Nearly every morning I'll pop on YouTube, and NL(To a lesser extent) as I'm sipping down my morning Whey protein fruit Cacao Smoothie, going to town on my laptop, and checking out all of the stuff that's currently happening in the gaming world, including etsy, ebay, whatever etc, and film to a lesser extent.
It's tradition and almost ceramonial at this point. Has been since my mid to late 20's. Yet my NL days are waning a little, more so with the main articles themselves and even having the urge to engage with the community on there. Too many attention seekers, one off conversations that dissolve into one or two sentence replies, topped with a handful of trolls. They really need to disable the thumbs up & thumbs down feature. It should be about conversations, not a popularity contest, which nudges people to shoot for top comment. It's like there's your validation, i hope you sleep better at night. And in this day and age, there's a lot of people typing from a smart phone, which is another cumbersome barrier that often dissolves into short replies or comments vs a laptop or desktop PC and a keyboard/mouse, which was the way we all mostly comunicated online in the late 2000's.
You would of felt right at home on this site back in around 2010 - 2013. It was a retro haven, and it was when the DSLIte, Wii + Virtual Console, & Launch 3DS(Before the Dark days of the Wii U set in, during about 2014) were all the craze and the retro forum was thriving with people who grew up during the 80's & 90's. Posting retro purchases beyond the 16 bit generation or anything from the 'late' 90's(This also includes toys & boardgames) was practically forbidden. Unlike now, where people are posting 'their latest' GameCube purchase. Retro forum activity is like one comment a week if you're lucky. It's cooked.
But it's nothing like what it was before, including the forum traffic which feels well over 10x less active, the retro forum is dead like i said before and I'm seeing a slight pattern of those shutting down or undermining others opinions if they don't allign with their own. Some people just want everybody else to think how they think(I can be guilty of this at times myself), and hop aboard the Switch 2 Hype-ride express in order to fuel their love for the hobbie. I for one value honesty, not toxic positivity or negativity. Just call it like it is and how you truly feel about it. Besides, if we all thought the same and voiced the same opinions on said game and console than engaging with others would eventually get boring and tiresome after a while. It would quicky transition into a hive mind. lol
And ya, Retrobird is good stuff. He's pretty underrated in the YT gaming scene. I still follow HappyConsoleGamer, sometimes I'll tune every now and then to IGN YT specifically for Nintendo Voice Chat, maybe MyLifeInGaming, MyRetroLife, ConsoleWars(etc) I don't mess with channels like GT85, Beate em ups, Subro Nation and other click bait channels that cator to the younger scene. But ya, if you tally up and subscribe to a bunch of NS1/2 related news YT channels, or others that cover PlayStation, VR, whatever you into you'll get all the variety and content you need with a far bigger community, but that's also a double edge sword because you can easily get lost in shuffle, since it's essentially one big gargantuan cesspool.
