Update: This demo for Klonoa's latest release has now been made available on the Switch eShop here in the west. Enjoy!
Original article: Klonoa returns next month in Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series, a collection of the two mainline Klonoa console games, and to prepare eager fans for the return of the Dream Traveller, a demo has been released in Japan today!
We say today, but it's sort of tomorrow. The demo is available there because it's 23rd June. so, at the time of this posting, check your eShop to see if the demo is live! Or, if you've got a Japanese eShop account, you can head on over there and download it from here right now.
The demo will allow you to play through Vision 1-1 and 1-2 of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (the first two stages) as well as fight the boss Rongo Lango, and the second level of Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil — La-Lakoosha ~Sacred Grounds~. And you won't be able to transfer your data to the main game, but all of these levels are relatively short and are just there to give you a good idea of how the game plays.
We did double-check this before posting, but the demo is currently not on the North American or European eShop. In fact, in the UK at least, Klonoa doesn't even have a game page! But the NA eShop listing is right here if you want to sit and click refresh over and over!
We'll update this article as soon as the demo goes live in other territories — assuming it does!

I do have a Japanese Nintendo account 😏
I too have a Japanese Nintendo account- though I think for the moment I'll wait for an overseas one anyway. If that doesn't come by the time this game rolls around I can always try the Japanese one after all.
Please let this come overseas, I've never played Klonoa before and would love to see whether or not I'd enjoy the general gameplay before fully comitting to a purchase.
Eh I can wait. Glad they made a demo though.
The Demo is Multilingual so I would say that it is a pretty safe bet that it will come to US and EU eshop sooner or later.
Also, creating a JPN account ain't that hard either
Great a reason to use to my Japanese Account that I only bought one game on again.
@Fizza Put it this way if you like the classic Sonic games I think you'll enjoy Klonoa.
Why do they call levels in klonoa “visions”?
Also why is the first game called door to phantomile?
Other that please let this demo get released in the us.
Update: it’s in the west now WAHOO!!!
@RubyCarbuncle Ooh, I did like Sonic 2 when I played it on NSO, that does entice me a fair bit.
@Fizza Just make a Japanese eShop account, then you can download the demo
I love platformers so will definitely be giving it a go
So is the physical not coming to the north American market? I guess I'll have to import this game too
I'd set my second account to japan if it didn't flood my switch news with japanese news tiles. I can wait for the demo to come to NA region.
@Fizza
this is one of those games that for some reason, if you like the way it looks, i cant imagine you wont like how it plays. assuming it plays as well as the old ones.
I want it! Actually I'm pretty much definitely buying it so I don't really need the demo. I'm looking forward to the actual game though.
At-least they're actually "trying" with the advertising this time around even if the demo is still just over in Japan rn.
So, I'm running out of money to spend on gaming and for now will have to choose between Klonoa and Sonic Origins... (sighs) Decisions, decisions...
@tonyp1987 No physical for North America, sadly.
@EVIL-C I guess I'm importing it
@tonyp1987 Yeah. 😔 That's what I settled on myself.
@EVIL-C I got alot of imports already lol like the final fantasy x/x2 on one cartridge & final fantasy 7&8 on one cartridge lol
@tonyp1987 Same here, I just like local releases whenever possible. 😅
Does anyone know if the demo is coming to North America?
@Would_you_kindly This game is amazing if you're into platformers. Definitely worth checking out. Very underrated gem.
This series must not sell well in North America.. which is unfortunate. We keep getting the shaft on this game.
"We can dream" ? Who doesn't have a Japanese account? Or one for every region for that matter.
These 2 games are literally 2 of the greatest platformers ever made. Go buy this everyone! Let’s hope if the sales are good enough to influence them to create a brand new Klonoa game in the future.
