@Apportal@Xyphon22 I never played NSMB Wii, so it had to be the DS NSMB. I have only played and finished NSMB and NSMB 2 so I know it's not the Wii version.

@Tasuki So I had to go look it up after all of this, and it is definitely the Wii version. The DS one has you fighting Bowser and Bowser Jr. at the same time and just ends normally. When you hit the switch, the bridge collapses and they fall, and that's it. Nothing after that except the credits. Maybe you saw a video of it if you've never played the Wii version?
I think this just highlights how bland and copy-and-paste the NSMB games are. Wait, that should probably go in the unpopular opinions thread.
Anyway, I remember loving the final boss of The Last Story. It was really challenging, but so satisfying to finally beat. I think I was just too underlevelled, in retrospect.
Finally unlocking the final boss in the original Ape Escape will also always be a highlight of mine. I adored the game to pieces, and the one-on-one with Specter at the end felt like the perfect final battle, even if it is a bit easy.

Two of mine have already been mentioned, both from the 16-bit era.
Super Metroid - this end sequence is fantastic. Starting out as a redo of the classic Metroid final battle, then the next sequence and even has an emotional turn of events, all without any words or text. It's not just the boss that makes this end battle, but the entire sequence.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Like the aforementioned, it's an entire sequence of events that makes this great and also without a single word or text. The foreshadowing from Lava Reef & Hidden Palace, the sense of urgency in the chase and then the continuing efforts of Robotnik with multiple phases desperately trying to keep the Master Emerald (of course the best payoff to this hinges on having all the Super Emeralds).
Does (safer-) sephiroth count .... ? Technically, of course, you kill him in an impossible to lose scripted fight after that battle but that's usually treated like the 'final' one
I’ll throw in Octopath Traveler - the real final boss, as opposed to any of the eight bosses at the end of the chapter fours. It’s a brilliant fight which ties together all of your various abilities and tactics picked up throughout the game.
Final boss in Hollow Knight is also pretty epic. Probably enjoyed beating Knightmare King Grimm more, but The Radiance is still very, very cool.
el-mega-mondo in battletoads on the gameboy. he was'nt to difficult to beat but the whole game was rock hard to finish so i was very happy when i found out he was easy to beat..
1. I love the final boss in Castlevania Portrait of Ruin - Both Dracula and Death join powers throughout the whole encounter! It was epic and unique for the whole series!
2. Clive Barker's Undying - final boss was cool and scary. Really good finale for the game!
3. Half-Life 2 - The final sequence and the explosion at the top of the Citadel was amazing. Especially seeing it for the first time.
4. Sanitarium - The last "Chess" game was very neat and then you realize the whole plot of the game. The best Point and Click adventure EVER CREATED for me! (yes even better than Monkey Island)
Yoshi's Island has an amazing final boss. Marked the first time Bowser became huge (even to the point of his castle crumbling down), and man, does he not screw around. A tough fight for sure, but it felt good beating him for the first time way back then. Oh, and we get this SWEET rock tune during the battle.
I'm surprised Splatoon wasn't mentioned, everyone loved the DJ Oct fight at the time.
Ganondorf from Wind Waker with the water crashing down looked fantastic.
Master Hand from Smash was a boss that always stuck in my mind, maybe it's because it was an early game memory that it stuck but Master Hand wasn't like the other fighters so he really stood out and you're fighting the hand that controls you. It has become over played since the N64 days tho.
Along with Ocarina of Time, Pokémon Black/White has the best final boss fight I’ve ever played. Everything, from the music, to the setting, to the feeling that you alone truly are the only hope for the region against the evil team, the sinking feeling when you realize how everything was planned carefully (which makes the villain all the more dangerous), when you realize how cruelly N was manipulated, the final fight with N and how he has a legendary to match yours, the battle against Ghetsis, the end with N’s farewell, and even the end credits music. It was all done amazingly well.
