Pokemon is great. Mainly for the creatures themselves. It may be weird but I get really attached to my teams when I start a new Pokemon game. Battle competitively is really fun too. Competitive or just for fun the battles can get really intense and a win is just so so satisfying and fun.
Well giving away free pokemon to people that attend a event while others didn't go there and payed the same price as the ones who went...thats a bit of a rip off so that's when I stopped.
No, both payed the same price for what they got. The only difference is that the people who went to the event put time into their day to go to it. They still bought the exact same game as you.
In Black and White, 4 Pokemon (yes, 4) were given away at gamestop. Mathmatically speaking, that is barely more than half a percent of the amout of pokemon in the game, and you'd never use them anyway. Please explain how that is a rip-off.
Having them makes the game feel more complete because thats the purpose, gotta catch em all

No offense but I find keeping yourself from playing a game you would otherwise enjoy because of DLC silly. How many games have exclusive day-one DLC now a days? A lot, which means going by your logic you would be missing a ton of games. At least now you don't need to go to NYC just for one little pokemon, or how about Celebi being unobtainable outside Japan(not counting glitches).
I guess theres just so much to see and do, and no game has yet to fully replicate it successfully. I would say Heart Gold/Soul Silver would be a good starting point being remakes of what many consider the definitive games of the series.
I've only ever played the games, so I can't comment on the other Pokemon stuff, but I find them to be incredibly addictive. I've always enjoyed RPGs, and the Pokemon games are designed well enough that you always feel like you're making progress.
On top of that, the games are deceptively deep, and although I've never gotten into competitive battling, there is a lot of strategy involved both in team formulation and battling itself. That sort of depth appeals to a lot of people.
I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.
I first started playing Pokemon when I got My Pokemon Ranch.Since I didn't have Diamond or Pearl to transfer pokemon to the game,I got Diamond.Though,I used to hate Pokemon, mainly because of the series. Now,I'm a fan.
Currently playing:A little bit of everything :D
Fan of:Adventure Time,The Legend of Korra,The Amazing World of Gumball,Regular Show,Futurama, and gaming on handhelds, consoles, and the PC.

The fact that there was DLC wasn't his issue; it was that he couldn't obtain it.
Still, choosing not to get a game for that reason seems silly to me. I understand not liking it because of the gameplay, or the horrible story, and stuff like that, but because one can't access a few minute things is kind of rediculous. It'd be like choosing not to buy a Mario game because there is one level that you can't get access to that others can. And that's if that Mario game is 3 times as big as any games prior in order to get the ratio right. You just aren't missing much.
Best thread ever

@Morphtroid Wow, that blew my mind. Does Unova fit with New York in the same way?
also, the thing I enjoyed the most about Pokemon, and the reason gen 3 is my favourite, is that you get to explore the world the developers created for you and discover everything the games had to offer. Highlights include stepping in to Fortree and Sootopolis for the first time, exploring the Abandoned Ship, diving underwater for buried treasure, and finding a Chimecho at the top of Mt. Pyre after like 3 hours of running in circles (and being subsequently disappointed to find out that it sucked). It's just an epic experience.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
The games are heavily japanese. Kanto alone is a real place in Japan.
The map itself is quite japanese too:
Yep that's what I was talking about I remember reading about Kanto back in 6th grade and was shocked, but it wasn't until a few years ago I learned about the others it was an awesom geography lesson for me

Also, Saffron City is pretty much the most important city in Kanto, GoldenRod City is the most important city of Johto.
They fit with the real life locations of Tokyo and Kyoto respectively.
They even have their own Mt Fuji in the middle of them (Mt Silver).
Pretty much, every town and city and mountain in pre-V pokemon has a real life equivalent in Japan.
