I'm on Chapter 6 and the only time I've used Bravely Second so far is the tutorial quest that makes you do it. It's a completely superfluous mechanic that doesn't even really need to be there.

I doubt anyone does. At least I hope not. If people did, that would encourage Square Enix to do that again. But my fears are most likely unfounded, as nobody does that.

Yes, it was a bad idea, but not because it doesn't belong. Fire Emblem did DLC the best way, but then it fits the game. The SP things you can just let the unit sleep for a long time to get back, and they SP don't really help that much later in the game so there is no incentive or good reason to buy any of them.
What they should have done, DLC costumes. That would have been cool, and I would have spent money on them.
