It feels like a distant age that King's Bounty II was announced for Switch as part of a Nintendo Direct back in March 2020. It's a sequel from an early '90s classic, a brand that older turn-based fantasy gamers may know well.
A new trailer has now confirmed that it'll arrive on the eShop and at retail on 24th August, so it won't be long until we can finally jump in.
Below is some blurb from the official website.
King’s Bounty II is the long-awaited sequel to the legendary King’s Bounty video games franchise, one of the most iconic representatives of the turn-based RPG genre. Expanding on this legacy with an entirely new epic story, fractions, enemies, and new features to forge an open and breaking fantasy world Antara. With the kingdoms in disarray, counties demanding independence, bandits prowl the roads, all the overseas nations have denied the King’s authority over them, and blighted creatures lie in wait for the unwary, new accidental heroes emerge as a last hope.

They are determined to bring order to the chaos. Play as one of them, recruiting, developing, and commanding your personal army on a non-linear adventure of betrayal, sacrifice, and survival. Fighting for your own future, outsmarting enemy in uniquely turn-based combat, making difficult decisions, and experience the intensity of one of the classic sagas in an exciting new way.
As a retail release it'll have multiple editions that you can see here, and on the eShop pre-orders (it's a full priced $59.99USD game) get extra bits and bobs that'll cost $5.99 separately post-launch.
- Hounds of War Warhorse: A unique creature, your best friend… and a real horror for your enemies.
- Elite Guard premium pack: Unlock special skins for your army!
- Flaming Eagles: This unique a red-hot living creature using his claws, beak, and special skills.
- Firehand Golems: Firehand Golems is an experimental version of the Sentry Golem with flamethrowers.

There's also a 'Lord's Edition' at $64.99USD, with that relevant DLC being sold for $5.99 separately.
- Rod of Deception

- Staff of Harmony
- Tyrant's Sword
- Armor of the Hollow

this looks really cool. Never heard of the IP before
Weird ... I had those editions available for pre-order for 2 weeks now.
I hope that the full game is on the cart tough!
It’s been a while so I forget, but is King’s Bounty in any way connected to the King’s Field games?
@BloodNinja oh no. The original King's Bounty was the precursor to a different famous series - Heroes of Might and Magic was its remake/sequel.
Then 1C bought the rights to the IP a decade or so ago and has been churning out new games in the series ever since. But this game is touted as a "true" sequel, so we'll see.
@Noelemahc Oh interesting! Never knew Heroes and this were connected. Must have missed the memo. Thanks!
With HoMM all but dead it's about time King's Bounty stepped up its game.
@SmaggTheSmug To be fair the Russian guys developing Horn of the Abyss expansion and now working no yet another expansion it is not dead.
Also HoMM3 has a strong multiplayer community with tournaments on HotA template maps.
Even if Ubisoft do not want to do anything with the franchise other than stupid mobile/browser games the fans will keep it alive. Same thing with the Castlevania community
I still have Kings Bounty on the Megadrive. It’s crap, but i actually like it, and the repetitive music
@Zuljaras I am well aware of the thriving HoMM3 community, I am Slavic as well. But it's not the same as a new game in the series.
On that note a bunch of Russians are also making a new Master of Magic and that has me hooked as well.
@Gerald it's not crap! It's fun and more difficult than the DOS version because of the difference in enemy movement, but it's still fundamentally the same genre-starting classic!
@SmaggTheSmug links or it didn't happen. You can't just tell me a new Master of Magic is happening and not lead me to it by hand.
@SmaggTheSmug Nice! Every time I hear someone is Polish I think of GOG. Best damn PC DRM-free platform in the world.
Yes! When it comes to sub 20USD, of course!!!
Great game on PC. A wet dream playing it on the Switch!
Day 1.
It's been in the Eshop's 'Coming Soon' section since it was announced 14 months ago.
I love the previous King's Bounty games, so I'm looking forward to playing this. Hopefully it's a decent port.
Will buy this on launch 😊 Offers something different, and first one was good 😊
I have it in preorder in physical. We, Russians, sure love our turn-based strategy games)

I've been seeing Day One release but the NA has nothing related to Day One release. Anyone seen this for NA? No CE for NA now? So if no Amazon UK then it's only JPN Amazon to get the CE now? I did get a copy from Amazon Spain....for what it's worth. I did find a copy of CE from Amazon FR and placed a order there.
I thought it already had a date a while back? I'm not really interested in this game, but have noticed that this was on eshop as TBA for an eternity or something.
@Noelemahc no offence intended Squire. A poorly worded comment on my side.
Most of my mates at the time were puzzled as to why I used to play it so much because they all thought it was crap.
I really enjoyed the game on the Megadrive, and world buy the original on the Switch in a heartbeat if it was re-released
