007 First Light on Switch 2 has been delayed until next year, developer IO Interactive has announced.
Posting to the game's official X account, the port - originally scheduled for summer 2026 - will now release in March 2027, with the "additional time" to help with "polishing the... performance of the game".
Here's the statement in full:
Today we would like to provide an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 release of 007 First Light.
We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond's reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.
We were thrilled by the positive feedback on 007 First Light at gamescom, and it's a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch. The same demo will be playable at Tokyo Game Show this week, so please join us there if you would like a hands-on experience.
We will share further updates as soon as we are ready. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.
As mentioned in the statement, 007 First Light was recently playable at gamescom, where our video producer Alex recorded some over-the-shoulder footage and came away "feeling impressed".
With news of the delay, are you happy to continue waiting for the Switch 2 edition, or are you considering playing on another platform instead? Let us know in the comments.

Yeah I was kinda concerned considering it was just labeled "2026" in the recent Direct with no date when the year is almost over. Given that there's a double whammy of Call of Duty in October and GTA in November, pushing it back to 2027 was the right call.
Just hope it runs well.
By the time it releases, people would have moved on. There’ll be no hype for it a year after all other platforms received it.
@FragRed
Cyberpunk 2077, Digimon Story Time Stranger, and Elden Ring launched on Switch 2 way later than other platforms yet people love them and they're selling well.
If the game is good, people will buy it.
I whis they would release this on a normal cartridge...
So many great games wasted as digital only.
@JR150
I think that's a timing thing.
When you release something several years later people start having nostalgia about it. New gamers came in which haven't played those games.
But after about 1 year this effect isn't happening.
@FragRed for those who only own a Switch 2, they'll be patient
Or if they're weirdos like me, they'll get it on Switch 2 even tho they have it on more powerful hardware lol
@jojobar
Digimon on Switch 2 was almost year after the other platforms (October 2025 vs July 2026). It still sold well. 007 will be fine.
I'd rather they push it back and release it when it's ready instead of release a bad version now.
I think this game will sell well when it releases next year. Game Key Cards are a good thing, as we are getting more games because of it.
I feel my jaw and fist tightening...
... just kidding.
sigh it's gonna be a long wait to play this one on Switch 2. Oh well, at least I have Ocarina of Time and Metroid Ravenous to look forward to until First Light is ready.
@Sambuc Thank you, yes.
Disappointing but that's OK. The next 6 months looked stacked for me anyway.
Fire Emblem, Resi 2-4, OoT, Metaphor, Metroid...
Just get it out before persona 4 revival and Final Fantasy vii-3 please!
@FragRed not the case for me. I’m waiting patiently.
Unfortunately by time this comes out there will be much better options. I understand delaying to improve but at least give something to tide over like a demo that is playable.
In other news and off topic I've had to click off an ad five different times popping up over my comment while I'm typing this and my thumb clicks the ad and it takes me off site ... what is going on with this place? I understand you need to make Revenue but this is insane
Just request help from Nintendo, IOI. And take your time to get there! I will buy it once it’s ready.
As long as it's not a game key card it will sell well no matter when it gets released
Okay. So Ocarina of Time in november, Metroid Ravenous in January, 007 in March, Kirby in May (properly).
I am all good.
@JR150 yeah this really, its a shame its taking longer but GTA and OOT is the rest of the year filled out. If I have room for anything else there's plenty to chose from!
Wasn't in a rush to play this anyway, we already have Goldeneye on Switch.
Ouch, there goes my Xmas playthrough. Then again, I'll take a delay 100% of the time over a rushed and broken release.
Do you remember the agony of having to wait [X months] after the initial scheduled launch date of your Zelda BOTW/TOTK, Metroid Prime or Elden Ring?
Neither do I. Because the games are awesome.
Then again, there's plenty of buggy or boring games out there that met their deadline. No one remembers them either. So kudos to IO Interactive for making the right move.
Realistically, it's fine. Honestly, there's so much to play these days and my backlog is already huge. I wouldn't have time to play it anyway before sometime during Q2 2027.
Better late than never (I'm looking at you, Borderlands 4). And seeing how good Elden Ring's port was, I prefer much more if they take their time with it.
Good choice, imo.
Like luckily most here I don't mind delays if they mean games being better from the get-go and I hope this will also help considering that there are so many games coming out these months (doubt March will be as busy) - absolutely looking forward to First Light whenever it comes to Switch 2!
That kind of delay flies for a critically acclaimed game like Elden Ring.
First Light I'm not sure that many people will see much interest to it when it shows up almost a year after its initial release.
@FragRed I can play it on my gaming setup for maybe 2 hours total across an entire month or I can wait for it to release on the Switch 2 and enjoy much more playtime because I can play anywhere
It’s a lovely game albeit a touch short. Hopefully some dlc chapters and better bonuses are en route.
Phew, that’s a huge relief. My wallet and schedule are already completely maxed out, even without a 007 release this year. It gives me time to clear my backlog and play the other essentials in the meantime. Fingers crossed the same thing happens with The Duskbloods.
Bummer but actually good to know, I'm certain this will improve the final experience. My gaming schedule too is packed until the end of the year, so I don't mind this!
I gave up waiting ages ago and bought it on my Series X. To be honest, I didn't think it was that great. I love the Hitman games IO released, but this was just a little too formulaic and linear for me.
I know they’re an independent studio, but nearly a year from the original launch? Yikes.
Surprised? No
@Red_Silurian it is a GKC.
More Like 007 LAST Light amirite?!?!?
@KritterXD or weirdos like me who have a PS5, but try to shy away from Sony these days.
I still haven't bought this game, but will buy it for PC soon so i can play it with Path Tracing on my RTX 5070 TI.
This is so getting cancelled!!!!
I think you’re joking This will be released for sure.
Slightly disappointed here since waiting until after summer felt almost like launch day with just a slight delay, but a full year behind makes it a new purchase decision at that time if that makes sense. My hype will have died out.
Ah, who am I kidding, I’ll still buy it haha. I need my Bond fix
Not mad at this. Elden Ring really benefitted from a good delay.
@KritterXD
Fellow weirdo, here! I have a PS5 that hasn't been touched in months. Even if that means muddier, jankier experiences at times, the Switch 1/2 is always my go to. 🤪
Seems they are having quite some problems getting it to run well... then again, recent impressions were that it had already much improved. Maybe it's rather that they don't want to drown in the Ocarina of GTA double hype.
Anyway, I'll be there when it releases. That demo gameplay where you had to infiltrate that upperclass party looked super fun, almost like the stealth segments in early 3D Zelda games.
I had it preordered as a GKC. Even after the first delay i left the preorder open. But now i dont trust them anymore. Either i will get the game at a deep discount on pc at some time, or the version on switch 2 runs well and i get it after launch or i wont play it. Either way i will be fine
do you really think Nintendo wont have anything for february? It is winter and people play more during winter capcom will just do discounts and suddenly the competiton is as fierce
I had this on my Christmas wishlist, so it's kind of a shame. Shall I go with Starfox or Echoes of Wisdom instead?
I think this is a blessing in disguise.
Of course i feel sorry for those who were really looking forward to this game, but the next few months are absolutely stacked with releases.
Also - I'd personally prefer to incur a longer wait, and let the devs really fine-tune the optimization for the best experience possible (vs releasing an absolute dumpster fire of a game)
The devs are maybe also a bit more comfortable in taking extra time, considering the juggernauts of Ocarina, GTA incoming..
Better to delay this one. Didnt like what i saw at the direct.
You've eluded me again, Bond.
