway. I am very happy with the way this game performs and for once, Digital Foundry isn't really swaying that opinion by actually revealing the numbers. it is a genuinely good looking game for the series.

Late

@VoidofLight What I was referring to with "assuming I'll ever get that far" was more so the length of the game. I tend to take things pretty slow. I'm the kind of player who reads every dialogue box even on repeat playthroughs when I know the game inside out.

Fortune's Weave has perfect stopping points at the end of each route for taking a break from the game without the worry of not knowing what you were doing once you come back, just as long as you do come back. I'm not bothered about not seeing a game to the end, I care more about if I'm having fun, and I can see myself choosing another completely new experience over playing yet another storyline in this one.

@squiddu-real I haven't had issues with resolution. Looks sharp to me. Frame rate is stable too. Environments and character animations could look nicer though.

Check out my Gaming Nonograms thread here on Nintendo Life if you are into Picross or other similar games.

squiddu-real

that's the thing, it's a bunch of "compared to"
i was never asking it to look crazy detailed or anything, it just seems so strange to be stuck where it is with graphics that really are not all that impressive outside of the character models.

i can also say first-hand that saying it's super sharp is more of an experience thing. there's a definite fuzz depending on the scene when you move the camera around, probably because the upscaler is working with something so low rez.

Misima

@TerribleTerabytes But honestly, there's no reason why this game is running so poorly. It's just poor optimization.

The graphics are pretty jarring to me, but I have always said that's the least important thing. I think 3H looked fine and this one looks okay but is more lively. Now, I hope this game does business enough to smooth out the rough edges. But I have to say again 30 fps doesn't bother me. I just wish the resolution was better.

But I could tell something was very weird with the textures. I said this game looks like a PS2 game at times but not blurry. It's definitely because they're using upscaling.

It's just weird that Nintendo can do Banaza and FE:FW and they can be so radically different. It's 1st v 2nd party game, yes... But they lend resources with other games like that.

I think the way this game looks is proof they're not confident in Fire Emblem at all.

Misima

TerribleTerabytes

@Misima I love how you say it runs poorly and yet, 30fps doesnt bother you? But the resolution does despite it being 1440p in the final image? But Three Houses looks fine??? I honestly don't understand your logic.

not that at all, i just think intsys operates differently and nintendo doesn't feel the need to check on them. nothing is as horrible as pokemon scarlet/violet was on switch 1, it's just running internally at a low resolution.

@TerribleTerabytes "running poorly" is not exclusive to framerate. considering what the switch 2 is clearly capable of, it looking like this but still internally being so low res could be considered "running poorly" for the hardware.

there's a difference between upscaling from 720p > 1440p and native 1440p. you don't notice it on other first party games because it's already using a fairly decent base with 1080p > 1440p instead. you can notice it on fortune's weave.

@squiddu-real I personally don't notice the upscaling in this game to begin with. Like seriously, not at all. I actually thought it was native until Digital Foundry found otherwise. I game on a 1440p 240hz HDR gaming monitor connected to my Gaming PC. I have played games of high fidelity on my PC. I have absolutely no issue with how this game looks or runs, aside from the slight disappointment of 30fps.

One gripe that has deffo grown with time for me in this game is the odd placement of calendar events, you'll have 150 days of free time, absolutely nothing is happening for 149 days of those, except for 13 days into it, where the one qualifier takes place you can watch, but with every side quest placed in such a way that its almost impossible to make it to even one of them, and come back again, within those 13 days.

So you either risk missing the qualifier (and also wasting turns trying to get back in time) or just waste the first x days of your free time doing auto activities until you hit the date of the qualifier and you're in town so you can just run over to it.

And I know I defended the calendar on the other page, and I still stand by most of what I said in always having more than enough time each cycle to do side content, recruit, level up, whatever but it is just these specific missable events that are infuriatingly and unnecessarily difficult to ever actually catch, this is exactly the kind of "player choice" illusion Three Houses uses and it sucks every time.

Okay, in Leda's story, still quite early on, I just did the battle against Olympia and having to light the braziers. That was very enjoyable! I liked that a lot!

@Pizzamorg I was wondering why I can never spectate but hadn’t bothered looking into it, they should patch it to be a first or close to last day event, I have had a buffer of days at end of each chapter so far, the simplest explanation is they wanted the player to be under “turn pressure” and worry about running out of turns which I hate - it’s hard to get it right - Into the Breach has it and it’s not the end of the world cause a match takes ten minutes but here it’s a much higher investment of time. Gloomhaven is a game with this sort of turn pressure but after the intro scenarios you have to get each round almost perfect which is not fun to me.
