I saw this when they first posted it-and it's things like this that make me partially sold on Project Cafe when I don't really know anything about it. Just have to wait for E3 to hear all the real details I suppose.
If someone like IGN can actually build the Wii's successor... it's pretty dang unimpressive. Nintendo can do so much better than some half-bit gaming site. When E3 comes... and probably even more so when E3 2012 rolls along, I'm predicting (and hoping) we'll see SO much more than anything IGN thinks they can top.

I think you missed the point of the video entirely and just wanted to bash IGN. They didn't "build the Wii's successor", they used available technology comparable to the rumored specs of Nintendo's new console to give a benchmark on how it would run and handle the most graphically intense games like Crysis 2 compared to the competition. They didn't want to "top" anything, they just did an experiment focusing on the rumored graphical power of the system, which is all they (or anyone else) could do at this time.
nintendo will do a lot more than just add graphics which is pretty much all they did. nintendo will upgrade the graphics but then add some new twist that nobody has even thought of before.
If Nintendo's new console will actually be able to run Crysis 2 in 1080p I'll be happy, well they should have no exuse to not to now. If IGN's custom made system some how ends up being more powerful then the "Cafe", well, that would be downright pathetic on Nintendo's part.

I still think it's stronger than that- especially after AMD confirmed that their AMD Trinity card is ready to launch in fall 2012 and that it will be used for a system set to release next year.
I know it'll be exponentially more than what the Wii's at (which'll be a huuuuge jump for me since I don't own a PS3 or 360), but it's still going to be similar to last-gen systems by the time the next-gen comes around — again. This is kinda making me wonder about how Nintendo's super-easy porting idea is gonna work out after the first year or two. It'll either mean a very short console life or the Wii all over again.
But I'm not sure if games can look 'any' better than what they look now. I remember things going around about PS3 games looking better than 360 games and all that but that didn't stop the 360 from being on top. Who knows, it may be the same case for this next console in which Micro's and Sony's may have a bit of a significant bump from their 360 and PS3 but Nintendo's successor will still be on par with their new systems anyhow.
At the end of the day- it comes down to how the developers utilize the power of the system. Mario Galaxy 2 looks mighty impressive and that game isn't even HD.

I did seem to sound a bit like that, didn't I? My apologies. My point was not as much to bash IGN (though I'm no huge fan of theirs in most cases) but to say that I think it's a little pretentious to put together something that you're claiming runs approximately as well as a non-existent console from a company who is known for nothing if not surprises. That video may show what the graphical capabilities really are... or it may be way off. But even if it's spot on, I'm well convinced that the graphics boost is going to be the least thing the new system has going for it, and ultimately showing graphics like that really does nothing of any merit. I imagine most PS360 fans who have been dissing Nintendo already will be unimpressed by that, as the visuals are only marginally better than the current generation HD consoles, something the new Xbox and PlayStation are sure to surpass. And Nintendo fans by and large are not as concerned with graphics as there are other aspects of gaming, and thus do not care. The whole thing struck me as pointless and irrelevant and IGN showing off even though they had no hard facts to show off really because they had nothing better to do. I suppose anyone with the resources would have done the same thing, so it's nothing expressly against IGN. It's just that it came across to me as rather inane and stupid and early. It probably would have meant more to me had they waited until they could find out for sure what the exact pieces inside the machine were, and then built with those... but even that wouldn't be quite the same, so I'd still care little. But we need no negativity around here, so with that, I'll take my leave.
I'm really excited for this console as long as Nintendo doesn't rely only better graphics for the games on this console. Nintendo has always brought out great gameplay, more so than what I've seen out of Sony or Microsoft (they do have some, not just bashing-and I do speak from experience) and I want those great graphics along with what carried Nintendo even when they were behind in the graphics market.
